I'm jealous that the beavers are so close to you. I've had a family of beavers living 300 feet behind my house, while I can pet them they are not as close to me as yours are to you and I understand why. I feel incredibly fortunate to be as friendly with the beavers as I am and visit them every day to get them treats of branches and apples. I even chop a hole in the ice every day here in the mountains of Vermont so they can get their treats and I can enjoy their company.

@@Blackadder75 Yes they do sleep throughout the day and night. They do wake to eat, groom and play and if it warms up and their is no snow they will wander around a little. I have lots of videos of the beavers on my youtube channel: william donley.

Given that you are in Vermont (I was there briefly several decades ago, back when my Junior High Concert Band in western Washington State that I was a member of stopped there on our way to participate an invitational competition in Ottawa, Ontario) and I don't yet know all of the beavers' specific food preferences, perhaps I can ask a question? Since many of them seem to enjoy various fruits/produce as snacks, have they ever gone after the sugar maple trees there, or is that a species that they're not particularly fond of? From what I understand through various other videos, they seem to like the softwood varieties more, even for the bark and cambium layers - so perhaps that's not a problem that I may have initially thought it could be.

@@ModMokkaMatti While they eat some wood what they are going after is the bark and cambium layers, that's nutritionally good for them. They do "eat" sugar maples though only go after red maples as a last resort because they don't have nutritional value other tree species have. They eat most everything growing around them, from ferns, to grasses and asters. This past fall I found a bunch of aster flower heads in a pile by the pond, they eat the plant but not the flower heads.

The one thing that has never disappointed me, after everything else has on the planet.....animals. animal videos. Animals at home, when I'm out hiking. I've nearly lost my mind with political figures and social movements predicated on victimization. Everything gets exposed as nefarious. Not with beavers. I myself am a rodent enthusiast. So cute.
