It's funny that over 23 years ago, I cried to Mary to help me , nothing happened . Later on, in another desperate plea, I cried out to Jesus, and he heard my voice and saved me. Only one savior, no other under heaven. Bless you, Jesus ❤

@@foodforthought8308 Please consider this; The beauty and glory of God is belittled by the veneration of Mary above others. She is now compared to the Arc of the Covenant. She was honored by May processions and as a sinless being and as one who could sway Jesus to do what you want Him to do. Therefore it was effective to pray to her first. But that contradicts God's plan. Note: "Even so we, when we were children, were in bondage under the elements of the world: But when the fulness of time was come, God sent forth his Son, made of a woman, made under the law, To redeem them that are under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." Galatians 4:3-5. If Mary was not like us, could she be used to give flesh to Jesus. What good would it do? She could not represent us. Did you know that there are three other women if faith listed by name in the generation of Jesus; Thamar (Tamar from Hebrew), Rachab (Rahab).and Ruth. Luke 1. Because she consented, as a woman of faith, she was used mightily. Certainly she knew the blessedness but also the cost. The world would judge her a fallen woman, with child, before she was married Joseph also would possibly be looked upon as someone who made Mary with child before he took her as his wife. Does the world forgive? "Jesus said unto them, Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one father, even God." John 8:41. Because Mary was a great woman of faith she was chosen, in spite of her low estate, to give flesh to Jesus. "And Mary said, My soul doth magnify the Lord, And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour. For he hath regarded the low estate of his handmaiden; for, behold, from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed." Luke 1: 46-48. Thank you Lord Jesus that God's plan is for His glory and our good! "And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba Father. Wherefore thou art no more a servant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir of God through Christ. Howbeit then, when ye knew not God, ye did service unto them which by nature are no gods. But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye unto the weak and beggerly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?" Galatians 4:6-9.

Divorcing Mary from Jesus is just nonsenical. It's like saying, 'I love my wife's face, but I don't care about her hand.' Jesus is the Head from which everything flows and which commands everything. But Mary is the caressing hand.

ByDesign Yes, grace was imputed to you by divine design. Think about the human relationship between mother and son. The son will do whatever is in his power to please his mother. The same and more so, between Jesus and Mary. Remember the wedding feast at Cana. Jesus before His time of earthly ministry acceded to His mother's desire. We do not know the .mystery of God; His ways are beyond our understanding. Prayer is not a transaction. It is better to consider that we implore Christ to walk beside us in our suffering.

I really appreciated how knowledgeable he is on this subject as well as how respectful he is to Catholics in how he communicates. On the issue of Mary, I have always thought of that passage in the NT when a woman cries out something like - blessed is the one who gave birth to you and the breasts that nursed you! And Jesus corrects her for exalting Mary. He says blessed rather are those that hear God's word and do it. How can they exalt Mary above other believers when Jesus seemed to be saying not to do that?
@alhilford2345
@alhilford2345 Жыл бұрын
But Our Lord Jesus is not correcting the woman who calls out, nor is He demeaning His mother. He is adding to her praise! Who is the first Christian? Who heard the Word of God, kept it and submitted to it throughout her whole life? Mary, His mother. She said, "Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done unto me according to Thy will." Jesus wants us to hear His word and respond with our whole being just as Mary did, "...Thy will be done..." We have been given the opportunity to be BLESSED! We can be like His mother.

Yes Jesus seemed to correct Mary... But seeming is not always real/true. Have you come across any God's chosen human being whom he used as use and throw objects once His purpose have been served?
@katherinebare8212
@katherinebare8212 Жыл бұрын
Whoa! That's very extreme. Correcting Mary once or twice does not equal using her and throwing her away. Jonah was also God's chosen prophet, and he had to be chastised and punished repeatedly. Was God just using him? When Moses struck the rock instead of speaking to it, the Lord rebuked him. In fact, out of the many godly people that God chose and used throughout history, I can't think of anyone who never doubted or needed correction. The burden of proof is on you to explain why Mary is the one exception to this pattern. I think it brings even greater glory to God that He was able to use an imperfect human for the most important and miraculous event in human history because of her faith. Just like Mary, we are imperfect but we are called to faith and God promises to honor that faith and use us to do his work in spite of our flaws. Praise God!

He didn't correct her for exalting Mary. He explained that spiritual ties go beyond the flesh and matter, as in the natural relationship between family members who are literally your 'flesh and blood', but for the Kingdom of God and spiritual matters it's a matter of the heart/soul. So that's how we can also be God's adopted sons and daughters. And Mary was btw the most exemplifying it! She was 'full of grace', and listened to the Word of God most attentively out if all creation. So if to apply Jesus' words, it still would apply to her just as much! Because no one has ever listened God's word as much as her. So no, Jesus didn't correct the woman for exalting Mary, he corrected the woman for paying attention to familial/biological ties only, but pointed out to the importance of the spiritual and the heart submitted to God in spirit. Which is also a great hope for any of us, because that's the door through which we get to have the relationship with God as well.

The canon of Scripture was determined in the late Fourth Century at Church councils. This list included the Deutercanonicals and more chapters in Daniel and Esther. Martin Luther removed them and the King James Bible originally included them but they were later removed. I think some bibles contained them but did not treat them as canonical. Catholic Bibles still have the compete canon and most Protestant Bibles have the shorter version.

@@teresaemmerth5625 Like the first person said, it's pretty complicated. I don't think chapters were removed from Daniel and Esther. What can happen is when the Catholics translate the OT from the Greek Septuagint, there is a difference in the ordering of the manuscripts and sometimes the chapters. Protestant bibles are translated from the original Hebrew, in an attempt for more accuracy. The Hebrew books can be organized somewhat differently. All the text is there, but it may flow into another book, or the chapters may end in a different spot. When I tried to look up a verse a Catholic had quoted from his bible, I initially couldn't find it in the scripture address he gave. It was still in my bible, just in a bit of a different address. This can come from translating from different original source material.

@@cindiloowhoo1166 What do you think would a more accurate translation? Something that is translated from Hebrew to Latin, and then translated again from the Latin into whatever language we are reading the bible in, which for us is English. Or to translate straight from the original language, Hebrew, into our common language? Do I need proof that one would be more accurate, or doesn't common sense just show this to be the case.

@@teresaemmerth5625Luther did not remove them. He reordered them and called them Apocrypha (hidden) which they were never hidden . After Luther they were removed. They show the need for works is problematic for Faith alone doctrine. Luther actually added the word alone to the scripture in the German Bible. He also said he wished he could throw James in the see. Because James justifies many Catholic teachings Luther didn't like.

The Nicene Creed is said at every Mass and the Bible is read at every Mass the first reading normally Old Testament then the Psalms are song then the second reading always from the acts of the apostles from the New Testament then the gospel with John or Mathew or Luke or mark is read at every mass the Nicene Creed states what Catholics believe that includes that Jesus died for our sin read please see We believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made. For us men and “For Our Salvation” he came down from heaven, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suffered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets. I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.

I’ve never understood this sentiment. You heard the gospel. You weren’t listening. If you grew up actually PRACTICING Catholicism you def heard the gospel. It’s all in the Mass, including a gospel reading and preaching on the gospel reading every Mass. It’s in the creed professed at every Mass. You hear of His sacrifice and His words “this is my body, given up for you,” and receive that if you’re in a position to receive the Eucharist. You hear every Mass is a celebration of His life, death, and RESURRECTION SUNDAY. I’m glad lad you now have a relationship with our Lord if you didn’t before. I mean that truly and deeply. But of course the Catholic Church teaches the message of salvation. Kinda have been for 2k years.

@@GratiaPrima_ maybe I wasn't taught correctly? I had 2 aunts who were nuns and an uncle who was a priest. My mom was also an ex nun. I was told from a young age that if I missed church I would go to hell. I was told if I committed a mortal sin, such as premarital sex and didn't make it to confession and died I would go to hell. I asked her why I had to go to confession if God hears our prayers and she told me that's just the way it is. I was unable to understand that all we needed to receive salvation was to accept Jesus as savior and repent of our sins. I believe it's possible to be saved as a Catholic but my family unfortunately still thinks they have to do certain things to earn God's favor. All our righteous acts are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6). And just to be honest, I don't know many people who claim to be practicing Catholic who live any differently than moral atheists.

As a former Roman Catholic myself, I can say that most Catholics do not even know the doctrine that Catholicism as a whole teaches. Most times when I ask my catholic friends why they believe what they believe, the number one answer is, “well I was raised Catholic”, or that’s what my parents are so therefore that’s the tradition I hold “. For some, its mostly out of ignorance and pure tradition. Aside from the missal in the church pew, sadly a large portion of Catholics have never even opened their bibles for themselves to read any scripture. 😢 I once took a class on the 4 pillars of the catechism of the Catholic Church to learn more and the bishop actually told everyone that purgatory was not real 😮 and that it was man made. He talked about the history and the corruption in the early church too. 🤯 I leaned enough to know that was the end of my Catholic journey. Now I’m a Born again Christian and I have a relationship with Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior , that is all ! 🙏🙏🙏

I use to be a Catholic. My whole family I grew up with, (10 of us; 8 kids) were all Catholics; “staunch” Catholics! So it was major for most of us to come out of it. When Catholics ask me why i left, I tell them that I’ve seen way too much scripture showing the opposite of what Catholics teach. I either follow Catholicism or the Bible, and I must do the latter. It’s really impossible to follow both. Once I went to a hospital to pray with someone and met up with a priest, and subsequently ended up in a debate about purgatory. I was a young Christian and somehow thought I could convince him (this priest) that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord. So there is no such place, praise God!!! As a kid, Catholicism taught me that purgatory was a place where we would go to suffer for our sins for a time frame (could even be up to 2000 years) and if or when we are purified enough we can then be taken to heaven. You use the Holy Bible to try to prove that God is wrong. Preposterous! Don't you know that the Bible is a Catholic book! It proves God right! You'll never convince an educated Catholic that the purgative state does not exist, although usually may fool those who, like yourself, are foolish enough to think that their actions don't have repercussions. There is no verse that says to be absent with the body is the same thing as to be present with the Lord. The verse I think you’re confused about is 2 Corinthians 5:8 which states, “Yes, we do have confidence, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord.” Saying it is a better thing to be in heaven after you die than alive is not the same thing as saying every single person who dies is instantly in Heaven. FYI the very next verse the Protestant false doctrine of Sola Fide is refuted: “Wherefore we labour, that, whether present or absent, we may be accepted of him. 10 For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.” 2 Corinthians 5:9-10 KJV I’m not sure what other things you thought the Bible taught differently from Catholicism but reply with what you think it might be as you might have just been uneducated on the matter.

I Am Present in My Church, through My Body, the Most Holy Eucharist. My enemies will always target the Most Holy Eucharist, as It is not merely a symbol of My Love, My Promise to redeem the world - It is My Body. It lives and breathes, for It is I, Jesus Christ, Who dwells in It. I will remain Present within the Holy Eucharist until close to the end, but My Church will never die. My Word was made Flesh and through My Flesh, you, God’s children, will remain close to Me. When My enemies attacked My Church in the past, My Church united and fought against Its opponents. But when My Church is attacked, by the spirit of evil from within, It will face very few obstacles from a secular world. Satan does not attack his own work. As the Son of man, I will never desert My Church, for It is impenetrable against the devil. My followers will remain true to My Church up to the last day. However, the number of people who will not understand the attacks, which My Church will come under, from within, will be high. They will, for the most part, be content with the many adaptations to be introduced in the Holy Sacraments and the Laws of God. They will swallow the lie that modern life calls for a modern church; that people today need to be able to make choices, based on their own free will - irrespective as to whether or not they insult God. Then when they insult God and commit blasphemy, when they desecrate the Holy Eucharist, they will no longer be part of My Church. My Church will remain intact. My Church will stay standing, because of those who will remain true to the Word of God - the Word, which became Flesh. For you cannot divorce My Church from the Word - the Flesh - because then It cannot Exist. I promised that I would protect My Church against the gates of Hell and I do this now by preparing My loyal sacred servants to stand by Me and to remain true and steadfast until the Great Day. I never break My Promise. Your Jesus

Paul teaches that we should not judge how we worship, but to not make one stumble in the faith! If it’s Jesus we proclaim we can’t be wrong! No saint died for you. 417 Many Popes have been prisoners in the Holy See, surrounded by Masonic groups Monday, May 7th, 2012 @ 18:19 My dearly beloved daughter, to My churches through the world I say this: Know that I will always be with you at your side, as long as you proclaim My Most Holy Word. To My Catholic Church, even though you caused torment as a result of evil sin, know that I will never forsake you, although you have sinned. But know this. Your faith in Me, is not as strong as it should be. You do not love Me, as you once did. All the wealth you accumulated, put a distance between Me, your Christ and Saviour and God’s ordinary children. You scaled such lofty heights, that I could not reach up to you and offer you My Hand to salvage you from the rot within your core. You were taught the Truth by My Peter, upon whose Rock you were built. And what did you do? You built thick stone walls around you. This caused a lack of communication with those whom you needed to feed with My Body and Blood, so that their souls could be nourished. The respect required of you in administering My Most Holy Eucharist, was lost, when you demeaned My Presence. When Vatican II declared new rules, they were introduced, by those evil Masonic forces, from within your corridors. They cunningly presented new ways to administer My Holy Eucharist, which are insulting to Me. Your so-called tolerant teachings proclaimed a series of lies, including the refusal to acknowledge the power of Saint Michael the Archangel. He is the protector of the Church against Satan. Those forces among you knew this. This is why you stopped all prayers, requesting his help, before Me at Mass. Then you perpetrated the biggest untruth, that Hell was not to be feared. That it was just a metaphor. For this lie, accepted as the Truth by many of God’s children, has meant the loss of billions of souls. How you offend Me. For those humble and sacred servants among you, I ask that you go back to My Teachings. Never allow riches to accumulate amongst you and think that they are acceptable in My Eyes. Riches, gold and power accumulated in My Name, will be your downfall. You cannot profit from My Holy Word. You have suffered because of the way you have offended Me. Never think that I Am blaming the many holy popes who have sat in the Seat of Peter. Their Mission has always been protected. Many popes have been prisoners in the Holy See, surrounded by Masonic groups, who do not represent God. They hate God and have spent fifty years spreading untruths, about the Mercy of God. Their works have led to the collapse of the Catholic Church. This was not an accident. It was deliberately and cunningly plotted in order to destroy the faith of the Church, to destroy the homage of ordinary Catholics, to the One True God. For this, you will now be cast aside into the wilderness. After Pope Benedict, you will be led by Me, from the Heavens. Oh how you have made Me weep. I call on all of My sacred servants, who know the Truth, to stand up and follow Me, your Jesus, to spread the Truth of My Teachings in humble servitude. You must find the courage and the strength to rise from the ashes. Above all, reject the lies, which will shortly be presented to you by the false prophet. He will merge the Catholic Church with other churches, including pagan churches, to become one abomination, a one world church without a soul. Your Jesus

Your interview with Dr Ortland was very respectful and gentle but my disappointment is that we should working on being more united in our love for Jesus as our savior. There are many different Protestant denominations with a lot of differences in their biblical interpretations (I have several family members as an example), so I do wonder why you have only chosen to point out things you see as problematic with Catholicism and not other Protestant denominations. I have many Protestant friends and loved ones and I am grateful that we all share our love for Jesus. I also have many friends and loved ones that are not believers and that breaks my heart. If anybody wants the truth about the Catholic Church watch Trent Horn , or Father Mike Schmitz , or Bishop Barron , X Catholics are the most uneducated about Catholics because of being poorly taught for 35 years after Vatican 2 there was miscommunication after Vatican 2 , how do I know this , I use to be one of them I was a part of the poorly Catholic educated we were not taught about the faith or the Bible but then I took the time to read the Bible and the catechism hand and hand and realize they match up with no errors , As Trent Horn would say a X Catholic does not understand Catholic language, Baptisms and Confirmation is when Catholics are born into Christ and confirm to follow Jesus, Catholics are saved grace by the Blood of Jesus on the cross he paid for our sins NO we’re in the catechism does it say Catholics are saved by works. , X Catholics only had bad teachings one day a week even Catholic schools were bad , if someone wants Catholic truth they need to listen to Trent Horn or Bishop Barron or Father Mike today Catholics have Bible studies and better education , I’m not here to have people switch churches but i will state inaccurate Catholic statements (like we’re not Christians) we are., I’m saved by Jesus blood on the cross and we by communion is Holy because of this verse John 6:54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise them up at the last day. , Catholics follow the Nicene Creed Baptism John 3:5 - “Unless a man be born again of water and the Holy Ghost, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.” Matthew 28:19 - “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit” Confirmation Luke 24:49 - “But stay you in the city of Jerusalem till you be endued with power from on high.” The Eucharist John 6:54 - “Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you shall not have life in you.” Sacrament of Penance [Confession] Psalm 41:4 - “Heal, O Lord, my soul, for I have sinned against Thee.” John 20:22-23 - “And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.’” Anointing of the Sick [Extrem Unction] James 5:14-15 - “Is any man sick among you? Let him bring in the priests of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith shall save the sick man, and the Lord shall raise him up, and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him.” Matrimony Matthew 19:4-6 - “Haven’t you read,” he replied, “that at the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female,’ and said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh’? So they are no longer two, but one flesh. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Holy Orders Matthew 10:1 - Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness. John 20:22-23 - “And with that he breathed on them and said, ‘Receive the Holy Spirit. If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.’”

Becket-- I so appreciate your content and your testimony. Praise be to God. I was raised as a Protestant and converted to Catholicism as an adult. It changed my life. My mom also converted to Catholicism and it changed her life. The depth, the fullness of the truth, the beauty and universality of the Church, the sacramental life, the rich philosophical history. There is so much to love. And even the authority and hierarchy of the Church gives me great comfort. Instead of church-hopping (as we often did growing up), I can trust that Christ knew exactly what he was doing when he gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Did you watch? What do you have to say about the doctrines that contradict GOD's Word? Will you devote yourself to the Word of God or to man-made doctrine? The part about the Pope's infallibility was INVENTED late in the 'game', does that not disturb you? What about all the titles for Jesus being added & given to Mary? Those go against the very truth of God's word & the Trinity!! There is ONE mediator between God & man, not an additional. 🙏🙏
@Audrey-uz7ex
@Audrey-uz7ex Жыл бұрын
@@Julia29853 @ybh8ful I watched the entire thing. It is difficult to address every topic in one comment but I’ll do my best. I accept every dogma and teaching of the Church and have no problem doing so. I encourage you to look into Dr. Scott Hahn (a Protestant pastor who converted), Trent Horn, and Catholic Answers. The primary issue would be to look at papal infallibility. If you understand that Christ instituted a hierarchical church at the moment he gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven, then the rest more easily falls into place. That passage is directly in Scripture. Christ told Peter (in Greek “Petros,” which means rock): “On this rock (Petros) I will build my church” and gave Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Peter’s supremacy and authority begins right in Scripture. The fact that the structure of the Church evolved in the coming years does not disprove the authority of Peter’s seat. Wouldn’t we expect the structure of the Church to change when it went from being persecuted to becoming socially accepted and celebrated? It is hardly a manmade doctrine when it comes from the lips of Christ himself. This brings me to sola scriptura. There can be many different interpretations of Scripture, and some of those interpretations have significant consequences. For example, my quotation of Matthew 16 above. (Or even as relevant to the culture wars and many “progressive” Protestant churches - Romans 1:26, etc.) So then what exactly is the infallible word when you can interpret it so many ways? Two people could hold conflicting views of the infallible word. To be clear, Scripture is a central part of the faith (I read the Bible every single morning) and it is infallible, but I know how to interpret certain passages because of the Church’s magisterium. I also would ask you to consider: what did the early church do before the canon of Scripture was solidified in the 300s? Without Scripture for 300 years, wouldn’t the early Church need some doctrine or something to hold it together? That would be tradition (see 2 Thes 2:15). And as Gavin alluded to, there are some doctrines that Protestants accept (such as the Trinity - or even “sola scriptura” itself) that are not explicitly in Scripture. So wouldn’t that be a “manmade doctrine”? Isn’t sola scriptura itself a “manmade doctrine”? As for Mary, much of what was discussed was the alleged excessive adoration of Mary in the Middle Ages. I am no historian, so I can’t comment on that. Sure, if one believes that Mary is actually on equal footing to any person of the Trinity himself, then that individual has a disordered view of Mary. But that singular person’s view wouldn’t disprove the Catholic faith. And that is not what the Church teaches. I also have not met one single person with this view of Mary. Mary as “mother of God” (which Gavin did not push back on) symbolizes the ark of the New Covenant. I am also not sure what you mean by “titles for Jesus” being given to Mary. If we know Mary is in heaven, why not ask for her intercession? If there is only one mediator between God & man, then wouldn’t it be wrong to ask a friend to pray for you? Of course, Christ is supreme and he is sufficient. But if one desires to ask for Mary’s intercession, then I see no wrong in that. And if you don’t want to, then don’t. I’d also like to note that Becket mentioned at the beginning that we want an “always evolving church.” But then much of the discussion was aimed at pointing out how some Church teaching began in more rudimentary forms, and then developed and crystalized over time. To me that is a perfect example of an evolving church. Christ guides the Church through the Holy Spirit. Not every single teaching of the Church was solidified on the day after the Resurrection. Some things took time to fully understand. The difference is that I have reassurance that the Church’s teaching is true because it is willed by Christ, as opposed to one pastor’s personal view. And moving to the eucharist, as Gavin mentioned, early Christians throughout the vast majority of Church history saw the eucharist as the literal body and blood of Christ. It was entirely uncontroversial. And Christ makes this truth very clear in John 6. I encourage you to look deeper into that and read the Early Church Fathers. Gavin said that Catholics don’t really “say much” about transubstantiation or its purpose. But the Church most certainly does. Receiving Christ himself (as he asks us to do) is a sacrament and gives us grace as we commune with him. It strengthens our walk in faith and holds us accountable to our sins (one may not receive our Lord in a state of mortal sin). And for that reason, we must attend Mass every single Sunday. It is not optional. There is more to say, but I’ll leave it there.

I used to be catholic. I came from a long line of catholics. I used to believe in mary as my intercessor , Oh, how the Bible changed my mind on that. My mom did not force to go to church but I did do the communion and I got to for a while. I hated it. I liked to hang with other children my age but I hated going to catholic church. I knew God was real since I was a child, I knew someone way higher and bigger than me was upthere in the sky. Nobody fed force any of this, I just knew. Later on I was sent to cathechism and stuff but I never felt God there, it was just rituals and latin being spoken. I heard the gospel at 13 when I was sent for one summer to a different part of my country. It was a baptist church. The seed was planted and it wasn't until I turned around 36 that I turned to Christ. I can say now most of my moms family follows the Lord Jesus and have left the catholic church. Still praying for a few. My dad side of the family, also praying for them. I would say , now I only follow Jesus, I don't call myself of any religion. I just decided to not put a religion name on it. When people ask me what religion I am I say of no religion but I believe every Word of the BIble and serve Jesus only. I repented of my involvement with catholicism , it just something the Holy Spirit had me do. If people would look to just Jesus not to tradition of men. Christ is coming for His Church and it is not Catholics, protestans, baptist etc is the born again people that keep His commandments and worship Him in spirit and truth. The catholic tradition tho teaches a lot of lies, but people choose to believe a lie rather than the truth. From the inception of the catholic church , it was plague with lies, avarice, and evil popes. Do the research and its available to anyone now a days, like I said, some people cant let go of tradition and prefer to continue to be blind and bound. You can't serve Jesus and mary . The devil uses that lie about mary to keep people bound and blind. She was His earhtly mother but in no way she should pray to and no one should be praying to her cause she didn't die for your sins. None of the apostle worshipped her. I mean, the Word of God is pretty clear. I once witness to a catholic lady using her own Bible, her catholic BIble. She was amazed but still bound in the tradition tho she knows the truth now. SHe had thousands of question and i was able to show her with her Bible the answer to her questions. I keep praying for her. We are still good friends. I hope and pray I see her in the New Jerusalem .

Ask any Catholics why August 15 is so significant. So read with humility 518 This is My Book. My Word. My Promise. Wednesday, August 15th, 2012 @ 01:00 Video Message My dearly beloved daughter I speak with you of this, the most important day, the day which I chose to launch My Book for the world. This is the day of the Assumption of My Beloved Mother, Queen of the Heavens, Queen of the Earth, Mother of Salvation. It is no coincidence that the Book of Truth is being made available on this date for My Mother is the Mother of Salvation. The Book is to help salvage the souls of the whole of humanity. My Mother plays an important role in the salvation of souls. She is the Co-Redemptrix, Mediatrix of Grace and Advocate. This means that My Blessed Mother has been chosen by God to help Me, her Son, in the final plan of salvation. Her role in this significant period of time is not understood. She gave birth to the Redeemer of Mankind and brought into the world the Gift of Salvation because of her acceptance to become My Mother. She is the Mother of all God’s children now and she has been given the power to crush Satan as I prepare to salvage the human race from his wicked plan to deceive God’s children. The Book of Truth is not merely a book. It is My Holy Word, the first part of many revelations, to convert the world. While it may have seemed very difficult to produce, with so many obstacles placed before you My daughter this work is, I assure you, protected from Heaven. This is My Book. My Word. My Promise. When I said I would come again I meant that I would come again. Just as I came into the world the first time, God My Eternal Father prepared His children, in advance, through the prophets. Many listened. Many did not. Either way the world did not fail, afterwards, to understand the Truth. They knew and understood the meaning of My Passion on the Cross and the freedom it gave the world to be given the Gift of eternal salvation. The same is happening now. The world is being prepared for My Second Coming. Now. The Holy Word of God is being given to mankind, through these Messages, as a great Gift. Many will listen. Many will not. One thing is clear. Very few will not know about it. They will either accept My Word as it is being given to them now or they won’t. I have fulfilled the promise of My Father. My Father promised the world they would be given the Book of Truth at this time. Many will digest the Truth and accept it. Others will find the Truth too bitter to taste and will deem it to be lies. Let them know that the Covenant will be fulfilled as will these prophecies. No man, no matter how he argues against My Holy Word, will prevent the Truth being from being revealed to the world. The prophecies contained in the Book of Revelations are unfolding before your eyes. No man understands the full meaning of the Book of Revelation for its contents were not revealed to the world clearly as they were only guidelines. Now that I, the Lamb of God, come as promised to open the Seals few will accept this. Why? If you believe in Me, in these Messages, why do you deny the Truth when it is being given to you? Failure to accept the Truth given to you about the False Prophet, the antichrist and other prophecies will mean that you will not allow Me to instruct you in the salvation of souls. Only by following the Truth can you be safe. Remember that only the Truth will free you from the lies, which infest mankind through Satan. You must continually call on My Mother to help bring you to Me so that you are protected from the lies, which Satan will use to block you from the Truth of My final Holy Words given to the world before My Second Coming. Go in peace and love. I unite you all in the protection of My Precious Blood at this time. I rejoice at your response, My beloved disciples and I rely on your faith to help Me in this special mission. Your Jesus

I was born and raised in a Catholic country: France. It’s Catholic by tradition, even surnamed “the big sister of Rome”. As a child, I attended the mass. Although I believed in God, the mass was creepy, never ever heard a message on true biblical salvation. At the age of 30, I heard the real gospel for the first time, through an Aussie friend. Fast forward, I became a believer in Jesus Christ myself. The real faith in the gospel was so different than the Catholic doctrine. So I prayed….asked the Lord which was His true church. Oh boy……did He answer my prayer! It went from the RCC has some “errors” to …it’s straight out Babylon! To my Catholic friends I will say, don’t listen to the pope but read your Bible instead! The book of Acts tell us what the true church is.

It's not needed, Jonathan. God (and therefore His PERFECT Word) is the ULTIMATE AUTHORITY over true Christians. By simply comparing the RCC's traditions/practices/teachings with the 66 Books of the Bible, discerning Christians can clearly see that the RCC is led by the father of lies. It's a waste of time listening to those who defend this falsehood using their twisted interpretations of the Bible.

The devil masquerades as an angel of light, so we shouldn't be surprised at all by the Aztec pictograph of Mary (Virgin of Guadalupe). Pharaoh's magicians had power from the devil to turn their staffs into serpents and the water into blood, and to produce frogs (Exodus 7-8). Also, Revelation 13 tells us about the miracles the two beasts will perform because the dragon (Satan) will give them his power. By these signs they "deceive those who dwell on earth" so that they worship the beast (and Satan who is behind it all). This has been Satan's purpose all along: to divert our worship away from God and to be worshipped himself. He even tempted Jesus Christ to worship him! Christianity was accepted easily in Mexico as a result of the virgin's apparition, and many turned from pagan worship. However, Mexicans do not worship Jesus alone; they worship Mary, too, but in Isaiah 42:8 the LORD says: "my glory I give to no other, nor my praise to carved idols". Catholics will be quick to say that they do not “worship” but “venerate” her. Whatever they choose to call it, Mary is clearly honored on par with, or even more than, the Lord Jesus. I am a witness to this.

No they already had a mother of the God's and they just believed Mary was the same person. They even called Mary the exact same name. They also believed Jesus was their god because their god was a snake hanging on a cross. Study please and believe the Gospel. Only Jesus can pay for your sins and if you're not trusting Him alone then you're going to hell. I love you and it takes love to tell you the Truth (Ephesians 4:14-15) The Lord Jesus Christ died for your sins, was buried and rose from the dead on the 3rd day according to the scriptures (The Gospel 1 Corinthians 15:1-4). If you believe in your heart that God rose Jesus Christ from the dead and confess with your mouth Jesus Christ is The Lord you will be saved (Romans 10) Go to a quiet place and ask the Lord to save you and forgive you from your sins - Believe on Jesus Christ and call out to Him before it's too late

Great video, so helpful. I come from a Catholic background , so I found it VERY helpful historically to find out where and when all these doctrines came from. I like the non judgemental, level headed way Gavin approaches these 'dogmas'. He tells and explains these beliefs exactly as the Catholics explain them too, so we can’t say he lies, distorts or exagerates. Believing in Sola Scriptura now, I agree with him and do not believe in those dogmas, (for 40 years now!). I like the way at the end of the video how he speaks about the sacraments. How the Protestants could and should use, practise, and revise them, going back to the sources. Because there are things missing too in the protestant services. Thank you both, may the Lord bless and use your ministries. Oh by the way, I have noticed how, in the Catholic Church in France at least, which is where I see it happen if I go 'home', how Mary has taken a more and more prominent place in the last 25 years at least. The Marial devotion, (culte, as it is called there, meaning great devotion) has more than doubled. I would say a hundred fold increase. When I was a child in the 60s, in Brittany in the little city where we went on holiday, the procession to Mary on 15th august comprised of about 100 to 150 people maximum. In the 80s it disappeared completely for years . Gradually in the last few years, if I am on holiday there on that date, it has became huge. When I last saw it, the procession lasted more than 10 to15 minutes, with hundreds and hundreds of people singing ave Maria while walking six or seven abreast. Incredible. I reckon it restarted with pope John Paul II , the Polish pope. Every mass ends with the prayer to Mary. That’s in france, I haven’t checked any other country.

Hi 😊 great you have so much interest in Christianity! In our Biblestudy we are studying The Actes of the Apostels … here we see how the “good news” of Gods grace came to the people (s) - fulfilment of Gods promise to Abraham : “in you all people of the earth will be blessed” But then…the church became a tyrannical system …. Why….the Reformation??? Luther was a “Catholic”…. he only wanted to reform the church….not start “something new”…. But the Pope tried to kill him… as he was hidden on Wartburg….he translated the Bible ❣️and as Guttenberg had invented the press….the word of God came to the people and….transformed the West! I’ ve grown up in a protestant “Kanton” have now been living for over 40 years in a catholic “Kanton”…. I’m so often terribly burdened….Catholicism is still what it was…. a religion …so much superstition….so much cult for the Saints… People don’t know the Bible, and mostly don’t know the Gospel who was the centre of the apostles message and of the reformation!!! During the Reformation, in Geneva every family had refugees…. From where… Africa? No, from France and England …. 800 pastors from England fled to Switzerland/Geneva….300 stayed and were all murderd by the Catholic Church …. As John Mc Arthur points out., 6 millions were killed by the Jesuites…. Why, because they were in possession of a bible, or because they believed to be saved by grace…. I personally have encountered a terrible suffering ….it was then when I realised…. “Catholicism has never changed”…. The Catholics too….became free by the Reformation….! LETS STUDY THE BIBLE AND BRING THE GOOD NEWS OF GODS GRACE…to the people! The time is very short….we live in very evil days…”the system of the beast” (complete control) is preparing behind our backs… so we have to know God through his word… we might fail….otherwise… You feel my suffering for my fellow “man” here …in this very Catholic region….n’est ce pas …?😅 God bless you 🦋

I did not see the entire title when I hit play and I thought you were maybe going to discuss the beauty of the Catholic Church. When I discovered it was not that at all but the opposite, I kept listening as I wanted to hear what Dr Ortlund had to say about the church I belong to and love. I was raised in the UCC church my dad was the pastor. My love of Jesus led me to Catholicism and I have only grown more fond of Christ and his church since I converted 36 years ago. I would suggest you also interview some prominent Catholic apologists like Scott Han, Fr Mike Schmidt or Bishop Barron to get the Catholic side on our teachings. It fascinated me that the very reason he discredited Catholic teachings, they changed over time, was what the reason he embraces Protestantism. It is changing. Be intellectually honest please. Also, Mary was given by God the graces she has and it is with His blessing that she has a role in our salvation. And she herself acknowledges that in Scripture. Read the Magnificat in Luke. Mary personally has helped transformed me into the person God created me to be and that is an image of Christ.

I think you misunderstood what he meant about the Protestant church changing. He meant that as protestants, we never have to hold on to our beliefs (outside of the true gospel) so tightly that we can't let them go if we discover we were mistaken. So any changing or reforming we do would hopefully be going BACK to the original truth of God, not adding new truths.

Catholic bible scholar here. You are doing a great job trying to be fair and explain Catholic beliefs. Only 15 min in and I find it very refreshing. I’ll keep listening and add explanation where I can. Regarding purgatory, you’ll find it in 1 Cor 3:10-15, specifically verse 15. The reference to being saved but by “fire” can correlate to our crucible where impurities burn off as we know in Revelation that nothing unclean goes before God. These verses are addressed to those who have the foundation of Jesus Christ, but how we built there on (our “works” are tested ...see verse 13) will be tested by fire on our Day of Judgment. These verses are not addressing those who die in mortal sin.

Nothing to do with a purging, purification, purgatory. According to the grace of God which is given unto me, as a wise masterbuilder, I have laid the foundation, and another buildeth thereon. But let every man take heed how he buildeth thereupon. For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if any man build upon this foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; every man's work shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is. If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire. 1 Corinthians 3:10‭-‬15 KJV Jesus purged our sins. who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Hebrews 1:3 KJV In addition, the sacrifice has been made....there are no more sacrifices, no representing the same sacrifice in an unbloody manner. It is finished. Done. Scripture says so. For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins. But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, But a body hast thou prepared me: In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure. Then said I, Lo, I come (In the volume of the book it is written of me,) To do thy will, O God. Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law; then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; from henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified. Whereof the Holy Ghost also is a witness to us: for after that he had said before, Hebrews 10:1‭-‬15 KJV

So, yes, this passage refers to testing by fire to prove authenticity or purity of one’s works and faith. But No, it does not teach or affirm any period of time in which people’s impurity will be purged. Any concept of a purging location over time that follows this judgment and precedes the eternal state (even for one who barely escapes as through fire) is imported into this text, not read out from it!

I used to be a Catholic for about 9 years. I was trained to be a Minister of Holy Communion, which meant that I had training in the Catholic doctrine and believed certain things. I was able to hand out the wafers during communion. Little did I know at the time, because I was young and not trained in what the Bible actually said, the Catholic doctrine I was taught, was not Biblical. I was taught that the elements actually turned into the Body and Blood of Christ as Dr. Gavin Ortlund explained. Once I became a Born-Again Christian, I found out that this was not true. Jesus Christ did not say "Eat Me", He said do this in remembrance of Me. Once I started digging into the Bible, I was finding out that the Catholics were doing a lot of things that were not Biblical. Basically, the Catholic religion can be considered a cult. The most crucial problem with the Roman Catholic Church is its belief that faith alone in Christ is not sufficient for Salvation. The official position of the Roman Catholic Church is that a person must believe in Jesus Christ AND be baptized AND receive the Eucharist along with the other sacraments AND obey the decrees of the Roman Catholic Church AND perform meritorious works AND not die with any mortal sins AND etc., etc., etc. Catholic divergence from the Bible on this most crucial of issues, Salvation, means that yes, Catholicism is a false religion. If a person believes what the Catholic Church officially teaches, he/she will not be saved. Any claim that works or rituals must be added to faith in order for Salvation to be achieved is a claim that Jesus’ death was not sufficient to fully purchase our Salvation.

You are woefully ignorant and you do not have the faintest idea what you are talking about. Protestants tell a lot of lies about Catholicism because every man is supposed to be his own expert on the bible. But most are not. They cannot even begin to iron out the various interpretations. Your comment makes no sense and I don't believe you were ever Catholic. After having listened to Protestants tell lie after lie about Catholicism, I can tell you that for the most part, Protestants need to tell lies because they broke Christ's church into a thousand pieces, and now they have to tell lies to justify their rebellion against Christ and the bible. So they tell lie after lie about Catholicism.

Wow as a Protestant I'm disturbed at how badly you caricature your former tradition. The Bible actually supports many concepts you argue against and many Protestant hold some of those practices. @farmboy5622 Yes I'm an Evangelical Christian, born of the water and the Spirit - born from above. I personally encountered Christ as a teenager, and He completely transformed my life. I've studied the Bible cover to cover and I love it! A lifetime of study will never plumb its depths. But most of your objections mentioned here are simply not grounded in Scripture. I advise you rewatch the end of this very video. John 6 makes it clear that Jesus indeed emphasized that unless you "eat my flesh and drink my blood, you have no life in Me". When challenged on this controversial claim, Jesus did not explain it away as mere symbolism. 1 Corinthians doubles down on this reality. Christ's True Precense in the Eucharist is something virtually all historic Catholics, Orthodox, and Protestants agree on. Where the disagreement lies is how this works. Catholics insist on transubstantiation, and we Protestants allow for more of a mystery there. Salvation is also a false point of contention. Both Catholics and Protestants believe that we are saved only through Christ by Grace through faith! We differ on the details of how this actually plays out in the individual Christian. 1 Peter 3:21 literally says that Baptism saves, which is how Catholics and Protestants from Lutheran and some Anglican traditions understand being born of the water and the Spirit - although they acknowledge the mystery and exceptions of Christians such as the thief on the Cross saved by faith outside of the Sacraments. We all agree that once you are saved by faith, we still must work out our salvation with fear and trembling as the Spirit works through us. This is where the Sacraments of the Eucharist and Confession come in to provide us means of grace in the sanctification process of becoming more like Jesus. Protestants call this sanctification, Catholics refer to this as increases in justification. But it's all accomplished by Grace to "merit" through Christ's ultimate Merit rewards in heaven. And yes, virtually all Christians throughout history up until recently agree that Scripture affirms that one can lose salvation (initial justification) by being unrepentant over mortal sin (described in Scripture) and in rejecting the faith. Yes Catholics can go overboard in these concepts which can lead to superstitious practices. There is a reason I'm not Catholic. But I know many Catholics who are absolutely in love with Jesus and like Protestants have a firm assurance of salvation. I highly recommend Dr. Ortlund's videos for a better understanding of the Catholic faith - he is actually much more complementary than you may think. We have much to learn from our Catholic family in Christ!

There is One Truth, but only God knows it fully. The Holy Protocanonical Scriptures, the Triune God, Jesus the Godman's life, death, and resurrection to take away our sins - all these core truths every Orthodox Christian tradition shares. In a world of spiritual and moral decay, it's most important that we recognize our Oneness in Christ and use our particular strengths to work as His Body to draw all men to the Love of God through Jesus Christ. That said, as an evangelical Protestant, I find these discussions riveting! I love studying Church history and all the nuanced perspectives therein. I was raised Protestant but became Catholic as an adult and would never, ever go back. This focus on the validity of the apocrypha, purgatory etc ignores a much more serious problem with Protestantism: Protestants threw out Communion and Confession to their massive detriment. Both sacraments were instituted by Jesus himself as recorded in the Gospels. Soooo why do Protestants even claim to be following Sola Scriptura but shrug off such fundamental practices that were instituted by Christ AND practiced faithfully by the very earliest Christians (including belief in transubstantiation, insistence by Jesus in the practice: read John 6)? I certainly understand Protestant skepticism of the Magisterium, Marian devotion etc, but the rejection of confession and communion is extremely problematic. Protestants are essentially saying that Christianity was in error for 1500 years until Martin Luther came along. Pretty similar to what Mormons believe, ie reinstating ‘true’ Christianity. There’s also the huge problem of widespread heresy among the thousands of Protestant denominations in Calvinism and the prosperity gospel. Sola fide and once saved always saved are also completely wrong and pretty nefarious deception (read Matthew 25, it’s quite clear on these issues). Just had to point that out, God bless

I'm a Protestant and I agree with you. Catholics have done a wonderful job of maintaining the sacraments. Protestants have done a wonderful job of putting scripture first, but we have lost our way when it comes to the sacraments. I think both can learn from each other. Keep in mind that "protestantism", if there is such a thing, encompasses a HUGE spectrum of doctrinal beliefs. Conservative Lutherans, some Anglicans, and even some Baptist sects do still affirm the real presence and confession. For all the extra-biblical dogmas, corruption, and abuse in the Catholic church, they have at least maintained unity and reverence for sacred tradition. Both branches have their problems and I think we all need humility to acknowledge that Christ is maintaining His church despite our sinfulness.

@@mzmPACman amen! We are all serving the same God. I am well aware of the many deficiencies of the Catholic Church as well, and pray for the day when all Christians are united in prayer and worship 🙏. Thanks

@m.miller7674 Untrue! Lutherans explicitly reject transubstantiation. Catholics are the only church that believe in the true presence. That's the main difference between protestants and Catholics.

@@mzmPACman great responses by both of you. Thank you. The abuses by those treacherous priests in the Catholic Church are brought home to me as I witness our priests and their incredible pastoral care of our young people in our parish. My blood curls when i consider those priests who have so betrayed the Church of Christ to use the trust established by centuries of good holy men to abuse innocent children or young men. It is even worse when you consider that their hands are consecrated in their ordination. So the abuse is so far beyond evil it is difficult to contemplate. That being said, the fact that these men refused to conform to the moral laws imposed upon them by the Church does not reflect upon the Church - it reflects upon them (& the ideology that allowed them) and it does not reflect upon the many good holy priests. Also, the abuses within the church received the most publicity but are tiny in comparison to the secular world and even other religions. The fact of the abuses and the growth of woke in today’s society has made me appreciate the traditions of the Church- I can remember when the ideologies that allowed these infiltrations first appeared- under the guise of ‘modernising’ and ‘making relevant’. It makes me appreciate the wisdom of holy mother church in her teachings.

Mormons reistating Christianity? Not true at all. Mormonism is not Christian whatsoever. They deny Jesus as God and do not believe in the Trinity, just for one error. They are a cult.

I would LOVE for Dr. Ortlund to do a show with Pints with Aquinas to discuss all of this! Thanks, Beckett, for another excellent recommendation.
