The more people boast about how hard they work the more skeptical you have to be about it. If you look at all the people who actually work super hard they all either hate it or they completely surrendered themselves to it. Elon Musk claims to work super hard but unfortunately his favourite activies being playing video games and trolling on Twitter are easily tracked so we know that this is false. Just in those 2 activities alone he spends far more free time than the average American has and that's not counting non-online activities like parties or dinners which we also know he partakes in a lot. Elon Musk is not a hard worker, he's a capitalist. He doesn't have a high income cause he works hard, he has it cause he was already rich and made a few dumb gambles that happened to work out. However again you can't invest money if you don't have it. We live in a capitalist system, wealth is created from wealth. All the hardest workers in our society are dirt poor.

I think that out of all the examples only David Goggins is real. That guy is just insane taking in consideration how much he punishes his body and the kind of injuries he lives with. Also he's extremely lucky because most of his endurance feats bring him pretty close to dieing. I think that adopting to some extent his mindset can be really helpfull because most people sail through life achieving far less then they could because of lazyness. But not to the extent he does things. I respect him, but his playing russian roulette with his health and potentially his life.

Thing about Goggins, he's great at working out and accomplishing endurance fitness goals, but just ask him about his interpersonal relationships, especially with his daughter...and yeah, it's a bit depressing. I know you didn't say/believe this, but we need to be careful who we idolize/follow, especially in this area (self improvement). There are costs to these extremes, always and that person you look up to? You have no idea what their life is really like behind closed doors (edit: typos)

@@sukmidri also be flexible. You know who the toughest people in our life are Work War 2 vets. The were our parents and great grandparents. You know how many of them have amazing survival stories all of them. Because those without a good survival story died from thinking they were too tough to die. How many of your ancestors were lazy or cowards or were mediocre at something and they survived. Flexibility is far more important.

There's this idea that "people back then used to be tougher" (whenever back then is). They didn't used to be tougher though, they were just like us and adapted their personality and outlook on life to that time period. If Josh, who was 20 in 1941, went to fight in WW2, he would have a catastrophically different mentality than if he was born in 2000. The Josh who was a tough soldier in 1941, would maybe be doing tik tok dances in 2020 if he was born in 2000. (Couldn't help making the joke) The more science advances, in this particular case in regards to psychology, the more we need to understand the core values of knowing when to work hard and push through and knowing when to rest and recharge. These motivational speakers always talk about being efficient and productive without ever stopping but that's exactly why breaks exist, they make you work better.
