I was the same way when I read The Bone Ships, I thought you got kinda dropped into the world without much explanation which I'm normally ok with but the combination of unfamiliar language really threw me. I ended up loving it, both the first two books were 5 stars. I found that there was a point around 1/3 of the way through where the language and world clicked for me and I could focus on the story. I really liked the story but I adore the characters.

I'm so glad to hear you ended up loving The Bone Ships still - that gives me hope that I will enjoy it next time, I just need to put in a little more effort I guess. I love when I love the characters in a book, hopefully I feel the same next time!

I love that you have a paused shelf on Goodreads. If I haven't felt like picking a book back up for months but I still don't want to DNF it, then it gets moved to my 'try again later' shelf on Goodreads. I feel that forcing myself to read a book I'm just not feeling is a bad idea because I'll end up not liking it.

I'm so sad you aren't enjoying The Bone Ships! It was one of my favorites from last year! I do agree that the writing style was something that took me a little bit to get into, but it was so good once I did! I hope it works better for you whenever you decide to pick it up again

I agree with you on the narrator for Ship of Magic - annoying but I got used to her. She narrates all of LST and I believe Rain Wild Chronicles too 😕

Oh man, I was hoping it was just Liveship!! Oh well, I can tolerate her and still enjoy the story so I guess it's not terrible lol.
