Jade, I understand your frustration with the ending. For me, that's why it isn't a 5 Star book. I love gordian knot type stories, that force your mind to contort in such a way, to move you through the plot. Like the Time Traveler's Wife. Not everyone likes/loves that book, but I did. I also LOVE, love, love...non-linear storytelling. This scratched an itch, that I don't always get...and for me, he did it so well. Now, the prison part of the story, and how that works...I don't TOTALLY understand, but I was okay with that. For me, they'd wake up and be free...to escape and be on the run, and that Aiden was able to free Anna (and her past), was what I wanted for them both, and that they'd be able to spend the rest of their life with each other, while also on the run. I was fine with that. To each their own, I guess. BTW, I asked this of you in the other video, but have you seen Terry Gilliam's 1995 movie called 12 Monkeys with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. That has a prison element, a non-linear storyline and leaps of logic, that not all people are able to follow. I absolutely LOVE this film. Now, Marie doesn't, even after multiple times of watching it (and she's now said that she'll NEVER watch it again)...so that boat has sailed. I love the film. Have you seen it? If you have, what did you think? and if you haven't, are you willing to watch it? and get back to me your thoughts? Again, we miss your video analysis...and hope that you can come back to BookTube and share your thoughts on books in this manner, again. Talk to you, soon.

Okay. I've just finished the book, and have written my review. I gave this book 4 Stars, and genuinely loved it. It isn't perfect, and some of the negatives that you ascribed to it, I concur with. I know that you don't usually like books that have messy or untidy endings...that leave the reader with unresolved questions. I am usually like you, but for some reason, I was totally okay with how this book ended. BTW, have you seen the 1995 Terry Gilliam film called 12 Monkeys with Bruce Willis and Brad Pitt. In some ways, the narrative structure seemed similar to me, and some of the people that I've shown this film to...disliked it in the same way that you dislike this book. Just an observation. Talk to you, soon.

In fairness to Kaladin, it wasn't unreasonable for him to think they were going to kill Teft. It's been a while since I read the book, and I don't remember why they **weren't** killing the unconscious Radiants, seems like it would have been a good move on their part.

So glad I found this video because I feel so validated! Everything you said I was thinking already. Way more complicated than it needed to be. And overall just blah feeling with the ending

Maybe I am missing something but 80->120 is a 50% increase (40 points is 50% of 80)...and 120->230 is almost double (ie close to 100% increase). I just went through this in May and some of my increases were also about 50% which is too low... 35->38->65->90-> 235->420->630->810->900 -> Methorexate

About the fatphobic part of the book, my interpretation was that the self-loathing stemmed from Ravencourt himself. The way I read it, Aiden is disgusted by his cruelty, but Ravencourt hates his obesity.

Five out of five? Really? I’m on my first read and this is the first book where halfway through as soon as they introduced Tuon I was like “I’m fucking done” and had to put down the book.

Being a big Sci-fi fan, I actually really liked the time travel, body jumping aspects. The tension of running from the footman and the way Aiden’s bodies starting falling like dominoes made me feel like I was reading a really well-written thriller. The message and the ending were the disappointing parts for me. How can Anna be changed or repent if she is an amnesiac who was no idea what she’s actually done? How can Aiden forgive her if he doesn’t even remember what his sister looks like? There can be no true forgiveness when there are no feelings of resentment or vengeance in the first place. Forgiveness does NOT equal forgetting because forgiveness is the process of letting go of negative feelings. Heck, even the reader barely knows what Anna’s done (we’ve only been told, we were never shown) so even the reader can’t truly forgive Anna because we didn’t hate her in the first place. Also, the whole Evelyn was not Evelyn thing just seemed…. contrived and unnatural. A true mystery gives the reader all the clues so that when the solution finally appears, it is obvious when looking back on it. Even when looking back on this solution, it was not the most obvious or believable answer.

Well said! It was a good premise that turned into Scooby-doo with a laughable ending and lots of shortcuts and Deus ex machina. What was the point of the footman, though?

I was terribly disappointed and frustrated by the ending, that Anna was allowed to leave. Imagine Hitler instead of Anna, could you let him go?! Forgiveness can only be considered after somebody feels remorse and asks to be forgiven, which was not true in Anna‘s case. The author has to reconsider his moral vectors.

I agree, the fact that she only remembers 1 day makes it impossible for her to change. She's changing from what to what? She's a blank slate.
