when people disappear without a trace, they've most likely passed away, otherwise in the modern era of CCTV cameras, cellphone signals, digital trails, credit card trails etc. it's very difficult to just disappear

re-examine the CCTV footage. Unless there are posted signs saying no parking in the street then why didn't Steven park in front of the house he wanted to go to. He was also carrying a sheath of papers. He doesn't live in that community and he's unemployed so he may have been delivering those papers to someone as an odd job. Lastly, as he's walking in view of the camera a small tree blocks our view but it would only take two or three steps to reappear on the other side of the tree and he doesn't reappear before the camera fades out. This suggests he turned and walked across the street. Has law enforcement ever interviewed those homeowners in that community.

Las Vegas doesn't have CCTV cameras at every street. The city, while a huge grid work, only has cameras at key points on the larger/heavily used roads, most of which have had a history of car accidents. Any wealthy community would have their own system, which ends at the gate of the properties. Considering how many houses are out in the city that is 47 x 52 miles wide, with patches of barren land in between at certain points, dry washes, and how hilly Henderson is, there is a lot that could have happened. This is not including how Henderson is the 'vacation' place of a lot of LA gangs. For a Mormon to NOT go to a local elder in the area to find work is what perplexes me. They have a tight system for helping their own find work and have a place to stay. It is something a Mormon cousin of mine always bragged about at holiday settings, being an elder himself. It doesn't help that people are heavily transient in this city, staying 6 months to 2 years, on average. This is why we have such a high outgoing of residents verses those who move and decide to tough it out. Vegas was run by mafia, and have a great deal of strict rules, being very paranoid, seeing every case in the worst light until evidence proves innocence. Where else can you hear of someone getting 2 years in prison for picking up and eating 1 candy bar without paying for it? I don't find this to be supernatural, unless it is just how dark the human species can be in this desert. Vegas has a strange quality to it, and seems to bring out the darkness in some folks and makes it easy to become 'lost' in a variety of ways.

Considering his movements across different districts, and the papers he carried, I was thinking along the lines of him inspecting land/property to buy, maybe secretly as a surprise for his family? But he didn't have any money.

Investigators might have been thrown off by thinking Steven's behavior was strange, and probably connected to his disappearance, but actually, it wasn't strange at all. He lost his job in the collapse of 2008, so he'd been unemployed for a year. When it's been that long, you don't want to tell anyone about your job hunt. You'll just disappoint them. He probably just ran into a random killer.

He was drug-running for his “landlord” in St. George, which explains all of the seemingly pointless road trips in previous days. One of the drops or pickups located in that Henderson neighborhood was a guy with a record. After going to the address in Henderson, which is known btw, he was never seen again. Arrin Stoner covered all of this on his channel and it makes a lot more sense once you check out his vids.

He was also long term unemployed. A 'job' and 'work' could just be a euphemism or cover story, and you wonder why he prioritised paying for fuel above all else? Because he needed to drive in order to do his 'job'. How did he pay for so much gas when he was unemployed? Perhaps his 'boss' paid or he was cut in on some of the proceeds. Being a Mormon he likely felt he had certain standards to live up to, such that being homeless and/or in debt was not the desired situation.

Joshua Powell not only killed himself, he killed his two sons as well. He in fact murdered his wife and his brother helped in disposing of her body. His brother committed suicide a year after his own.
@truthseeker2321
@truthseeker2321 Жыл бұрын
@@osakarose5612This was pretty much big news in the USA and probably Canada back then, but maybe it didn't even make the news in the UK. Powell took his kids " camping " in the middle of the night during a blizzard, and claimed that his wife was missing when they returned the next day. The kids however said that their mother was in the trunk of the car when they left in the night. It was a really weird story, and Powell's father was also arrested for having child porn. His whole family was creepy. He had supervised visitation with his children after his wife was missing, and a woman from child protective services brought them to his house for a supervised visit, when he slammed the door shut in her face after he let the children in. He killed them with a hatchet or hammer and set the house on fire while the woman was calling the cops. It was about a year later that police wanted to question his brother about his involvement in the disappearance of his sister in law that he decided to commit suicide.

The reason why people may give different answers depending on who they talk to doesn’t necessarily indicate something suspicious. He may not have wanted to let his ex-girlfriend’s parents know that he was unemployed, and he may have talked about a job in the same neighborhood as his ex-girlfriend’s parents lived, just as he told his mother. His erratic driving pattern could mean he was looking for someone. Or following someone. The police should check if any other number appear more than once in the same area where his phone pinged. It could also indicate he was a mule, moving illicit items from one drop point to another.

A HUGE number of utah residents visit mesquite and wendover, daily. So sounds like he was gambling and winning enough to keep him coming back to wendover, a few hours away from slc and mesquite, a few more hours and then vegas to try for those big wins?Check the cctv footage in all the casinos in wendover and mesquite...thatd be a good start.

I can relate with Steve's behavior. I acted in a similar fashion this year, leaving home and traveling long distances without saying a word, and keeping it to myself. During that time I was dealing with severe depression, and being a typical guy not wanting to give away any evidence anything was wrong mentally or emotionally, would put up the facade that everything was fine. Acting fine, living fine, but deep down be unraveling inside. Think of it as a silent form of major depression. And it's bad.

I live in Salt Lake City, Utah, and especially back around 2009, knew some colorful characters in Las Vegas and Wendover. The sort of people who might at least have heard rumors about what happened to a dude who disappeared in Vegas. When this case got public attention in SLC a few months after Koecher went missing I made some casual inquiries to friends in Wendover, Vegas, and a few towns in Southern Utah. I heard the same thing from every one of them: nothing. Not a damn thing. As far as anyone I knew could tell, the dude wasn't into anything shady or illegal, or at least hadn't visited Wendover or Las Vegas for the purposes of conducting illegal business. He hadn't pissed anyone off, hadn't made any questionable friends, and none of the shady people I knew had ever heard of him. They hadn't even heard about someone else in their social circles who might have known him, and being a clean cut Mormon guy, he would have stood out in those social circles. It would seem that either he had some manner of accident and ended up somewhere inaccessible--the desert is very big, and mostly empty; Vegas, big as it has gotten, is still a comparatively tiny speck in the desert--or else he had a random encounter with someone who did something bad to him. Random encounters with bad people can be almost impossible to trace, because the lack of connection to the bad actor leaves the police with no way to connect victim and criminal. The funny thing about that though: if he was the victim of a random crime, why would someone do what was clearly a very thorough job of getting rid of the body? Why go to the trouble if no one can connect you, the criminal, to the victim? I suppose one could argue that the best way to get away with a crime to erase all evidence that one ever occurred, but again, Koecher wasn't some desperado with a bunch of bad dudes after him. He was just an average Utah Mormon. On the other hand, what the hell was he doing driving all over the desert before he disappeared, especially if he was low on cash? Long solo drives to cities like Vegas amd Wendover, and visiting old gfs is the kind of thing people before they go away forever--one way or another--but once again, Koecher seemed to be a religious guy who was close to his family. Not the usual type to off themselves, although I suppose anyone might be that type if the brain chemicals become unbalanced. This case has always bugged me, because it happened in my own backyard and over a decade on, no one knows anything. Either someone is the grand champion not only at disappearing a body but also keeping his (her? their?) mouth(s?) shut, which would be equally impressive and spooky; or whatever happened was entirely accidental, and genuinely unwitnessed.

Weeks, actually. There is a lot of details and evidence in this case that is left out of so many videos on this disappearance. Police searched the triangulated position of his phone for it several times and never found it nor any trace of him. If he was walking through the last town, he should have been caught on any number of security cams in the area. Not one ever saw him. Lots of people have been questioned about his disappearance, but no leads even strong enough for a massive dig for remains has turned up. Police and search crews went through numerous old mines in the area thinking he may be in one; they searched who knows how many miles of desert in all directions of his supposed walk. Let me save you a lot of trouble though; in the end, when the police went back to square one, one house on that street kept coming up and its a house that Steven was last seen going to before he disappeared. Police took the occupants in multiple times for interviews and even searched it with cadaver dogs. The dogs would hit on an area of the back yard. The police would dig, but not find anything. Dogs kept going back to that same general area and then later would go to an area in the desert behind the house. There, they found some items such as shredded clothing suspected to be stevens, but could not conclusively link it to him. Also, multiple digs in that desert area failed to find any remains, but that didn't stop dogs from hitting on that area as well as the back yard. In the end, with nothing but weak circumstantial evidence and no body, police had no choice but to give up bothering that house for now. I just saved you weeks of analyzing every bit of evidence available, rummaging through the he said/she said, and kinda wish I could get those weeks back. What I think happened is that Steven is alive out there somewhere; that he was quite possibly drug running for some extra cash here and there (I've known staunch mormons who one would never suspect was into that stuff, yet did it anyway), got the hell beat out of him which would explain the scents and the torn clothing, then wandered away either not remembering who he was, or ran off to start a new life under a new name for fear that whomever he got into trouble with would realize they didn't finish him off and would come for him again. I doubt very much that he had anything to do with Susan Powell as someone, somewhere would have seen the couple together or some evidence in cell tower data would have come to light.

@@windowshasyou5561 Hmm... sounds about right yeah. One thing I guessed is that there WERE leads, just no body found, and thus no hard evidence. That's a thing you find in several cases. The cops have leads, but can't find what they're looking for.

@@windowshasyou5561 after some basic digging I agree it seems like he was earning some easy cash and got in with some of the wrong people, which could have led to his restarting somewhere or buried in the middle of the desert. If some of the LDS branches will argue its their right to marry little girls then what other things are they doing to earn money/power?

That would have been pretty easy to discover. Killing the guy putting a sign on your door doesn't stop the bank from foreclosing on them. That are foreclosure notices are done via certified mail, i.e. if the person doing the delivery never shows back up at work it's not certified and people start asking questions.
