The boys were Australians, they developed their abilities in Australia, they loved living in Australia and Australia allowed them to develop and promoted them from an early age their videos are as performing children on Australian TV are here on YT, also their manager Robert Stigwood was Australian, His RSO company produced Grease & Saturday Night Fever for which the Beegees wrote their most famous hits, Stigwood also boosted John Travolta to fame. Beegees an Australian creation for the world.

I never knew the Isle of Man is in Australia. Yeah, they loved Australia so much they went back to live. Barry became a citizen of the U.S. Robin stayed in England and of course is buried in England. They're Brits! You can't rewrite history to make them Australian. They're not. What's the big deal?

While the British and Australians argue about who gets to claim them for their own, the U.S. got them, made them into what they are today, kept two of them, kept Maurice for good, and will most likely keep Barry for good. So, the U.S. wins.

@charlieiscool1000 Its nice talking w/a fellow BG fan! Yes they had much British influence. I recently bought Keppel Road documentary, saw most of it. Also 'This Is Where I Came In,' many interviews & read a lot of history. They were troublemaker kids- England asked parents 2 move 2 Aust w/them. I think u'll see Barry lived in Aus from age 12-21, Robin & Mo lived there 8-17, & Andy infancy-12. I think that's where some confusion comes in: I'm an Andy fan too & he was 12 yrs younger than Barry.

This being 2009, you can tell Robin is thin and does not look very well. Guessing he was hiding his illness from everyone except his wife; possibly. This gall has done several interviews of the guys. She seems to ask intelligent questions and does a good job.

I'm glad she mentioned how down to earth they are, it's so true! I loved meeting them, they are so sweet! I don't understand the studio thing, because it was my understanding that they sold it, 'before' '09 when this interview took place, and that Barry now has a studio in his home. So it is a bit confusing to me. Anyone know for sure? I went to the one on Bay Road but never went inside and what little you see of it, here, just did not look familiar, I had seen the studio many times in

@charlieiscool1000 They were all over the place. BGs wer born on th Isle of Man which has as much Irish/Scottish heritage/influence as British, right? Then moved 2 Aus. BGs started in Australia. They wer topping charts in Australia b4 moving 2 Britain (GBr). Barry lived in Aus from about age 12 til about 20. Those r very formative, important years. Mo & Robin left GBr at 8. They wer only in GBr 3 yrs b4 moving 2 Spanish Ibiza. No country can 'claim' them. As their song says: We Belong 2 U & Me.

No one can argue that they were British - but the older Barry gets the more nostalgic he is about his time LIVING in Australia, which is totally appropriate, because we had the pleasure of watching them develop from kids to teenagers on TV - and to Aussie fans - they were Aussie entertainers. They weren't just visitors - they were calling Australia HOME. Please don't try and rob us of those precious years, with pedantics - OK!
@kl36208 жыл бұрын
Barry has referred to Australia as home, but truth is, Barry refers to every place as home. Robin has never referred to Australia as home. He has spoken of their time there as a great training ground, but I've heard Robin speak negatively of Australia. They were all Brits. This is fact. Funny, they never went back to live there, and Barry became a citizen of the U.S. Robin was a Brit through and through. I could never see Robin becoming a citizen of the U.S. He loved his born and bred English culture.

@@allymayfulWell, the U.S. got them pretty young, too, during the “becoming” years, and managed to keep them. They chose to live here despite their nostalgia. I get the nostalgia thing. I’m not currently living in the state and area of the U.S. I was born and lived in since my early 40s, and I miss it. Those childhood years are a big part of where you form your heart and identity, and your most impactful memories. That state will always be my home and heart, my “people”, even if now I don’t know if I’d want to live in the part of the state I’m from again. Maybe I’d live in another part. But I may never again. So you may feel a certain place is your home, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll live there again, for multiple reasons. They ultimately chose Miami for career, liked it because it reminded them of Australia, made a life here. Way leads onto way, so they’ve remained here. And I doubt they’re going anywhere now with their kids and grandkids all here.

@@kl3620Yes, a person can have more than one place that they call home. The U.S. is also a home.

@charlieiscool1000 U can say they were born there but u Cannot say they "grew up" in England. Yes family heritage is important, so it Does matter if th rest of their familys from England. 1 of my parents was born & raised someplace that I only visited on vacations & I only went 2 school there a few weeks- but that place is a large part of my heritage because it influenced my parent so much & I heard so much about it growing up. I'm not denying British heritage of BGs- I'm pointing 2 complexity.

@charlieiscool1000 BGs partly grew up in England but why do they luv Miami so? Barry says Miami is like going home- 2 Australia. Reminds them of Australia. My only point was its silly when people get personally defensive about what place can 'claim' an artist. Their creativity has many influences. At 1 point their career & creativity really grew when they took Eric Claptons advice 2 go 2 Miami 2 create music instead of England & took producers advice 2 go w/ the black part of their music roots.
@BGWhisperer11 ай бұрын
The U.S. has a claim to them now, too. Maurice died here. I’m sure Barry will remain here, too. He’s lived most of his life here now, and will most likely spend the rest of his life here because his family is here. 4 of his 5 kids were born in the U.S. Stephen moved here when very young. So at the end of the day the U.S. wins Everywhere they’ve lived has had some influence on their formative years, including the U.S. I’d rather live where Barry has lived the most, and still lives, than where he was born, or where he was a child, so far away, across the sea. I can cross a couple states and be in his state. Yes, the U.S. is where they became the successful group they are today.

@charlieiscool1000 By the way, u happen 2 b speaking w/ someone here who truly has a great appreciation for some of the most wonderful creations that have come from England- I'm thinking specifically of literature & poetry. And my goodness, what needs 2 be said about the Beatles? But one great thing about most internationally-known & internationally-beloved artists of this time in history is that they tend to think like 'citizens of the world.' Some day I'll visit England & see Big Ben, etc. :)
