Lonely days and How can you mend a broken heart were written when Robin rejoined the group. It reflected how they felt about the breakup when he left.

In this video when Barry was really young you can see how much Andy favored him. These brothers were absolutely amazing. I had a coworker who was a few years older than me argued with me that this was the Beatles singing this song. I had to tell him this is one of the best songs of their early career

So many young people think this is the Beatles. Bee Gees as songwriters is a really deep rabbit hole. I prefer their earlier music and full voices. More credit should be given to the 'other' brothers. Mo's instrumental talents and Robin's voice and song writing. I love Mo's Man in the Middle.

Robin had left the group for about 18 months. Fame happened so fast and things just happened. In 1970 they got back together. The day he went to Barry's to talk about everything they, Maurice too, wrote the song How Can You Mend A Broken Heart and Lonely Days. Pretty cool. How Can You Mend A Broken Heart has a whole different meaning when you know the story. These brothers are magical.

What you'll always get by checking out Bee Gees, is real genius. Even on not so well known songs like 'Blue Island', to find on YT, live and unplugged on MTV Most Wanted in 1992.

Fun fact this song is known as the Bee Gees anthem for die hard fans. Weren’t they amazing. They also wrote many songs for other very big stars including Barbara Streisand and Dolly Parton. Massachusetts is one of my favs. Also Spicks & Specks and I started a Joke. I think the Bee Gees are my favourite band of all times. 💕💕

The year was 1970:) They seemed to be energised by variety and something new - in genre and instruments and changing up their vocals, and purposely intent on not letting their sound get stale. Example, from the same period, a song penned, sang, and almost completely played by Maurice would be COUNTRY WOMAN.

You can hear that Beatles influence in the orchestration and the whole British folk-rock vibe i.e., Chad & Jeremy, Jethro Tull, Donovan, Al Stewart, Moody Blues, Spencer Davis Group of the late 60s and early 70s. I was in junior high when this song came out and remember in those days I'd listen to the FM rock stations in my hometown in secret. Didn't want my older brother who was very afrocentric and only R&B to be disappointed in me. Eventually some of those songs crossed over to the black stations too like Traffic's Low Spark of High Healed Boys and John Barley Corn is Dead, Nights in White Satin by the Moody Blues. King Harvest's Dancing in the Moonlight and Van Morrison's Moondance and Caravan. As more African American kids went to college in the 70s they began to have more eclectic music tastes (including my brother!) that included psychedelic rock and psychedelic funk including Sly Stone, Rotary Connection w/ Minnie Riperton, Parliament/Funkadelic.

No it was not. It was a Bee Gees song. Maurice was playing the tune on the piano and Barry and Robin heard it and loved it so they gathered round and they wrote the song together. That is how they did most of their songs.
