This is a good version. You get to see the disco dance floor in the movie Saturday Night Fever while listening to BeeGees. And I wasn't even a BeeGee fan back then. I was into rock music with a harder edge. I love BeeGees now. Age takes the hard edge off youth.

What I enjoyed about that era was the return of couples dancing. The music was great, but it showed people what a dance floor was really for.

I saw the movie in 1978. Even though I was a rocker, and I still am, I loved the Bee Gees from the mid-60's and absolutely love the soundtrack to Saturday Night Fever. Also, loved the movie. Being from Brooklyn, NY didn't hurt either.

"More than a Woman" is typical of the Bee Gees style and radio appeal: the hook is instantaneous and relentless. If you don't start moving when the music starts, don't worry, the mortician will be in to see you shortly.

the Bee Gees (and Barry, in particular) were prolific song writers. During the period they fell into disfavor (yes, that happened) Barry wrote a lot of hit songs for others

The story went that STIGWOOD needed a signature song for his upcoming film GREASE and approached BARRY who he obviously was aquatinted with for a composition . They discussed a few ideas and BARRY came back with a finished demo of the iconic track GREASE(is the word). STIGWOOD about fell out of his chair.

Thank you for bringing back oldshool music to a new generation of fans to experience what we did when these songs were released back in the seventies. These songs were simple and to the point because they told a woman how you felt about her and it was straight to the point. We didn't need cursing or nakedness to tell a woman how we felt and we made her feel like woman should feel like a queen.

In this song, not many young people recognize John Travolta's addition to the song. He wasn't a dancer by profession, but he had that 'step' in him that he brought out in this video. He along with the Bee Gees awakened a desire to dance as a people. Get off work what ever that was, and get down to a place you trusted and just do as good as you could. But Travolta was King Of Dance...
@frankrizzo44603 жыл бұрын
Yes you are correct, I always thought the leading lady in the movie was a little too old for him. And I think she was supposed to be playing a much younger woman but to me she looked like 30s or so...But than again I think Travolta had a thing for Dina Shore at the time 🤔
@dp33963 жыл бұрын

Yes, Barry Gibb here uses the talent of his falsetto voice, the soft high notes. They used it a lot, especially in their love songs. In the more upbeat songs (like Staying Alive) they used their head voices. The perfect harmony they had made them incredible popular for decades. Great you've enjoyed it!

You should listen to the Tavares version of "More than a Woman" equally as good and from the same soundtrack. I remember listening to that first, cause it was released on the radio. Don't remember if the Bee Gee's version was also released on the radio at the time. I was still little. But Tavares also had a hit song called "A Penny for Your Thoughts" which is a great love song.
@dp33963 жыл бұрын
The Bee Gees version wasn’t officially released as a single, but was included on the SNF soundtrack. I remember the top 40 radio station DJ in our area playing both versions. I am sentimental about the Tavares version and wish reactors would give it some attention. I think it’s interesting that a group of brothers was offered the song, and was thrilled that they were invited to be a part of the Grammy’s tribute to the Bee Gees a couple of years ago. They did an awesome performance of MTAW with Jason Derulo!!!

Tunecraft magicians, the Bee Gees. Travolta is a natural dancer, yet minimalist. If anyone has ever watched 'champions' strutt their stuff in ballroom dancing championships, you'll know what I mean by Travolta's minimalist' dancing....one could never tire of watching him move to this tune, unlike championship competitors who are for the most part OTT.
