I listen to the Bee Gees as much now as I did when I was 12yo--best year of my life; I wrote to RSO Records/Robert Stigwood that year about my deep love of their music, and he sent me dozens of old-fashioned albums, a hand-written note, and 8 complimentary tickets to an upcoming Bee Gees concert in my state in return. Me & my friends had the time of our lives at that concert in '79--and it was so cool to be paged out of class at that age for a call from a "Mr. Stigwood in New York." He actually called my home phone number while I was in school, and my mom gave him the school's phone number. He was/is a class act & a kind gentleman; and my love for the Bee Gees has never waned over the years. I was wactually in the hospital when I saw on the news that Maurice had died, and kept wishing it was all just a bad dream. I miss Maurice & Robin terribly, they surely passed away far too young. I still imagine hearing the 3 of them sing together today, how brilliant that would be! The Bee Gees remain my all-time fave band, they are a legendary group for all-time--and the memories their music evokes are priceless. I love their older music equally as much as the disco era--it is all timeless. God Bless you, Sir Barry & may you rest in peace together Maurice, Robin & Andy--still harmonizing together in the Heavens above and bringing immense joy to our lives for decades to come

The song is based on a mining disaster in Aberfan, Wales, in which a huge slag heap fell down on the little village and buried a school. 116 children were killed, and 20 or so adults. The slag heaps were illegal in the first place but when the families sued the coal company, big surprise, the company was acquitted. The book about the tragedy is heartbreaking, as is this song.

I love The Brothers Bee Gees! They always can sing anything & it all sounds great. Thanks for posting this video.

Hi Dennis it's the brothers Gibb. The "Bee" in Bee Gees stands for Brothers and "Gees" stand for their last name Gibb. Take care mate.

Wish they had done more of this stuff.Really a haunting unique sound.That disco stuff was cringing from them-virtually unmistakable today.

A song of a mining disaster, that’s playing a lot in my head during covid19. Especially the line “do you know what it’s like on the outside” for those who are sad and lonely all by themselves 😣

Cringe as if people weren't lonely in 2015

@@refriedboogie But in 2015 people could go out whenever they wanted and see whoever they wanted. I am sorry you don't get it.
@refriedboogie3 жыл бұрын
@@su-rv2uq I do get it. I just find it hilarious that you are sad it makes me happy to know you people are miserable because you can't visit someone. And the fact you blame it on coronavirus is cringe. Blame yourself for not going out of your way to visit someone. Stop blaming bacteria for your problems

I want to tell a story, you can stick around and read it or leave. ---Start--- When i was 5 years old, i used to sing this songs and a couple other with my father on the way to the mall, with my mom, and dad. I knew the words, but since i'm from non english country i didn't know the meanings. Years past by, my parents got divorced. My dad married a new woman and now i don't have time to be with my dad anymore, he has a 6 year olds and a 1 year olds. So a couple weeks ago, i was going back to these songs. Like Living on a Jet plane(John Denver), I'm Yours (Jason Mraz) and others that i forgot. Now i'm older, i understand the meanings. I started crying because i remembered how fun it was to gather around with my family, once i have a kid, i'd definetly introduce them to these songs. ---end--- Thanks for reading, i appreciate it.

Planar ian 17 I think it is a lovely story and a great memory for you, but kinda sad. You should share it with your father, he may not realize how much you miss spending time with him like that. Life goes by so fast, you need to grab those moments while you can. And you're right, make those special moments when you have kids.

It’s so sad. I was only there 11 years old when this disaster happened. Just seeing the mud sodden villagers trying to dig the children from the was heartbreaking. I still remember it as if it was yesterday.

I still own and play out of my 51 year old original Bee Gee's song book that's so rare Amazon doesn't have it. I hope one day when I grow up, I'll learn to sing as good as they did....
