Ive had to commission heat pumps where the Loxone system cased problems. A couple of points from the heating perspective: The person with the app was not present so we couldnt test. A switch in the plantroom to manually open all zones would be really helpful. Micro zones reduce heat pump efficiency. Minimum flow rates must be maintained.

Most modern gas boilers aren't operated with simple On/Off control, but adjusting the water temperature based on your heat demand and/or outside temperature. Can you implement these controls with Loxone?

Loxone - nice to see a different flavour of smart home - We’d love to check out the brewery application 🍻

Haha thank you guys! Hopefully that will be a project I’ll get to work on in the future... but for now here’s a link to a case study of one in Germany - www.loxone.com/enen/blog/loxone-smart-brewery/

Excellent overview. I’m having Loxone installed as I write so a really helpful summary to show the other half what it can do…and why it’s worth all those £‘s!! Can’t wait to fire it up! Thank you!

Is there a way to more precisely control my gasboiler. I have an OpenTherm boiler. I would like to automate it's supply temp (hot side temp setpoint). For example, i have solely floorheating in my livingroom + kitchen, here maximum of 40 degrees would be more than enough. But upstairs and in my attic, i have solely radiators where a minimum of 50 degrees are needed in order for them to be any usefull in heating up the rooms. So what do i need to connect loxone to my opentherm boiler. (Most boilers do not have 0-10v connection) but all have OpenTherm. I can't seem to find any info on the web. Everybody's talking about on/off relay triggers, but i don't feel the need to make my boiler heat up to a whopping 60 degrees*, just to supply heat to my floorheating unit. Most time of day, upstairs will be minimally to not heated at all. *This is because higher temperatures are less efficient. This is because in ratio, more heat will be lost trough the boiler exhaust. Cheers, Joshua

Hello Chris, I’m currently about to embark as a Loxone partner, hoping to become an installer after I’ve gone the full hog at my own home, (which is currently being renovated throughout). I’m installing the preliminary wiring to cater in all areas but intend to install the Loxone switches and devices. If I have my own light fittings - internal and external, will that still work with the Loxone system? I’ve found your videos extremely helpful by the way. A very clear and concise explanation of how the system works, very succinctly put.👍🏽

Thank you very much for the kind words Sheargill, really appreciate it. Yes you can use pretty much any light fitting - 230v switched or dimmed, DALI, DMX, 0-10v dimming. All possible using Loxone 🙂👍🏼

Hello Chris, great video, quick question does each room not need a hi-low temperature sensor or does the presence sensor also do this job? Regards mike

Hey Mike, many thanks for the kind words. Each room needs a temperature sensor, these are built into the Loxone touch switches. The presence sensors don’t include them. Hope this helps 🙂

Great video and an awesome system! Are there any advantages/disadvantages to the wired mini-server vs the Wired mini go for retro fitting? Do these give the option to expand the system in stages to the various system capabilities creating a smarter home over time(perhaps due to budget constraints)?

Hi Stephen thanks for the kind comment really appreciate it. There is no real differences between the two other than one is wired and one is wireless, if you can pull a cable to a device then that’s what I would do but it’s not always practical. Using the wireless miniserver go it would be easier to expand the system over time, yes that’s right.

Educational video! What is the most common to control the heat source in most installations? With on/off (relay) signal or with a modulating signal like 0-10v? Thanks.
@beeautomation

Thank you Jan. For switching a heat source on/off like a boiler or air source heat pump it’ll be a relay. You might use a 0-10v signal for controlling a particular type of valve.
