I don't think I have ever seen this video. What a crazy large hive. Welcome to that old Weyerhaeuser siding, it stays wet and turns to mush. It was recalled and we did a lot of replacement. This was a cool video.

I'll always remember the vast number of drones from this removal. Never had I seen so many, it seemed there were just as many drones as workers. Glad you finally got to see it, and yes, that was some nasty siding. I was building houses in the early 80's and that stuff was everywhere, and I remember when the law suits began. get some white tarps for the next one. lay them on the ground to catch the bees. lift the edge and jiggle it to get them slid to the comb and out of the way. it'll keep the ground debris separated from the bees to make vacuuming easier and faster.

Wow!!What a gigantic colony.The amazing thing to me is that these bees not only survived without any treatments from man but were thriving. I'm not sure if after you got them back to the Abby you found anymore queens. If not then I would like to see those genetics passed on to future queens. Seeing videos like this is part of the reason I'm a Beekeeper. Thanks for sharing!
@JeffHorchoff10 ай бұрын
The queen we captured was the only queen in this hive, and like you said, they have survived all this time without human intervention. As I am a "treatment free" beekeeper, the health of this colony is no surprise to me. I have been keeping bees in southeast Louisiana for 45 years and have never treated my bees. Currently I maintain 150 plus hives with annual losses of between 17% to 35% which is below the national levels of losses. Treatment free works for me, but I feel each beekeeper needs to decide for themselves wether it's best to treat or not.Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. How do you know when the bee vac is full and you can't get any more bee's init?

I use weight for that determination. I was glad we had two vacs with us because we used both of them and they both weighed several pounds. Thanks for watching. God's peace Steve. Mr. Ed

Another south Louisiana monster hive! When is the building scheduled for demolition?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
The building is slated for demolition by termites within 2 years...unless more bees move in and keep the structure upright with propolis. God's peace brother. Mr. Ed
@NATURALBEEKEEPERSCOLLECTIVE Жыл бұрын
Look at the size of that Colony and no silly bee keepers treating them with mite killer lol Take note guys! look how much honey there is and how healthy they look and that is living with termites aswell Jeff I have to say that beats my biggest one this year so far. Just touching on what you was saying about your concern about robber bees. Yes its a huge problem. But you can keep a smoker going and if you start seeing bees hovering with their legs down just get one of your buddies to puff some smoke, all around the area. I also do that in our yard when doing inspections. It really does work wonders.

You are very welcome, it's a joy to share our experiences.I post these videos, to show just how important bees are to our very survival, and why we should not just kill them out of ignorance. I have been rescuing bees from being needlessly destroyed for over 13 years now, and hope to continue to do so for many more years to come. Thanks for watching, and I hope you will check out more of my bee wrangling/ bee rescues adventures and let me know what you think of them. Oh wow. What an awesome hive . Isn’t it amazing how bees work. Nothing like saving bees. I’m getting my 8 acres started on veggies and flowers before I get bees. Plan to get them in the next year or two. Just waiting to see how the rest of Australia goes with them. Sadly they’re destroying hives at the moment and while I’m not in the zone of them happening it’s getting closer and closer. 😢

Australian beekeepers are going through some rough times at the moment, but I'm sure things will improve and level out. I'm excited for you as I always say, the world needs as many beekeepers as it can get. Thanks for watching. God's peace. Mr. Ed

If you vacuum robber bees with the other bees what will the native bees do to the robber bees?
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
If to many robber bees are vacuumed, they will fight with the hive bees in the bee vac which is why I have to stop vacuuming once to many robber bees show up. Another great vid thanks. How many brood boxes did you put them in, Them queens know how to hide BUT not from you, great find. Do you think she fell off the comb that dropped to the ground.
@JeffHorchoff Жыл бұрын
She was for sure on the comb that hit the ground. Fortunately, she was not crushed and we were able to grab her. Since I put the bees in my Layens hive, there was lots of room for the brood and the bees. Thanks for watching. God's peace Dennis. Mr. Ed
