Fun fact: ну is commonly used when you ride a horse and it stops moving, or you want it to go faster (just like in conversation, when ну us used to hurry up your companion's speech), so there is one quite well-known proverb reply to this situation in conversation: "не нукай, не запряг", which translates as "don't tell me ну, you didn't harness me". This can be considered a bit rude, but knowing this little proverb would make your Russian way closer to native :)

"Nu" is very popular word in Israel and commonly used among Hebrew speakers. It was imported to Hebrew language by Russian Jewish immigrants from former USSR. It is used in the context of: So...+ the rest of sentence. For example: "Nu, My iyehe itha, matai tithaten kvar?"= So, what will be with you? When will you get married already? =Noo, shto budet s taboy? Kagda budetye genitsa?

Well, not exactly, or how I'd say in Russian: "ну, не совсем" 😉 Even though it's not applicable in formal text, like documents or protocols, it's a persistent part of speech - same as "well" when used as interjection.

Hello! It is not everything about "ну". We can use that also like a question. Like this: "ну?". When somebody telling you something, for example: "Do you know what Jack said to Marry?". You can answer: "ну?". You don't know what did he say but with "ну?" you just like ask a person to tell you about that situation: "ну?" = "what? (what did he said her?)." The second moment when you are arguing with somebody and all his arguments are over, and you ask him like: "ну?" = "So? (what next?)". With "ну" you are calling the person for futher actions. "Ну" in this situation plays the role of the challenge, you are challenging the person to do something more. "Ну? Что дальше?" - "So? What next?" ("What else are you going to say?")

"Ну" almost the same as "hmm" We talk "НУ" when: we think, we ask, we don't know anything, and so on. here are examples in Russian -вам какое кофе? -ну... капучино. What kind of coffee do you want? - well ... cappuccino. -Какой ответ в 5 задании? -скорее всего.... -ну?! - What is the answer in task 5? - most likely.... - well?! -I'm going for a walk -Okay, put on your hat - well, why? -Я пойду гулять -хорошо, надень шапку -ну зачем? хочу добаить, чем отличается "да ну" от "ну да" да ну- не ужели; правда?; не верю; нет. ну да: конечно; правда; утверждение. yes, well- not really; really?; I don't believe; no. well, yes: of course; true; statement.

НУ - everything you need to know about it! Hello friends! How are you? Привет Друзья! Как дела? Privyet druz'ya! Kak dela? My name is Fedor and today let's talk about “НУ[Noo].” НУ[Noo]in Russian language especially in the Russian speech is very commonly used. And I can say that about myself. I use НУ[Noo] a lot when I speak, when I text in a message; when I speak to a person you know face to face. 1. FILLER WORD НУ[Noo]is one of those particles. It's like a filler word that we say without really having its own meaning. It's still going to influence the meaning of the whole sentence, like if i were to translate НУ[Noo] within a sentence, I probably wouldn't translate it by itself as a separate word. I would more likely translate it as a sort of like an emotion that it gives. ★ But НУ[Noo] in Russian kind of means “Well”. If I say : - Well i don't know. Ну, Я не знаю. Nu, YA nee znayu. ★ In the beginning kind of like is giving you that idea of “well i'm thinking “. Well, actually, um like you are thinking, you're contemplating this stuff. So НУ[Noo] is showing that kind of that you are not sure about about what you're about to say. So НУ[Noo] - is first function is like a filler word to buy some time about what you're saying.

Top work Fedor. Fellow students. Don’t freak out over analysing NU. My feeling on this particle is that it is important to hear Russians speaking and to hear NU being used. I like NU I NU. ( surprise). And DA NY (surprise?) and NU DA ( reluctant agreement), which is like NU LADNO. And NU CHTO ZHE which you say at the start of a phrase: sort of like “well then”. And when all else fails use NU to fill in gaps - at least it makes you sound Russian. 😎🇷🇺😀

in english I think you could easily say "ok" and "ну" are very similar because when you use the word "ok" its always said in conversation to have the person continue like they are interested in the conversation BUT you aren't agreeing nor disagreeing with what is being said, its an acknowledgement type of word in that sense that someone is talking to you and you are showing them that you are listening. it is also used as a passive form of agreement and depending on how it is said, that shows the level of agreeance. If you're parent says to go do your chores you would say "ok" as an agreeance with her but you would say it grumpily because you're not happy about it. If you're talking about something fun with a friend like going to the beach tomorrow and you agree you would say "ok" more energetically to show you are really agreeing with the idea of going to the beach tomorrow.

So it has a lot of similarities to the filler word "no" in Finnish! Like ну да has pretty much the same meaning and even the same words as no joo in Finnish. I have seen it translated as that in textbooks, but you also gave examples of ways one can use ну that are different from how one would use no. Like the example of it used as a yes. Очень интересно! 2. AGREEMENT Next meaning of no is when we say no in agreement for example let's say one person is telling you a story and he's telling you let's say how one person did them wrong and they're explaining the story to you and you say ★ So /Yes-Yes…Yes Ну-Ну…Ну Nu-Nu…Nu ↓ so you kind of like agree with them by letting them know that you are listening. You're kind of saying: No, go on, go on. Keep going, keep going, keep going. So Ну[noo] is going to add that meaning like of kind of agreeing with the person, to let them know that you understand what they're saying. But you don't necessarily say: “Yes, I agree. You don't express that opinion. You simply tell them or letting them know that you accept what they're saying. So they can just simply keep going. 3. Ну[Noo] having it’s own meaning. Next meaning of Ну[noo] is actually something that you can say that it will have its own meaning. For example, let's imagine this situation: You and your group of friends are gathering for a party, let's say, and it's six of you guys and the five of you are already there. So you're calling the last person to ask him where are you and he's going to ask you back: Are you all there already or something? Вы все уже там что ли? Vy fsye uzhe tam chto li? And you can respond: Yes. Where are you? Ну. Где ты есть ? Noo. Gdye ty yest'? So he is surprised in asking you so you are responding to say “Ну.[noo]”=Yes, yes, where are you?” So knowing this kind of meaning will express this kind of like: Yes, of course /okay or yes. /obviously okay. So you can you kind of by expressing your your anger with that person a little bit within within this note. As you can see guys, I have a hard time really pinpointing the meaning of it because as Russians, we don't have a specific thing that we give it. \ Ну. [noo] means this or that it's more of an emotion that we express with this little particle “Ну”-Noo. And the more I explain, I hope that you guys are catching it more and more and more. That's why sometimes it may feel like I'm going over and over and over the same thing multiple .I just simply try to paint a bigger and better picture; more precise picture for all of you. So within this meaning “Ну. [noo] “ no is going to express that yes of course/ yes without a doubt and you are expressing a little bit of annoyance and anger with the person who is asking that.

4. Ну. [noo] within phrases 4.1 Well, Okay let’s do it. Ну Давай Nu davay. We add in this little Ну[noo] because without it that it would be “ Let's do it” but, Ну Давай[no davai] it's more of like all right let's do it once. It's somebody else's idea that they want to do something and you say” why okay that's fine”. You are agreeing with them but you're not too enthusiastic about it. You simply agree because the other person is kind of you know having a stronger opinion than you. 4.2 Ok, allright. Ну ладно Noo ladna. ↓ So this one is still the same thing. Ладно [ ladna] is you're saying: “ All right, you know, okay, whatever. You kind of agree with what's happening you mean it may not be like a request that somebody is asking you :”Hey let's do this”. Maybe just simply a fact: “Oh she's doing better.” And you can say: Ok, allright. Ну ладно Noo ladna. ↓ Then you know. So nowadays is going to show that you understand what's happening and you and you get it . It's more like : Um - a very passive “okay, all right” . That means “well okay ”. 4.3 Yes, sure Ну -ну Noo-noo ★ So Ну -ну [noo noo] doesn't have its own meaning whatsoever. It means to express “Yeah sure, um, you're lying to me “ It's when somebody is telling you some lies and you show that you are not agreeing with them or you don't believe them. Ну -ну ↓ “Yeah sure, go ahead and tell me all these lies.” When you don’t believe someone and you are showing that sarcastic agreeing.

4.4. Well/So what for? Ну зачем ? Nu zachyem? ★ Зачем [zachyem] By itself means: what for ? And Ну зачем ? [Nu zachyem?] You're showing “Oh, my gosh, why did you do this? What for ?” You know you're showing again your annoyance with the person or anger with the person. When they did something and you simply want to know why they did it. : What for ? You know you're making a mistake. Let's say you're playing some computer Game. Let's say it's csgo. I know Russians played that a lot . Maybe you're playing as a team and your teammate instead of shooting an enemy they shot you, and you can ask them: Why did you do this because there is obviously no reason to shoot your teammate. 4.5 Yes, Ну дa. Nu da. ★ And this is the very last phrase for today. It means again unenthusiastic “yes/yeah”. It's kind of like a passive “yeah”, like that okay. So now you guys know all the phrases that Ну[nu ]is used with.It is more of an emotion that we try to express. So the more you speak Russian and the more you interact with Russians, you understand this one better and better and better.
