Great Melanie that you are focusing on a plant based diet and what are the reasons you still need some meat protein. I am fully vegan whole plants foods based and mainly my source of protein is beans, legumes, seeds, grains and nuts and I also have a lot of fruit and vegetables for all the vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. If it's for the Iron if you eat a lot of green vegetables and legumes, seeds, grains you will get your iron (unless you have allergy issues with the above foods).

Be thankful that you are both on board with this. I made huge improvements in my health with a WFPB vegan diet. I cured my prediabetes and dropped my cholesterol 187 points but my wife has been highly critical and disparaging me for such an "extreme" diet. I was having some heart issues and the cardiologist said that there is no medication that can do what my diet has done for me. Despite this, my wife, has been angry with my and tells me that I "have lost my mind" for eating this way. It is a shame because she has a lot of health issues and is quite overweight. The conflict has unmasked a lot of deep issues in the relationship. Unfortunately, we are now in the process of getting divorced. It could have been such fun if we could have shared in this health journey. I love seeing such a joyful vibrant couple like yourselves that have enhanced their lives and marriage with good nutrition. Again, be thankful that you share the same values. You are so fortunate.

Love your story, and happy for you that you figured this all out while you are still young. I am a breast cancer survivor....thought I was healthy as a horse but had 40 yrs of yo-yo dieting under my belt. While undergoing treatments I started researching veganism, and a friend from HS is a vegan health coach. She offered me her services for free. I was in the middle of throwing up boundaries and drawing lines with all the people in my life, and I told her I could not go vegan because food was my friend. She told me to get a new friend and a switch went off for me. Lost 50 pounds in a year by never dieting and eating plates full of veggies and felt so good I have never looked back. Bonus I am on zero prescription meds for anxiety, depression or pain.

One of the most important things is the make sure you get your calories, feel satiated! Too many people equate eating vegan to calorie restriction. If you eat whole food plant based you can make amazingly colourful meals if you plan and have time. But also if you don’t have time to make a specific meal or dish, you can just look in the fridge, see what you have and stick it in a pan with some Bragg’s aminos or liquid smoke (No oil) Mixing all things together you would probably never consider....the options are endless. An instant pot is amazing, just throw stuff in it, veg stock a few herbs and turn it on......eat, eat, eat.....

I have been lacto vegetarian since 1994. I am 44 but everyone tells me that i look in my early 30's. So meat does make you age. I drink almond milk, almond ice cream and almond ice cream. I do not eat eggs i only eat cheese because vegan cheese is aweful. If i can find a good replacement i will definitely go vegan. All my family has high blood pressure. I on the other hand have low blood pressure. (100/110 max), everyone in my family is overweight including my husband (who is NOT a vegetarian) and my in father and mother in law both are diabetic. His father's mother died of complication due to diabetis. I will try vegan cheese.

And why are you getting there slowly? There is no: let's be just a little gruesome to sentient beings. If you have a heart you switch IMMEDIATELY to vegan. Because there are two options: 1. You support mass murder. 2. You don't support mass murder. Use your brain. You don't need milk eggs and yoghurt. And if you don't want to use it. Well then stay a robot just doing what marketing and promotion of billion dollar industries wants you to do. Or maybe some other organ, than your brain is working better... The hard part is that my husband and two children are not vegan, which I think is something huge and that must be thought and decided by each one at the right time. Cooking meat is becoming harder and the result is that they’re getting less meat, more like a vegetarian diet and, hopefully in the future that can join me on this amazing journey. As I'm writing this comment, just yesterday I had this state where for a few hours I was so calm and joyful from the inside, there was no confusion as to what I wanted to do, I just did it, I felt so sure and peaceful and was FULL OF ENERGY even though few hours ago I felt SLEEPY, LACKING REST. Something I did that day that just clicked and brought this state around. And now I'm on a search on how to MAINTAIN IT ALWAYS. And I think that one of the key components is what we eat. Definitely when I eat heavy, unhealthy food like snacks, chips, pizza and so on (Plus most of the time overeating it), I feel heavy, sluggish, lethargic and not wanting to do a lot.

That’s a great point! Yes, we both have overcome anxiety, depression, panic attacks and learned how to better handle stress. I can safely say we’ve both never felt better, in regards to everything you mentioned! Clearer, more peaceful, energized, and confident in our choices that we are making that impact others for good!

If you search for 'breast cancer' and 'fasting' you should be able to find a study in which the data showed that women who fasted for at least 13 hours overnight had a greatly reduced recurrence rate. Less than 13 hours showed no effect, so that's the magic number you should aim for.

I’ve been eating a mostly plant based diet for just over 1 year. I say mostly because I still eat chicken eggs, and I just very recently stopped eating fish. I feel better than I have in some time. I’m still trying hard to add more exercise, mostly fast pace walking, to my weekly schedule. My night time sleeping is also improving now that I’ve cut out coffee and all other caffeinated drinks. I look forward to following your vlogs ( I just subscribed today 😊)

New subscriber! Thank you for sharing your story. It's very inspirational. I am newly fully plant based and am finally feeling better after 2 yrs of living a nightmare with my health. I was on a feeding tube for 8 months with horrible formula that didn't help at all and made me worse. It was a blessing when my body rejected my feeding tube. I slowly began a plant based diet having to puree all my food first and cook it. After several months, I can now eat raw foods, salads, beans, some nuts, etc that I never thought I would be able to do. I am beating my gastroparesis with a plant based diet! I am no longer on death's door and so thankful to finally be thriving! The only issue I have now is not being able to eat a ton of food at once. I still have to eat 5-6 times a day, but it's working for me!

This was great! I have been vegetarian for a little over a year now. Was never a big meat eater even as a child. I would occasionally eat chicken and turkey at Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner. My biggest weakness is at night...that is when I get the munchies. What is something vegan to snack on in the evenings? I am going to definitely try to move from vegetarian to vegan. You two are so cute together and your little baby is just precious.

What an awesome health journey! I love the quote 'you can't exercise your way out of a bad diet' because I totally used to think I could until I realized I was feeling like crap and not as lean as I should be with the amount of training I was doing. As soon as I went vegan plant based my health went to another level. Wish I was vegan my entire life but so happy I was able to find it when I did and sounds like the same for you! Great video.

Your story is very similar to me and my husbands. We both didn't want to date after horrible relationships so we just hung out all the time, partying drinking etc. Then we both started gaining weight and got sick so many times. After watching vegan documentaries I stopped eating animal products right away! We've slipped a couple times and can definitely tell the difference because I would get sick or tired right after! I hope more people can be open minded about the plant based lifestyle!

And I love your channel name/message of prioritizing those three things, especially the resting better because it is just as important as the other two.

When you said about the flight it hit home I spent alot of time in ambulances hospitals for a long time u till I went through lots of medications and found one that helped but I don't want to be on it any longer I want to fight it with food the health way that's why I'm transitioning to vegan, I had a one hell of a bad time still not perfect but I desperately want to get healthy. I dont miss the old junk food surprisingly and I thought it would be harder eating at the FIREHOUSE but I really enjoy preparing my meals and it always look colorful. I dont feel sluggish or tired. I've noticed I've gained a little more energy but I'm still learning and just not sure how to balance things out so I'm not lacking balance. Being a firefighter, keeping strength is important to me. Sorry I was trying to keep it short. Lol hopefully I can learn from you guys as well and incorporate it all together.

I loved this video :) literally everything you were describing from binge drinking to eventually developing severe panic attacks and depression/anxiety literally is exactly what I’ve gone through. Especially the doctors visits with no answers and everything blamed on anxiety being the cause. I have always felt like my diet has been the root of my health problems... I have been interested in the vegan lifestyle for quite awhile and have attempted it more than once. Last time I made it to 2 weeks and I just felt terrible! Obviously I was doing something wrong :( I’m hoping I can try again and have better luck next time... going to speak with a dietician to hopefully get some advice.
