Love this video! I am slowly starting a whole food plant based diet. When I started my journey towards becoming a Traditional Naturopath, the more I couldn't ignore how sick everyone is. Most people are so against plants, and there is so much knowledge and studies proving how amazing plants are for us. If you look at cancer patients who healed, they never say "I healed with an animal based diet". When you look at healing foods, they don't mention animal sources, it is always plants.

I am a vegan (for a decade) and people are so confused as to what vegan is versus a plant-based diet versus a whole foods plant-based diet!!! One is purely ethical and not a diet. And the other two are diets! For the health of my soul I’m vegan, for the health of my body whole foods plant-based all the way!!! Thank you for standing in this space where so much confusion and vitriol exists. You inspire me and I immediately shared this video. And I feel like I say this in all of my comments, but I’m saying it again, I love the Eat Move Rest meal planner!!!

I 100% agree with what you are saying, but I’ve started to hate the term “plant-based” because no one knows what it means. Marketing has ruined it so now If there is a plant anywhere in the ingredients they label it plant-based. We bought a “plant-based” frozen Philly cheesesteak….that actually had cow cheese. So annoying. 😢

How do you get enough taurine on a vegan diet? Ive been supplementing with some aminoacids after psychosis beeing vegan for 5 years. I also take nac n-acetyl cysteine. Taurine is only in animal foods. Or there is some taurine in nori but not so much. Maybe like 100 gr in 2 tbsp nori flakes. I also wanna be vegan so supplementing with some aminoacids now.

As a 15+ year plus vegan... One of the reasons I've seen that many people stop eating vegan is because they haven't explored the real reason WHY they are wanting to become vegan. Many times people are jumping into veganism because they feel that they can "lose weight quickly" or scared into it from watching a documentary and make a quick decision... I always suggest making a slow transition and see how your body is reacting to it. As with any change, if you aim to do it overnight you won't be able to consistently stay there.

My why of health left my mind when I got sick with a b12 issue. :( I am pregnant now and vegetarian and thriving now. I want to eat more whole foods plant-based and supplementing. Thank goodness I am now as a vegetarian wjth b12 and iron, vitd and a prenatal:)

So...not too long ago I found myself only eating animal products with dinner, and experiencing better overall health (consuming mostly whole food, plant based). Then I went back to animal products at all meals, cutting out fruits/veggies and had some other outside circumstances that landed me in the hospital. My hospital stay will probably end up about 4 months, but once I'm out this vid will be a big help for getting back in a positive, healthy direction. Thanks for the motivation!

My son is 25 and eats a SAD diet. He was having lots of weird symptoms and went to the doctor. He was diagnosed with critically low vitamin D levels and was also vitamin b-12 deficient. He had to be put on mega doses of supplements just to him him back into a normal range. I know some other parents with about the same age children, who have also been diagnosed with vitamin deficiency. I now believe that a whole generation of kids/young adults are suffering with these deficiencies due to all the “Franken-foods” they’re consuming and fear of sun touching their skin. I really hope people will open their eyes to the fact that they’re being poisoned and malnourished with the current health recommendations of our own FDA. So sad 😞. Thank you Erin and Dusty for spreading your knowledge 💚.

I agree my son is 25 to . I definitely believe he is nutrient defiant . Sadly because he is a adult he has to come to the place of change because he is fast food addict . I pray he changes everyday but it’s ultimately in his hands now as a adult although I will continually encourage but not nag lol At his age now parents can sound nagging I guess instead of concerned.

Hi Erin and Dusty. I've been following you for a few years, and I was vegan for 7 years. I'm not vegan anymore after struggling for a long time. I don't agree with the notion that one size fits all. We are different, and our bodies are different. I had issues my whole life with low iron, and when I went vegan- it just went worse. I supplemented, i even had iron IV', I even used the ring (birth control) to reduce the amount of blood I was losing every month). I ate healthy and loaded with iron rich foods- my body was just not good enough in transforming these foods the way it does with eggs, fish and chicken (I didn't go back to eating mammals). Same goes for issues with lentils, beans- that made me bloated all the time (I soaked, sprouted, all the recommended things, didn't help). After experiencing such radical negative impact, and struggling for so long, I went back to eating animal protein, and I'm feeling much better. My blood tests are perfect. And I wasn't a junk food eater, I cook every day from scratch. I really don't appreciate the reaction of vegans to ex-vegans, these reactions are not kind, judgmental and not in place. Not everyone thrive on a plant based whole food lifestyle. Especially when it is online- from people who don't know you or your medical history. It is a very healthy diet- and to this day I am mostly hfpb- but it's not the answer to all medical issues.

I never once heard or got the vibe that they were going saying that all ex-vegans need to go back to being vegan and this is the way, I feel as though they are trying ti help all those who still want that lifestyle bur have not been successful in it yet. There must be something deeper in you that has let this trigger such a response to them simply trying to help others along their journey. No matter which way your journey takes you I hope it works out for you.

Replace before you remove!!! Love it so true!! I agree as well our body needs time to heal. I had eczema which is why I went plant based and it took a while for dairy to leave my system apparently it takes 8 weeks. My parents always ask me why is it that dairy affects me now if I’ve had it all my life. God has given us such great bodies that it’s been doing well for such a long time but after so many years of damage eventually we will see the results and we can’t expect to heal quickly when it took years for the damage to occur

Great video! Thank you for so clearly explaining why people fail on a vegan diet. Planning was the biggest game changer for me. Once I got that down, the rest fell into place 🙂It also needs to be said that these 'why i'm no longer vegan' people were never vegan to begin with, they were plant based for health and there's a huge difference. Veganism is an ethical standpoint against animal cruelty. Keep up the good work educating and inspiring people to live ethically and healthfully.

All great info but would love more in-depth advice on overcoming being the only plant-based eater in my social group. Also, I'd like to point out that it's great to hear Erin talk about her ups and downs within her plant-based journey bc it's exactly what newcomers like me are experiencing now. For the future, how are y'all planning to battle the thought of your kids being exposed to the typical yet unhealthy kid foods (when they go to school and see everyone eating nuggets for example)? I'm switching to plant-based cold turkey to heal my body to then be the best version of myself for my kids. Thanks for all the help!

I'm glad you guys mentioned how not all "vegan" products are healthy. People THINK they're eating healthy because they've eliminated meat, dairy, and poultry. But these "vegan" products contain bad oils, emulsifiers, natural/artificial flavor, added sugars, and others (msg/yeast extract, caramel color, dyes, carrageenan, maltodextrin). I've completely healed my anemia (which caused me to need a blood transfusion) and uterine fibroids by simply eating only fruits and veggies, and taking herbal supplements (that contain things like stinging nettle, red clover, sarsaparilla, irish seamoss, bladderwack, blue vervain, turmeric, black mulberries, dandelion, etc...). I do have a question: Is it normal for beans to give you gas? I've tried soaking and rinsing them for as long as 24 hours, and they still gave me gas when I cooked them. I'm thinking they're just not compatible with my body. All nut and seeds have the same effect on me (except hemp seeds, walnuts, and Brazil nuts).

Thanks for sharing this interesting & informative video Erin & Dustin. Yes, too many people are becoming ex-vegan or ex plant based dieters ( which would be the accurate title). Agree even non vegans are deficient in nutrients without supplements. Junk or processed foods regardless of whether they are animal or plant based because all the nutrients have been taken out of them, that's why they are called Junk or Ultra processed foods. Love 🥰 the video and love 💞The Stanczyks.

Hi, just wanted to say I've loved this channel and your sweet family. I still watch even though I'm not vegan anymore. Discovered you during my vegan journey. I wanted it to work for me, but it just didn't. 18 months in and my health unfortunately suffered. My best friend however has been flourishing on a vegan diet for 10 years. I think we are all different. I suffer IBS and it was uncontrollably worse with WFPB. I did ALL the things, but ended up severely anemic and required 4 weekly iron infusions. Also lost my gallbladder due to such low fat intake, and now believe my hormonal issues were also related. I ended up with a hysterectomy. I'm feeling so much better now as an animal based omnivore going light on veg due to my gut issues. My running has returned full force and I have so much more energy now. Some people's bodies need way more fat than others, and the nutrients that come from animal products. I wish you all the best and will continue to watch!

I agree that we are all different and that not everyone will thrive jumping straight into a 100% WFPB diet but I do think that a vegan diet can be adapted to almost everyone needs. For example I struggle with whole grains and many fruit and vegetables. I eat more processed grains like pasta and potatoes for carbs and slowly introduce different fruit and vegetables until I no longer react to them. If you need more fat then there are always seeds, nuts and even a little olive oil. Green juices are also a great way to get iron and other vitamins and minerals without excessive fiber that some react to. Sometimes you just need to take it slow rather than just having an all or nothing attitude.

@@FM-qm5xs Yea but for me, it's tough with a gluten sensitivity and nut sensitivities and IBS. Believe me, I tried it ALL because I really wanted it to work. I've been vegan since 2016 after looking for healthier ways to eat and running into several documentaries that left me sobbing on the couch for the animals. I could never eat another animal in my life. So I was a junk food vegan for about 5 years, excited every time a company came out with a new vegan product. In the last year, I've really been trying to switch to a plant based diet, for health reasons. I've been taking meds for high blood pressure for 20 years, and my doctor wanted to increase my BP meds AND put me on cholesterol meds because my cholesterol went over 200. I didn't want that, so I switched to mostly plant based and got both my BP and cholesterol down to acceptable levels in 3 months. But, there have been moments recently when I wished I never knew what happened to the animals and could just be more "normal" in social settings. I just went on a cruise, and I know I could have requested vegan meals in advance, but I'm just not that person. The chefs have thousands of meals to prepare, there's no way I'm going to request they make me something different. They offered vegetarian meals and I figured it wouldn't be too awful if I consumed just a little milk, cheese, and eggs for one week. I still felt guilty for all the mama and baby cows. As soon as I returned home, back to mostly plant based, with a vegan treat occasionally. But it's definitely hard to always be the social outcast. Sometimes I'd just like to stop and grab lunch or dinner with a friend without having to check the menu out first, or pay a fortune to order a salad and plain baked potato because there's nothing else on the menu I can eat. There are only a few vegan restaurants in the town I live in, and the meals there are strange for non vegans. Most of the you-tubers I watch just eat at home all the time, and even when they travel they stay in places where they can cook all their own food. I work hard, and when I go on vacation, I want to go out to eat and have people serve me, not stay in my hotel and heat up rice and beans and frozen veggies! Like I said earlier, I will never eat or wear an animal ever again, but I do understand why some people go back. I had an ice cream cone on my cruise and felt guilty, and that sucks.

I have been a vegetarian for 26 years and tried several times to become vegan but always failed, because of protein. I cannot digest beans and legumes at all. Does not matter how I prepare them. Any tips? Also my daughter does not eat beans and lentils. She does not even try. I would be very grateful for any advice.

Choose higher protein veg (cruciferous + leafies) in general, and opt for the pseudograins over regular grains. That way, you can optimize protein per carbohydrate calorie (ie, instead of having beans + grains, just do pseudograins which are closer to an in between macro profile)

I also don’t think you have to be either or. Of course, WFPB is preferred but if it doesn’t suite your lifestyle then that’s totally fine too. 80-90% WFPB is perfectly fine too.

You can try fermented vegetables like kraut or Kimchee to eat with meals, water kefir and kombucha can help with digestion, drinking a small glass of water with a little apple cider vinegar prior to meals can help. Also, sprouting your lentils and beans make them easier to digest, not sure if you tried that.

How do you suggest I substitute my toddlers morning and evening milk intake? Even Store bought almond or oat or coconut milk has additives. If I make it at home, my toddler can feel the rough texture in her throat (she’s sensitive to good texture), so I’ve really got no where after trying different tactics. She goes through phases where she’s gone from drinking green juice and smoothies to not wanting to eat any greens. As parents of toddlers sometimes if feels like our lives revolve around kids. Pls suggest some workable options

The best option nutritionally would be organic soy milk…it has the most healthy fat, protein and iron. WestSoy has one that’s USDA organic, and only contains soybeans and water. We don’t rely on plant-based milks much, honestly. We get our nutrition from foods instead and use milk just to add to things like oatmeal. Focus instead on health macros from foods like whole grains, beans and legumes as well as lots of healthy fats from nuts, seeds and avocado!

I have familiar high cholesterol, my numbers were so bad on the SAD diet and my iron was low too even though I was eating all of those “iron rich” foods. Went vegetarian off and on and that brought my numbers down a bit, went completely vegetarian when my daughter was 3. Then I went whole food plant based about 8 months ago. My numbers were taken before I made the change and then about 6 months in, and my cholesterol is in the normal range, my iron is in the normal range, AND my hormone numbers evened out. And it kind of started seeing an ad for complement that had you on it, which I clicked and fell down the best rabbit hole possible. Something I’ve been learning about lately, and I’m wondering if Erin has worked with at all, is eating and exercising for each phase of the menstrual cycle.

I think a lot of people are moving away from any kind of restrictive diet - by that I mean any diet with a specific set of rules and things you simply cannot eat if you want to claim you’re following that diet. I think the idea of Intuitive Eating is starting to grow, which I love and I follow, but for many people (like I assume with you guys) it can feel perfectly intuitive to crave only plant-based food because of how it makes you feel and how tasty the food you make is. I think it’s those who are vegan because they assume it’s healthier but they eat the processed stuff because they still crave meat and dairy. And then it doesn’t make them feel any better and it can be more expensive so they give up and give into what their body is telling them it wants. And restricting leads to binging so when they feel so satiated and satisfied after the indulgence, now their opinion completely turns around and they’ll tell anyone who’ll listen how miserable it is to be vegan. This is my theory anyway 🤷🏼‍♀️

If our soil was rich in what it needed, and our plants were farmed the way they should (so all circumstances were perfect), would we still need to supplement on a vegan diet? That’s my biggest barrier. :(. The reason I say this is that a mostly plant-based diet with a small amount of high quality dairy, meat, eggs, and fish will usually cover a need for supplementation.

My hubby is a keto man. Which in turn makes it really hard when I haven’t planned. I’ve been going through the change of life and it was awful every time I ate meat n cheese. So that has made it easier to stick to this time. Lol The body tells me I swear. Question!!!! ? Every time I take oil out of my diet my skin gets dry. I kinda feel like I need the oil. What are your thoughts on that?

My observation and experience is that those who fail have a either non existent or weak “Why” they choose to be Vegan. So the conviction is not solid so at the first or toughest challenge they start to cheat and once one allows cheat moments, it’s almost always the track that derails. So many times I meet new people where in conversation they hear my lifestyle is vegan and most then reply “ Oh I was for a while too” or “ I couldn’t sustain it ……” I usually don’t ask why I just find it pointless unless they ask further questions on how I do stay on this lifestyle.

I took an objective, suck-it-&-see approach & a moderate animal/plant ratio produced far better results (physiological) than a very low animal/plant ratio (9 mo). Clearly not being a herbivore, the 'why' became a moot point, as I'm not sacrificing my health for an atheistic ideology.
@gigih.2169
@gigih.2169 2 жыл бұрын
My 'why' was to be heathy. When my health deteriorated greatly I stopped. I did it all to pull it together and even had my plant based nutrition certification. It's unfair to blanket state that anyone who couldn't sustain it just wasn't trying hard enough. At some point, when all efforts fail, you have to do what's best for your health.

@@gigih.2169 it’s been my experience with coaching people, they automatically go into panic and believe eating plants is the culprit as to why they can’t heal. 9 X out of ten it never is. Most fail to realize the damage didn’t happen over night there was a long road of choosing non health promoting factors. So transitioning to eating more plant based is going to expose just how much the body has to expel the negative choices from years before. Improvements happen quick and then another layer of symptoms can be revealed. It all depends on the level of build up in the body on how long it takes to be revealed that there is more healing need be done. My 17 years of eating plant based has shown me and from watching others transition along the way that there is always healing that happens sometimes subtle other times with a bang. Aloha 🌺

@@giselafiege7169 You are very lucky. Have you read Sally K Norton's Toxic Superfoods? Trust me, for me it was the plants. I lost my gallbladder to incredibly low fat, my uterus to endometriosis from lack of fats and other nutrients. I ended up with 4 iron infusions for lack of iron, and IBS that nearly caused me to lose my job. Fun how basically the week I went meat based and eliminated plants I cured my IBS. It's been several months and I'm the healthiest I've ever been in my life. And I did not start veganism unhealthy. I ate a standard "healthy" diet of fruits, vegs, whole grains and lean meats. I was athletic and of ideal size. I felt miserable on "THE" healthiest diet-veganism, but could not bring myself to see it as the diet. I just figured I had bad genes. And social media has only been available since technology, toilets have only been possible since plumbing, smoothies have only been possible since blenders…we are eating this way because it is optimal for us! Definitely sounds like detox symptoms. When your body is so used to those kinds of foods and you stop the intake abruptly or too quickly, your body will feel depleted. Like they said in the video, find things to replace these foods with and then go SLOWLY. Only have cheese every other day for a week or two, then once or twice a week for another 2 weeks. You have to start training your body to create its own energy from the healthier foods your putting in it instead, as opposed to relying on quick hits of energy from processed junk food. Same rule applies to incorporating raw vegetables and beans & legumes: introduce them slowly and over time to help your gut get accustomed to digesting these things to avoid heavy bloating and flatulence. Hope this helps!

I was even a vegan when I was pregnant, then a couple months after I had my son my family started telling me that I need to have bone broth chicken soup, especially because I was breast-feeding and that my son needed it. So I told myself OK that is all that I’ll have, but then eventually I started eating more meat and I didn’t know where to stop. So every couple weeks I’m trying to get back to eating plant-based, but I have gotten so good at failing because my husband isn’t vegan and no one in my family is. But I continue to watch your videos to remind myself that I need to try to get back, and succeed. I’ve done it before, so I know I can do it.
