Tips for traveling to Nigerian with young children.
Most of the things I said in this video apply to adults too such as yellow fever vaccine, anti-malarial medicine, anti-mosquito spray, light clothing etc.
Anti Mosquito Spray USA. NOTE that it’s hard to find travel size in the USA, you can buy this one and put some in a small (100mls) spray bottle for hand luggage and put the rest in your checked-in box. Link: amzn.to/3qhlP3Z
Cover-Toe Sandals: amzn.to/45CYkm0
Yellow fever vaccine can be given to kids from 9 months old.
Yellow fever Advisory for Nigeria: wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/...
Fill and download this Health Declaration form for all family members before traveling to Nigeria: healthapp.ncdc.gov.ng/health-...
Bring Naira notes if you have them. They have started accepting the old N200, N500 and N1,000 notes again till December 2023.

I will refer to this video and watch again whenever I’m traveling back home with my children! These tips will be super helpful. That was how I traveled to China with my toddler and I didn’t know that China was very hot at that time! By the time we arrived my baby was having high temperature because of the excess clothing on her😢 I was held back at the airport for a while because they needed to be sure it was not a serious fever! It’s always good to do enough research before traveling with kids.

If you have NIN you can get your own SIM when you come in. Else a friend or family member that has NIN can register one on your behalf. Afterwards loading Internet data on it is easy. Internet access is ok in Nigeria but it's not unlimited with fixed monthly payments like we have abroad.

Great video Flo. The only time I have ever been to Nigeria was July 2009. I never saw one mosquito there. The weather was not hot at all because it was July. We did take the anti-malaria medicine but, it never made us feel sick at all. We are on our way to Ghana now !!!

I learnt my lesson in 2011 when I travelled with my 2 children. My daughter was 6, and my son was just 9 months old 😢 even though we went prepared. Hmmm, our money vanished on buying ⛽️ 😮 I could remember ragolis water was 7 hundred naira, at a point i started giving them pure water and when we came back they were both pooing blood and we ended in hospital for 2 weeks 🥺 doctors said they drank water full of bacteria 🙃 we planned to stay 3 months but ended up staying 2 months... 2016, we travelled even more prepared than before 😅they took vaccines and a lot of drugs . It's been 7 years since we last travelled
@FloChinyere
@FloChinyere Жыл бұрын
That's a great point to note about the water they drink. Nne eh, that pure water one, we've just been lucky because with these kids, if you like provide all the bottled and dispenser water in the world, they must go for that pure water because it's fun for them to drink. I tried shielding Kamsi from it the first time he travelled but whosai?! Nnedi nko? that one no dey hear "don't touch this" when she was a baby, I even caught her drinking from water tanks sometimes I just gave up! We just ensure we buy pure water from reputable companies that also make bottled and dispenser water and so far, we've been lucky. Glad you all survived that experience.

Thank YOU all these tips I am going to use, they are very helpful especially ensuring the there is a nearby children's hospital, this is so important. Another question. How do we bypass or avoid so much of the soliciting and hagaling that goes on at the Lagos airport when we land? Also, You mentioned carrying Naira, but would it be easier to carry USD? just to avoid any extra movement Im going with 3 kids ages 4,3 and 6 months. thank you! I appreciate you!

@FloChinyere Жыл бұрын
I've never experienced any haggling on arrival. The only payment happening there is when you pay for trolleys and those have fixed prices as I mentioned in the video. So no need to haggle. If by soliciting, you mean those begging for money, you can't avoid it. Theirs is to beg and yours is to give if you want to or not give if you don't want to. 😅 If you have only foreign currency, they accept the major currencies: $, £ and € for trolley payment. Just come with low denomination bills like $5, £5, €5 bills because they won't give you change if you pay in foreign currency.

@FloChinyere
@FloChinyere Жыл бұрын
If you can get Nigerian passports for your kids better. Else you need to get a visa on their foreign passports and on arrival in Nigeria, they need to join the queue for foreigners for the health checks and immigration. And maybe yellow fever vaccination will be compulsory for them. I'm not 100% on this last one. These are the only differences to all I said in the video.
