About color palettes: When you start, don't try to master everything the color wheel have to offer. Focus on *analogous* colors. That's what's shown in the video. The simple rule is that *once you choose a base color the shadow go toward "cold" colors, and highlight goes toward "warm" colors* . It's a simple enough rule to get started, then it's up to you to build your artistic sense.

I downloaded piskel and used it like you suggested, and it's almost perfect for what I needed. It was also free. The controls are pretty simple and intuitive with enough options to do what I want, but no unnecessary clutter from tons of options I don't need. I really appreciate not having to dig through 400 different options to find the 10 I need. I am going to use this to make sprites for RPG Maker MV, and you can import the sprite sheets and such right into the program, and it already knows how big they should be. That is so convenient. I loved the self updating color pallet, and the built in animation functions are great. The only things that annoyed me so far, were the fact that you can't flip a selection (horizontally or vertically) without flipping the entire layer. I found a work around for this, by just making a special FLIP layer that I can copy and past things into for flipping. (it's a pain, but it works.) Another thing is I wish that the alpha brush (to erase things) was right next to the color selector instead of inside of it. (or in addition to inside). Going into the color thingy to pick the erase is annoying. As is clicking on the erase button every time. Also it should switch back to your pencil after selecting the color in some easy way. Just minor gripes about the interface being a bit clunky. But overall, I'm very satisfied and this is exactly what I needed at the price I can afford.

To anyone who is wanting to become an indie game developer: *Good luck!* I'm thinking about making a game aswell, however I think it'd just be a side thing. I've been doing normal art for a few years but I think it'd be a lot easier to do pixel art instead of normal art. I'm also gonna have to learn how to code which is gonna suck, but hey, if I can at least try, you can probably do it! :)
@Shikigami64 жыл бұрын
If you go with Unreal Engine + Blueprints you won't need to code except you are going for some completely groundbreaking mechanics. Just drag and drop stuff. But there is the possibility to write your own physics and such in C++ but as I said, I don't really think it is necessary except for the own ego.
