Not a drugstore product but a kitchen staple: Corn starch. We always recommend it for a great oil absorption "tonic" on hair that seems too oily or greasy or flat. Immerse fingertips in it, then dust throughout roots or length -- wherever you need more fluff or separation. Let it sit a few minutes, then either leave it in or dust it off with a towel. It vastly outperforms dry shampoos and probably costs less than one cent per use. Gives you days more mileage out of a shampoo/blow dry.
@kathrynnielson56892 жыл бұрын
I have also found corn starch to be superior to dry shampoo. And loads cheaper!

I have found the most effective dry shampoos that I have tried actually utilize corn starch. Cornstarch is wonderful for helping add additional body to hair, as well, especially if your hair needs that bit of extra texture to hold a style right after washing, which can be a problem with really fine hair. I have used straight corn starch myself, so I can verify that it works! Be careful not to use too much, because it can make your hair look either dirty or just off, somehow. A blow dryer will help rid your hair of the excess corn starch.

Nikol: I'm 60 with grey hair and have decided to grow it out. I went through your video and purchased all the products to learn for the first time how to properly take care of your hair. I loved the charcoal detox product and could tell immediately by the suds that I was getting a different type of clean on my scalp and hair. I followed up with the Hask Blue shampoo and finished with the hair mask. I saw immediate results when drying my hair, definitely more bounce and fullness... I didn't know products could do that. The oil mist and never stray hairspray really topped off everything in a nice way. You're right... these products work - can't wait to try the other items:) Thank you!!!

I have been using the Loreal Wonder Water for over a year. I'm 54, have short (like you) bobbish no-colored hair. Almost three years ago I decided to stop highlighting my hair, so happy I did. I LOVE this product. I use it maybe once a week but only wash it twice a week anyway. My hair is so smooth and soft. I have fairly course, curly hair and this is far and away one of the best products I have EVER found.

try silica - food grade diatomaceous earth is very high in it (tastes a bit like muddy water but doable - it should be fresh water DE and be white, not colored they say). I have taken it and about to do it again.

When I was going through cancer treatment my hair thinned a lot. My oncologist prescribed me a supplement and it thickened a lot. So I do believe that beautiful skin and thicker hair has a lot to do with what we eat and supplement as well. The products are the cherry on the pie, in my experience. I live in Brazil, I got Exímia Fortalize Kera D. It's got A, C, D, E, complete B complex, super high dose of Zinc, magnesium, Iron and aminoacids. I didn't believe it at first but it worked! It never got as beautiful as before cancer treatment but still, I have nice long hair now.

A Hask product saved my hair back in the 80s. I got a perm that severely damaged my hair and scalp. At that time I was in college and I worked part time at a high-end drugstore. I tried every single product available in an attempt to save my hair. The only thing that saved and repaired my damaged hair was a product from Hask. They don't make it anymore but it was in a purple tube and it was a deep conditioner that you could leave on your hair and not rinse out. It was not sticky or greasy, and it made my hair look healthy and kept it from breaking off and falling out. Hask is completely underrated. I love all their products!

Thanks for giving us a range of products from the drugstore which are "ingredient free" alternatives to salon products, especially; alcohol-free, sulfate-free, and silicone-free, it is difficult to find certain "ingredient-free" products even in higher-end end products, and when you do, they are outrageously expensive. What a breath of fresh air to see someone who has similar hair concerns that a lot of the younger you-tubers have no idea of how to tackle (no fault of theirs, they just haven't got here yet). Love this video, thank you. I spent about 2 years of not colouring my hair only to go and get my hair coloured and I feel like I made a mistake. So, it's back to the drawing board, I'm getting my hair cut and will go back to growing my hair out to it's natural colour..luckily my hair grows pretty fast so it shouldn't take too long.

I chose to gradually go Gray about 12 years ago. Hair stylist understood the gradual road I wanted to take by blending and use my gray as part of the process. We started with 3 color weaves. After about 10 months, 2 color weave. Then a little more than a year 1 color until I was done. No line grow out. LOTS of compliments over the years. Best decision I ever made.

As I’m watching this, I’m remembering how I used to use a Wella deep scalp & hair conditioner, ( that I don’t think they make anymore) like once a month or so and how much better my scalp felt and how luxurious it made my hair. This was decades ago...I’m 64 and post-meno and EVERYTHING about my body is so much drier....so why am I wondering why my scalp feels itchy a lot? Because it needs a good scalp cleansing and moisturizing! Duh!? Thanks!

I love Aussie Moist Shampoo and 5 Minute Miracle Moisturizer/ Conditioner. The best oil is Garnier Fructise. It's not heavy, and leaves your hair shiny and silky. I had double processed bleach blonde hair and it was a hair saver, on a great price. Unfortunately, I couldn't afford to keep up the expense of bleaching since my car accident. I tried every Shampoo and Conditioner out there, especially High End! Forget High End! I'm a Cosmetologist and I can't stand High End! Does nothing for double processed bleached blonde hair! Nikol, you are absolutely beautiful. I am 78 years old and my hair is mousy grey, dark in the back. I don't like it, but I don't know what to do with it. I don't think it will turn white. I sure wish you were in Baltimore and I could have a consultation with you. I don't feel good about myself. Here I was 50 and now suddenly I'm 78. Could you help me. I'd appreciate it. Thanks for all your wonderful podcasts - you're so real, so lovely, also very kind!!! Lynn

Color WOW is the best product i have ever used. spray wet hair then blow dry and OMG, luxurious silky hair, and since my hair is wavy, it straightens it out.

unrelated to the products themselves: I actually enjoyed watching your hands rinsing your hair - that for some weird reason is soothing and very 'real' of you to add to your tutorial. I love your content and your presentation. :)

To fix my flyaways, I use littlexttraa neatfix hair finishing stick. packed with rosemary and fenugreek, which are great for hair growth. It quickly tames my messy hair and baby hairs. I always keep it in my purse.

What product would you recommend for keeping a flat iron from burning the ends of your hair? Thanks for any response. - Susan Burns

Thank you. Only thing with some of those products is coconut oil. I break out easily and if i use anything with that in it, my face, back and chest break out. 🤨

Nikol, have you tried the Wonder Water yet? If so, would you do a review? I bought it, and in my morning rush, forgot it was a rinse out product. I used it on one side of my head prior to blowing dry to compare with my Paul Mitchell Super Skinny serum on the other side. As I dried my hair, I thought I had somehow gotten Christmas tinsel in my hair. The metallic shine on a stray gray hair was crazy! Also tried it as a rinse out, but am going back to my "mistake".

How I envy the need for anti-frizz products! Thin, fine, mousey blonde hair that just gets darker is the worst. I am 72 and have fought for volume all my life. I thought that going gray would be a bonus, but it is not to be. Back in the day I would tease my hair or get perms, which only lasted less than a month. Count your blessings if you have thick hair.

You have the most beautiful hair. I definitely have hair envy. I'm 66 and mine is thin and very fine. It's hard to find products that don't weigh it down. I sure want to try the scalp treatment. Thank you for all the information.

Regarding the 1st step detox: peppermint oil and tea tree oil are quite stinging. I wouldn’t apply it to irritated or sensitive scalp. Can be applied if it itches because of sweat for instance, if you have no irritation or open wounds.
