1:00 A brand is how much extra I am paying above my substitute. If I’m not paying extra, I don’t have a brand. 6:10 Culture defeats everything. 7:00 Human beings make decisions based on the status of who is going up and who is going down, and what that means to us (“us” a certain group of people). 8:17 Don’t do it cause you’re making a living. Make a living cause you’re doing it. 16:50 Nike vs Hyatt 17:25 A brand is a promise to people, a short-hand, an expectation. They should ask themselves: “what should I expect the next time?” 22:00 As a Marketer, you have to have empathy for the people you are willing to serve. 27:00 The medium can change, but the mission will remain consistent. People don’t think what they want, they think what they dream of. 32:10 Now, everything is a click away, you can sell anything you want. But you don’t come at the customer anymore, let them come at you. 31:40 You don’t market at them anymore, you market with them. 32:50 Everyone is not the goal, someone is the goal. 42:30 As a Marketer, you have to willingly dance with the tension a customer feels before actually taking an action.

I had my public relations consulting business in Hotlanta when Seth was at Coke USA. I really resonate with his anti-infinity stance, and his idea about being some-truistic rather than altruistic. It feels much more aligned with sanity and balance to set to serve a small dedicated group of people (of whatever kind), rather than aiming for "a billion followers", or customers or whatever. Plus, you are more likely to keep reiterating for quality that way, as you get continuous feedback from the customers that you are intimately connected to. And so, interestingly, are more poised for sustainable success in the long run... Thanks, Behind the Brand! And thanks, Seth!

They often know what problems they face and what they desire, but they struggle to find solutions or optimize existing ones. Has Seth ever read Eugene Schwartz's "Breakthrough Advertising"? In it he talks about levels of market sophistication. Level 5 being identity. Seth's advice applies to mature markets and businesses. Always consider the context of the advice rather than take it at face value.

I love the approach of focusing on the VALUE, the people and what we can do to make their life better, so they decide to choose our brand, instead of another! So powerful! 🙏

I agree. Putting your value out there is the way to stand out.

This is a video I put it in watch later, today I finally watch over it. It's a good idea to just be true to some people 💗--" What's in here? " I'm a person only could be who I am and think more for others.

Good conversation. Hilarious hearing them talk about Nike from today’s perspective. Godin is the man though.

Correct me if I`m wrong,but understanding the nuances of brand analytics is a MUST! Reputation House, with its expertise in brand analytics, would probably appreciate Seth Godin's insights on branding and direct marketing.

Thank you for this! Seth has such a beautiful way of thinking and it was just what I needed to hear. "Keep true" and "empathy" is some of what I take with me from this. 😊 Best, Simon.

@@BehindtheBrand I wrote down some helpful notes. One thing that really strikes me was the difference between a brand and a logo. Brand - people know you because....?

thanks so much Elijah! what was one of your key take aways?
@elijahsoltan34834 жыл бұрын
@@BehindtheBrand He explained the difference between branding & logos as expectations, or promises. As well, the concept of better not more. Both of these concepts relate to his thesis of finding your audience and serving them, and it doesn't matter the size. The relationship between your customers and your product is special, not the money you make.
