Qroo Paul - we are so grateful for your many helpful videos! This video was particularly helpful as my husband and I applied for our spots in line and as I prepared for my RFC appointment yesterday in San Miguel de Allende. Apparently, the process changed JUST YESTERDAY and what took 40 minutes to process on Thursday took 4 hours to process yesterday (your words "consistently inconsistent" floated through my mind multiple times). I thought I would share what SAT asked of me yesterday in the order they asked for paperwork in case it may help others: 1) copy of my appointment (this also helped with the check in process since my Spanish is limited), 2) copy of my CURP, 3) the latest original CFE bill from our rental house AND luckily I also grabbed our latest original SAPASMA bill, because the CFE bill address was not in their system - but the SAPASMA bill was, 4) a form provided at the appointment that had to be filled in ink (bring a pen!) with a lot of info - like how many stories our house is and what color is it (thank you Google Translate and a very helpful facilitator there with her own clients), 5) my passport (which they just glanced at), and 6) my residency card. A flash drive was only needed if I had a business (maybe that was one of the new rules? If I did this again (God forbid), I would bring one anyway in case rules change again). The poor SAT people were working as fast as they possibly could and stayed until the last person of the day made it through (me!) - I finally finished at 7:30 pm.... with a 3:30pm appointment. The SAT people were kind, helpful, and patient - even after a very very long (and I am sure, frustrating) day.

I made an appointment in July and I watched my number in line move up. SAT emailed me my date and time and I confirmed..... I showed up (with a flash drive)and got my RFC number..! I then went to CFE office with papers in hand.... CFE woman behind the Glass window looked at me like I was from another planet wanting to connect my RFC number to my CFE bill !! After about 20 minuets of back and forth head shaking and another level of supervisor , I left and figured I tackle it another day. I'm not selling my house anytime soon but at least I have an RFC number now.. Paul is correct, the only thing consistent is INCONSISTENCY.. but I knew that from owning here since 2004. Thanks Paul

Thanks so much for all of your informative videos. We set-up our virtual appointment on June 22nd, received an email on Nov 15th advising we both have appointments on Nov 23rd. We arrived 30 minutes prior to our appointments as instructed in the email. The Cabo San Lucas SAT office would only allow the person an appointment in the office. The hubby was called into the office five minutes after his appointment time and I was called in the office five minutes early from my appointment time. The SAT employee spoke pretty good English which was very helpful for both of us. She processed my husband then said she would process me since she already had all of his information. I asked her..."do you need this USB thumb drive?" She said "no, since you are not working or making any money in Mexico I do not need to use it." After watching this video I realize that she did not collect any biometric scans of our eyes nor did she take our finger prints. We both were given paperwork that shows our RFC # and the "Contancia de Situacion Fiscal". The one thing we have learned in the last 16 years of living in Mexico is "they are not consistent". Paul, have you heard about this or has it happened to anyone else?

THIS IS SUPER IMPORTANT: We got turned away from our appointment as we had not clicked the "Confirmar" tick box. Beware it is ticked already and is not a button, but you apparently have to click it anyway - bad web design practice but it is Mexico. Then we couldn't reapply for an appointment for 30 calendar says.

Thanks again for the super helpful videos - I've been "Mexico-ing" since 1997, I'm fluent, and have spent time in many parts of the country, but I still find your videos very helpful, informative and concise. One thing you might want to mention is that when you do get an appointment, you are notified via email, and are required to confirm the appointment that you have been given within 24 hrs. Instructions in the email are pretty clear, but easy to miss for people who are not fluent (it happened to a friend). At least this is the case in Oaxaca, and I assume it's similar elsewhere too.

That is a good thing to mention because I lost my appointment because I didn't bother to read that part. Did your friend get another appointment? When I tried the gov website says I can't schedule one for another 30 days. Oh, yeah, I'm frustrated.

You can go to 10 different banks in Mexico to open a new bank account without an RFC. Half will open a new account for you and maybe the other half may give you some lectures about RFC but also open. In Mexico anything goes. They make up the rules as they go along.

I had picked the 1st choice like on the previous video, and luckily they didn't turn me away at the Guadalajara 2 office on 8-31-22. When the rep finished processing the RFC info on the computer, she asked is there any thing else she could help me with. I then asked her if I could apply for the Constancia de Situacion and she said yes. She typed some more things on the computer which took only a few minutes and gave me a printout of my RFC and my Constancia de Situacion. I had to wait a little as they were verifying my ID and proof of address. I originally was about 7K in the virtual line and took about 2.5 months for for the appointment. I wonder if picking the 3rd option would have assigned a me to a smaller virtual line group with less wait time. I really appreciate your videos. Thank you Mr. Q Roo Paul for your help as it made this process pretty easy for me.

I had to do it twice because I forgot to turn off my VPN and couldn't receive email with token. The 5 minute count down is a bit short. Can cause anxiety. Thanks again.

Follow up with my experienced applying for RFC. This comment only refers to my experience with the SAT office in (San Francisco de ) Campeche. My appointment was for 9a. I arrive at 8:40A. There were two long lines at the entrance. I inquired with a person in line as to what to do for a 9a appointment. He directed me to check with the guard inside. The guard directed me to a line for appointment holders. At 0903 the guard told 9a appointments to enter. I stood in line for a document check. (*Note: in lieu of a CFE bill I used my cable providers online monthly billing that has my address. My CFE bill has a contradictory address. 0910 my documents were approved and I was handed a slip indicating the information I would need to supply to the intake clerk and a number for the electronic call board. 0935 I advanced to the intake clerk. The information I had to provided was very detailed...Even the color of the building I live in. I provided my passport, residente permanente card , curp, MX drivers license, and cable provider bill, There was confusion as to the the streets (Entrada) My street is in between. Much signing of forms. At the completion of this phase I was instructed to return to the waiting area to be called for physical authentication. A five minute wait ensued and I was summoned to be fingerprinted, photographed and eye scanned. Total time 1hr 25min

Currently, as of mid-April 2024, the email with my assigned appointment was received about a month later confirming my appointment in about 5 days ****IMPORTANT NOTE: the email comes from the email address "filavirtual" and MUST be responded to within 24 hours or the appointment is automatically cancelled and you have only one more opportunity to request a new appointment. I hope to update after my appointment in a few days.

Paul, I thought I didn't have an RFC, but when I tried to schedule to get one, it locked onto my CURB and said I did have one. I must have clicked 20 times on the robot saying I'm not a robot (this irony never escapes my humor) when I tried to get my RFC. I had a fake one on my fideicomiso (I hope I'm dead when someone else has to deal with that). But the attorney or accountant working on my fideicomiso in 2019 must have applied for it. I never got the token so now I'm paying a high-end accountant MX$150 to get the token. Thanks for your video. Now I'll try to get it onto my CFE bill before I need it.

Hey. Thank you very much for these videos. Used the RFC one to book our appointment and get in the queue. The only thing is that when Mexico confirms your appointment you have to log in to the site again and confirm your appointment. We did go online and thought we confirmed but apparently not since we went to the office but they said we had not confirmed even though it looked we had. Wondering if you might want to update the video to include the confirmation process as I am sure this is throwing other people off. Thanks again for the videos. UPDATE: Went back the next day to get some info, apparently you have to click on the checkmark it will pop up a PDF which you need to bring with you this confirms your appointment. Same thing happened to me yesterday, they said I wasn't confirmed even though I had a check mark saying confirmed. They told me to go back in the virtual line and start again. Virtual line says you can't apply for 30 days...very confusing.

I was originally in the Personal virtual line at the Cabo San Lucas SAT office. In July I dropped in to the SAT office, without an appointment, and was told I was in the wrong line ( because I was a foreigner). They put me in the Casos Especialos virtual line but said “don’t worry, it’s shorter and moves faster”. That may be true but based on progress to date I might get an actual appointment in March/April 2023.

Just got back from the SAT office in Playa Del Carmen. I had an appointment for the RFC and all paperwork specified. However, I was turned away because I did not bring a copy of an email from the SAT office which I never received. I actually let the clerk review all of my emails to find this mysterious email with the form, which appeared to only specify what to bring to the SAT office. As you say, inconsistencies are the only consistencies.

I've had an RFC for years but didn't have an e.firma. I made an appointment with SAT on a Monday, was assigned to a fila virtual and the next Friday received an email asking me to confirm my physical appointment for the following Monday. So, one week total. BTW, if going to SAT to obtain your e.firma, you can save a step at the SAT office by downloading the required files to a blank usb drive from a computer at home. SAT then uses those files to create a .cer (certificate) file that they add to the .req and .key files that you previously downloaded at home to your usb drive.

Hello. I am in the state of Durango. And here you do not make an appointment online. You do either a walk in on a special day once a week (I think it was Friday) or try your luck appearing early in the morning on any day of the week and setting up an appointment for later. Anyway, I do everything paperwork oriented through a Mexican lawyer I really like: he is nice, effective, knowledgeable, and his pricing is exceptionally reasonable. So he has already made the appointment, will be there present with me, does as much of the paperwork as he can beforehand, provides a translator, and tells me that I will have my RFC in hand at the end of that appointment. His cost: around $100.00 total. But for most things paperwork oriented I use him, and he cuts out a lot of the running around I would otherwise end up doing. I will say, I tried entering the SAT office alone about 3 months after you did this video, and in Durango they told me I did not quality for an RFC, and I did not need one anyway. Time to get my lawyer! Well he made short work of that and has already submitted quite a bit of the paperwork, and I have an appointment. Anyway, I am happy.

What about those of us without a permanent address? We travel in/out/around the country, with no fixed address. Was told we need our lease/bill/etc. We spend about 4-6ish months and have our Temp Residency. On the day of your appointment, you will need to take the following to the SAT office: • Valid passport and a copy of the portrait page(s) • Valid Mexico residency card (temporary or permanent) • Comprobante de domicilio (Proof of address such as a bank statement, electricity bill or rental contract) • Printout of your CURP, which can be downloaded HERE. • USB thumbdrive that will be used to download/save your firma digital It is important not to forget this! • You must bring a printed copy of all of the documents listed above.

I applied for my RFC in May. At the time there were more than 600 other applicants in the virtual queue. Now I am #197! SAT made great progress last week and I advanced 34 positions, so at that rate I should have an appointment in six weeks or so.

I got on the Special Cases Queue for Mexico City Central office on Sunday and they assigned me an appointment on Tuesday for the following week. My only question is though, at the end of the email it says "¡No necesitas acudir a nuestras oficinas - CitaSAT a tu alcance " You do not need to come to our offices! - CitaSAT at your fingertips - They just mean in general right???? After a few months waiting in the fila virtual, we finally went to SAT office in Merida, waited 4 hours and were told that we HAD to have a work permit to get an RFC. We are Residente Permanente for the past 4 years and property owners. We have heard that others have been rejected for not having a work permit. Has anyone here had this experience?. The work permit is no longer required. I am in Merida, Yucatan. It used to be required when you commented but that is no longer the case (12\1). Yucatan state is known to be exasperatingly officious and exacting in its requirements for all dealings with the government. It is why some residents go to neighboring states Campeche or Quintana Roo when dealing with govt entities.

I just returned from Mexico processing my Temporary Residency, but left with my preview card only and a permiso de salida, I have to fly back in a few weeks to get the card. Having laid that out, I went on the RFC site to see about getting an appointment while back there, but the site indicated I had an invalid curp number, so I went on curp search and entered my name and info, the search site found my information, but I discovered the curps didn't match, the last digit was different from my temp card. Has anyone encountered this, and if so, what was the recourse to fix it. Thanks for any info anyone can provide.

I have an appointment in Cabo and have been waiting since June. Can I go to a Mexican consulate office in the US and obtain my RFC quicker? I bought land and want to make sure I can pay any fees that are coming up.

I made my appointment three months ago and am waiting in the virtual line in Guanajuato, Mexico! Thank you for your initial video on how to do that and to check my place in line! I am currently 625 out of 1550 in line, as they seem to be only capable of processing about 20 per week, or four per day. So my estimated appointment time is sometime around March 2023. Just frustrating!

I thought so too, but I was in the 1500s-1600s for about two months (From late April 2022 when I got in). Then the line started accelerating very fast in the third month. Then on August 4, I got an email for an appointment for August 12. Perhaps people forget after a while and do not respond to appointments , or cannot make the date they have chosen for them.

Is there a way to check if I have already have an RFC other than the CFE, as mine is not in my name? And if I have bank a Mexican bank account and a curp, I am a permanent resident, with no plans to ever buy a car or property, and live on a fixed modest income. Will I still need an RFC? and what exactly are the penalties if I don't have one? If I'm required to get one by what date. Thank you

I got a Cisco membership and they requested my RFC. I had just gotten it. It took 5 months to get the appointment in San Miguel de Allende.

Hi Paul, we went for Roup's RFC the other day and I brought the gas bill in my name with our address. Not good enough. They wanted water or electric. I told her those bills were not in our names yet and she said it did not matter. Didn't have it with me, but that makes no sense to me. What good does having an electric bill in someone else's name serve? Have you heard of this? That was in the PDC office. My appt is for the 23rd, so we'll see what happens with me. wondering if anyone else got this story from them.
