Daniel Fisher, Sweetwater’s synthesis scholar, gets to relive an old favorite synth with Behringer's latest iconic synthesis revival: the PRO-1. Taking cues from one the most influential monophonic synths of the 1980s, the PRO-1 boasts a dual-oscillator, analog architecture that’s raring to rip up the airwaves with mammoth basses and scorching leads. But the question remains: does it live up to its legacy inspiration? Watch Daniel Fisher put it through its paces to find out!

Such a PHAT sounding synth. It's an absolute must have even if you own the pro-800, this thing goes LOW. Thanks Mr Fisher for this amazing demo!

I had one back in the early 80’s… loved it and stupidly sold it in the late 90’s. Missed it ever since. Got a Behringer clone coming this week. Can’t wait (even though my current main synth is a Korg Wavestate).

This was one of the first Behringer synths I got, and you're right! It's a fantastic bass synth. For the past year or so, I've had mine controlled by bass pedals. That really makes a difference. I was going to get the Toro, but this is a much more complete synth and has more bass fullness than the Toro.

i wanted the Toro as well, but for the same price can get something leagues beyond what the Toro can do. if the Toro was $150, I prolly would have gotten it, but the price point makes no sense... I'm sure it's making no cents as well

👍Thanks for the listening. I'm always about the music I can create with an instrument. This is not so easy to listen, because every player have his proper story, conception ans style using differently the same instrument. This is certainly the first time B Pro One is played with your proper history like you did with the 2600 if I remember. More than technical things, it's your universe around. I have a Juno 6, and I can examine how my way to play this synth, is different from what I listen on the same on YT channels. Hours of the same few melodies, never the same variation, a passionate play garden. What talking to me here, is the filter section, the semi modular thing and this fat sound, meaning you can do lot of things having two or more Pro One in parallel. Would love to listen long developing formant sounds, I'm not interested in rhythmic clearly. Love midi, using a old Roland MC 500, for midi tracks, and computers too, so greatest thing that we can multiplie our play with that Pro 1 having midi ability. About Knobs, this becomes a pleasure to have no memory and only knobs, sliders and co, doing visibly what they are doing. My Deepmind 12 is sometimes boring having to move the slider before knowing where it is. Can understand presets and polyphony are great, but that's what is pretty to seeeee your music in front of you😎👌

Oddly good timing as I was just considering looking into a Prophet style mono synth while the Moog Minitaur is out of stock. Already have a K-2 (as well as a Korg MS-20 mini), so I've been wondering if the two Behringers, while different, have too close of a bass tone to deem adding the Pro-1 over the Dave Smith AS-1 with its onboard effects and ability to save presets.

I wish i had access to this video when i briefly had the Pro-1. I didn't get it to sound anywhere close to this level of hugeness. I'm not really a synth player, and this just demonstrates the difference expertise makes. I will have to try again in the future.

@@odmusicman Well, it was an easy admission for me. Plus, it's not as if i completely abandoned it. I just pivoted to the Pro-800 as i thought it would be more versatile for what i need at the moment. I'll get back to it, though.

I still don't really understand how behringer still gets away with making an entire business that evolves around ripping off other brands
@BaddaBigBoom
@BaddaBigBoom 8 ай бұрын
It's not "ripping off" if those products are no longer available new. Various modern car manufacturers have brought out modern homages to the originals, do you see that as "ripping off" too. Perhaps you're salty because you forked out hundreds of $ for original instruments on the second hand market before Behringer effectively cloned them?

How can it be a rip off when the synth is no loner in production. Add to that some manufacturers who used to make certain synths that went out of production only suddenly make reissues after Behringer came out with their synth.
@tidbit5
@tidbit5 6 ай бұрын
@@PeresD if the Beatles lost the rights to their music because enough time past, would it be a knock off if I remade all their albums and sold them as my own? You logic suggests it wouldn’t because they are no longer a band and don’t have rights, but I would shave still copied it
@PeresD
@PeresD 6 ай бұрын
@@tidbit5 Do you know that Rolex copied Omega and Omega copied Rolex. They aren't making knockoffs, to say so would imply that they're passing their synths off as the original article, which they aren't. Some people, I guess are weirdly irritated that Behringer has democratized the owning of synths. And has made them affordable for the average Joe. This shows that they don't have to be so expensive in the first place. Long live Uli Behringer.

@@ozgur_yildirim it is probably better than the original Sequential Circuits Pro-One. All those old circuit designs now can use excellent components in a modern device, better tolerances and much lower internal noise, etc etc., especially if it is the same circuit designs as originally used. it is like comparing the audio quality of the latest iphone to an old folding flip phone.

Great, so you can make farting noises and arpgeggios. So what. At least it is Behringer, so it is priced moderately at only $299. The power supply is 12V 1A. That is a lot of power just for a modular synth. It should run from USB-C power! Just say No to more big power bricks.
