After 6 years in the Army, I'm finally dropping that volunteer statement. I am tired of being a part of a group where people don't want to be there and consistently do the bare minimum to get by. Every time I have had the privilege of doing some training with the group guys, I was shocked at how all they care about is getting better at their job and bringing up those around them.

It’s probably due to the fact that when your conventional forces, you realize your never going to implement your training because your never gonna a do what your actually training for, a lot of the training is just to check the box not about learning something, you get held to the same standards of SF without any of the SF missions or budget, in the end most jobs are pretty lame unless your are SF.. the end

Earning the right to wear my beret was without a doubt one of the greatest honors of my life and my dream come true. It was a dream that started when I was 7 or 8 years old. I was living in a trailer park in a very small town in no where Utah (Grantsville). It was the early 1970's and I hear the song the "The Ballad of the Green Berets". I was hooked. I told everyone that is what I was going to do and I did it. I remember once after getting settled in at Ft. Campbell. My wife and I were walking into the px. As we were walking in we passed a couple officers that I saluted. They moved out of my way as we were walking. My wife who knew very little about the military asked if they were officers. I told her yes and she asked why they moved out of our way like they did. All I said said was that it was respect. I felt like a real stud that day when my wife saw what it ment to be a Green Beret. I married her when I was in language school. She was from Idaho and was from a well to do family. She knew almost nothing about the military. She spent a few months with me at Bragg and started picking up on a few things. I think this was the moment she figured out what it ment. Being in Special Forces was one of the greatest honors of my life. I worked with some of the greatest men a person could ever want to be around. My only regret was that I had to leave that group but that time will come for everyone. But the honor of being a Green Beret lives forever.

This is definitely a good topic and a few people have talked about it. One thing that I think is often overlooked when its talked about is that even though you are in the guard, roughly that first two years will be spent at training. So you have to be in a position in your personal life that allows for that time away regardless. I know two SF guard guys, both are awesome dudes, and both love the job.

As always, I appreciate the honesty behind saying the team is built on the shoulders of a small group of people that are all very important, with each person having that much more responsibility because of that small team in such a demanding environment. Part of the process in reaching that goal when you're on that team is proving to yourself that you're worthy of being there, for those feeling inadequate like myself. That's a big part of my drive and I'm glad I'm not alone. Thanks for keeping it real, boss, here's to one day doing my own circuit through local stores with my new green beret :)

@chrisawesome30913 жыл бұрын

@KeepMovingForwardAlways9833 жыл бұрын
Based off the information given on line l think it depends on the region that specific SF group is attached to. We are not currently in a war so I believe most SF groups are in other places around the word helping combat drug cartels at the border along with Delta units. But I’m pretty sure a decent amount of SF groups are still in Stan, Iraq and even Syria and other places that are still in great conflict. But there are many groups of SF units from 1st SF down to national guard SF 19th & 20th group. Hope that helps out a bit if buck doesn’t get a chance to answer but he would know better and more in depth about this.
