I took my son out from public school. The teacher called him idiot. I couldn't stand that. And i home schooled and he finished his matric on his own. And i love the fact that it was christian based and taught him Christian principles building his character.

The problem for me is not registering my son. The problem lies in the fact that the DBE are not equipped to process the applications timeously. I waited years to be processed. I really don't see how the government can jail people for their own inadequacies. I think my twelve-year-old has more between his ears than many people getting salaries for making unrealistic laws

With regards to Home Schooling, the bill unfortunately assumes that the government's curriculum is the best one for each child, and this is grossly false and won't be in the best interest of all children. The government is already struggling with a shortage of skilled maths and science teachers even though the system produces more than enough teachers, so what's happening there? There many vacant teacher positions nation wide right now! Must parents happily send their kids to this mess and hope for the best? The craziest part, the Gauteng government has just cut the basic education budget by over R4billion for the 2024/2025 financial year, at the same time, the Bela bill makes Grade R compulsory, which has been reported to require an additional R12Billion! Some of the clauses should not been included at this time, at least not until the government has the capacity/resources to implement these other clauses in the bill.

This Bill will require more staff etc… but other news reports are saying that the budget can’t carry teachers salaries and so there will be retrenchments. This is plan crazy … First fix the schools that can’t function with the present requirements before adding the demands of the Bela Bill.

Ppl get what they voted for. The Anc brought twice the votes to the Gnu - the Da is thus the weaker link + both have to protect each other + adhere to their agreement. Mbulala this wk said, it was a mistake to kick Eff leaders out as their youth league in 2016. Horse trading will thus get worse. The Da will just have to get more creative. Home schooling can bring the education budget down significantly - but administering it may be too difficult for incompetent deployed cadres + will turn into a nightmare for parents. Theres also court action to delay implementing this Bela law for a few yrs. Gov seems to love overcrowding the courts, for all the wrong reasons, but orders are orders, especcially with SAs enormous debt to western banks - it already amounts to more tham 70% of our GDP. We also should not take our eyes of the ball - with outrage against Bela + Nhi bills, in tandem with cleaning up the cartels, the recommendations from the zondo commision can easily be swept under the carpet.

The fact remains that the ANC is not the ruling party, so there's no the people get what they voted for! The ANC must stop thinking they are the ruling party by wanting to be in charge of everything and forget they have to consult the other parties. That BILL was drafted under Angie's term and was presented to parliament before elections, so now they were supposed to be sitting with the other parties, especially the Minister of Education, and discuss that bill, but they failed. The 60% of South Africans didn't vote for the ANC, so does that mean they also deserve what the ANC is doing.

Also, the focus for most homeschoolers is not the admin, there is allot of admin in homeschooling already, the issue is quality learning, just compare your A levels to CAPS subjects, A levels are presented at some universities, because public school subjects fall short, it is about quality, I will bend over backwards do get the admin done, if it means my child is properly schooled.

I do not want to use the government curiculum because the content is inappropriate for the childs age, some content is simply 18+,we have laws for public platforms that are inappropriate for under 18 but if it is displayed at school it is fine? The other issue I have is the large amounts of learners in the classes, and children not receiving the amount of attention needed to overcome bariers. I do not mind standards at all, bit content will not be teached to my children if I deem it inappropriate for their age, Thats it.

Homeschooling is not waiting to happen. It predates the current schooling system. The schooling system we currently see was introduced by the status quo to educate people just enough to conform. My daughter did homeschooling and it's very important for kids to interact with other children. We stayed in a complex where there were enough children to interact with after school. She went to a public school in grade 9 and she was much more mature than other children even kids older than her came and asked her for advice. Parents which want to attend it should have discipline and treat it as a full time job. It's not a second chance for parents to better their education so don't do your children work.
