Dodge’s problem is that they never innovated their cars. So they adopted a fan base that was completely against anything new. Instead of innovating and improving the Hemi, Dodge chose to pay billions of dollars for EV tax credits from Tesla. Meanwhile Ford changes their Coyote constantly. Ford also brings out things like a V6 Ford GT or an electric F150. This leads to Ford owners being used to change and at least being willing to see what the new thing is like. The same applies to GM. They make an all electric Hummer, Cadillac is making a $300k car, the Corvette is mid engined, the corvette is available as a hybrid, or a NA V8 with a 8,500 redline or as a TTV8 with 1,000hp. Meanwhile Dodge has done nothing innovative ever. The Viper was the same for its entire 25 years of life, the LX platform that the charger/challenger were based off was used for 19 years straight, the Durango has been the same for 15 years…

Biggest L take ever. Why should consumers get used to change? Why should we reinvent the wheel every 10 years if the old wheel is still desired? The "problem" you just illustrated is why economies have to constantly go up eventually you hit a ceiling or a drop off point so that the economy can reset. Dodge had one of the coolest looking cars with an engine that everyone enjoyed. Why change what works? Dodge has been a performance car company since they dropped their passenger sedans and hatchbacks. That is their niche they have now chosen to alienate their entire customer base who enjoy fast cars with powerful engines for people who literally do not exist or are out buying SUV's or teslas. They will not get any business from this and now they have soured relations with their existing customers. It is the companies responsibility to provide products that their consumers want not the other way around.

Sure, it most likely won't appeal to current V8 muscle car fans. But it's a good-looking car. It will be eye catching. And the EV "exhaust" will turn heads as well, even if some don't like it. Polarizing products usually sell enough to succeed. I think a lot of current EV owners will like this more than their current Tesla based purely on vanity, so it will give Dodge a slice of the EV market pie. That's what they need right now. Also, there are a LOT of V6 Charger / Challenger owners out there who would be ok with swapping to an EV (if they can afford it). For those that don't want an EV, the I6 Charger looks like it will have great performance compared to current V6 and even V8 R/T. Almost in line with current Scat Packs. You can make current V6 Chargers / Challengers sound pretty good with mods, so I'm sure people will be able to tune/mod the I6 to be a legit muscle car experience. It’s kind of a miss and it makes me sad. Maybe they can update the front end grill during the mid-cycle refresh to look slightly more retro. You nailed the exterior analysis. I share all your opinions about extending the hood, making the C pillar drop down sooner to create a define trunk, and to make the car look slightly more boxy/less organic.

Dodge is in a weird place, kind of like Harley Davidson. From a market standpoint both are niche companies that have found success at various points over the past 3 decades mostly by targeting a specific, mostly boomer-aged audience with money at the expense of everything and everyone else. Both have come very close to insolvency and been helped from the brink by government bailouts and trade protection shenanigans. Both have made half-hearted attempts and even some full-hearted attempts at branching out or appealing to other buyers with very limited success. Both now desperately need to appeal to a market entirely outside of their existing fanbase to survive.

All who claimed they had it, was either in transit, or sold before delivered in transit. The dealerships said they tried to order many, but got nothing, or maybe 2 per semester, which all sold before they even got them.

@@rabbidcrazy787 No, I'm actually not joking. However, there was a solution; simply order one, so I did. Dealer said customer orders got preference over dealers. Basically if one REALLY want one, and are willing to wait 3-5 months, you can get one. All others get the 2.7, or 3.5 depending on model. I will admit that for staying true to the original muscle car DNA, I do I like it because they certainly could have discontinued this and made it an SUV like every other brand. However, I know all of you are asking for a V8 but even if it came with one, it would most likely be sold at a crazy premium and be limited to those willing to pony up 100k+ for limited V8 run as I can’t see Dodge running this with a production V8

The v8 experience is insane. I have an 04 m45 and just the engine running is so engaging. You can hear and feel the pistons moving, almost can tell the firing order. It makes even slow traffic fun, every gas pedal input is felt, and you dont even need to look at the tachometer to tell your rpms. It's such a detailed sensory experience even a change of 500 rpm is significant. Going electric is such a loss to the people excited for dodge's next car

funnily enough, up here in canada its gonna be 58k, which converted to usd is like 41k, so we are getting it for around 18k usd cheaper for some reason (well I'm assuming so it can qualify for the credits). But this pricing puts it on par with the model 3 and most other entry level evs that are properly capable of going between provinces (ioniq 6 and 5, ev6, and maybe the bolt, kona and niro evs if you don't mind long charge times). So honestly, while it may not be the muscle car many wanted, its still an ev coupe that is relatively affordable compared to other evs, so honestly, I see it as a massive win.

@@chev555Plus govt incentives and the dodge $1000 incentive wouldn't that put it in Elantra N territory?
@chev55515 күн бұрын
@Straightcoolin-qq1qs depending on the province, actually cheaper I think. Because I believe in total quebec gets like 12k in incentives, which that alone would put it almost exactly at the elantra n's price point. But even more importantly, in terms of other "sporty" evs (of which there really aren't many), this looks to be the cheapest option. The mach e is the mach e and is only like 5k cheaper, the model 3 has a bit more or around the same range but is much more boring and just generally worse in almost every regard (it's not even that light anymore), and all the other options are either just as expensive or more expensive than the base. Now the scat pack, that is gonna be a pretty hard sell, but the basic r/t should be a hit up here, especially with the standard awd.

My theory is someone is trying to implode the dodge brand. It's obvious they know how bad these decisions are. I also don't buy the "regulators forced us to make this manly ev" line for a second. They for sure could have made more efficient combustion engines that comply with regulations (look at zr1). I genuinely think Stellantis just thinks dodge owners are mentally challenged and will buy anything if they tell them "it's cool and barely legal".

EV or ICE-powered automatic ? Not much difference, because nowadays they are both smooth and refined to the point of boredom. And if you want HEMI-sound it is possible to just pump it out from the speakers, which may actually sound better, because tire or wind noise won't dampen the engine sound. On the other hand no EV can emulate the experience of driving a manual transmission.

I personally think Dodge needs to go into a different direction and appeal to different people than the Muscle car owners! Their issue right now is that they’re not diversified in their product and their buyers don’t want anything new!
@jubalbiggs29899 күн бұрын
The entire reason that "muscle car" is a thing at all is because companies like Dodge actually listened to their customers. It was a pure popularity, fan based grassroots thing. Corporate types never liked muscle cars and regulators always hated them. Regulators tried to kill the entire category back in the 70s and nearly did so (we actually had a 4 cylinder "mustang" hatchback within a decade of some of the most awesome and collectible muscle cars ever). The entire segment is and always was about regular people who wanted a fun, badass car and didn't care how non-PC that was. When Dodge made the Viper back in the 90s, it was a rebel move, and the modern Charger and Challenger very much grew out of that spirit (Viper was the ultimate DGAF car, and the thinking was that people who could never afford one of those would buy something like a Challenger, which they did). So I am confused. Where is this weird idea coming from that it is Dodge's responsibility to properly "educate" it's customers to get with the EV program? Why is it now their job to condition people to buy stuff they absolutely don't want when their entire brand was built on listening to the customers and NOT bowing to PC pressure in the first place?
