I am a 50 yr. old gay man, and I went thru this exact same situation 30 yrs. ago. We met, he wasn't interested "that way". We ended up having a 23 yr. friendship that was more than anything I can explain! He loved me the best way he could, and once I realized that what I had was MORE important than what I wanted, I was fine! It was like a lightbulb lit up! Wow! I was 16 when I met the person of my dreams and I fell in love with ..We also had 23 Great years and thought we had years ahead of us with great plans for the future. Sadly he also passed away suddenly and I was not there when it happened. I feel like my live was ripped from me in a flash. Everything felt so unreal and I did not know what to do. We have been together for so long ( 23 years) and never apart from one another. This was the first time we were apart and I did not know that I would never see him again. Me and my girlfriend have loved this song for a while now, and we often send it to each other to tell each other "I love you." We've been long distance dating for almost 2 years now and I visited her recently at her college. She had a surprise she wanted to show me so she led me to this locked door which a friend had to open for us. She then led me beyond the door and into a tiny room. Inside was a couple of seats and a piano. I sat down and she started playing for me. It turns out she learned how to play piano just to play the chorus for me when I visited. I was so touched by this I literally cried in her arms for well over 10 minutes. It was one of, if not, the sweetest thing someone has ever done for me and just thinking about it makes me wanna cry happy tears again 😭. I am so lucky and thankful to have her. D*MN, this hit me hard. This means so much to me. I lost my Dad last year, it still feels like yesterday. He had a pain in his arm before saying it felt numb. After tests at the hospital they discovered a brain tumor. From diagnosis to his death it was three weeks. He had his surgery, came out fine and then he said he had a headache. While my mum sat by his side for 5days. Fluid filled his skull and he passed away. I never got to say goodbye properly. This is everything I needed.

I've moved away from home roughly 3 years ago. I left my parents, my home, even my homeland, and I haven't looked back. We didn't part on the best of terms. My mom's birthday is soon and I don't think there is another song out there that shows just how grateful I am to her. Today I found out that my grandma has covid(probably my grandpa too). They are not that old(65&66), but they have some problems with the heart and lungs:(. And I’m so scared. I dedicate this song to them. They are really the best grandparents I could’ve ever have, no doubt. I love them like crazy i’m so thankful to God that He gave me them. Hopefully nothing bad will happen, I’m praying for that, and if you believe in God, PLEASE pray for them. I love them so much, I’m 18 and I cannot even think what I would do without them, especially cause this year I have 4 very hard exams. I want to go to med school and I have the admission exam, but mentally if something bad happens to them, I don’t think I will be able to pass that exam with a good grade. I just wanted to write this here, and hopefully I can come in a few months and say that everything was fine. God have mercy!

A dance group at my schools dance showcase danced to this song and it absolutely took my breath away. The lyrics are so beautiful, the dance was so fitting and I could see the amount of hard work that was put into the dance. At the end of the dance, two dancers hugged each other and it was sweet. A student at my school had passed away prior to the dance showcase so this being the first dance was beautiful. It was because of that group I choose to listen this song on repeat.

Thank you Ben Platt... This song is a very special gift, both my sister and dad died very unexpectedly and they were on unconscious on life support when I had to say my last goodbye. October 2023, my mom received a cancer metastasized diagnosis. As hard as it was, this song gave me the chance to tell her everything that she meant to me - what I could say to my last birth family member still here. Everything I didn't get the chance to say when my sister and dad passed away. I had only heard it for the first time a few weeks ago and I sent it to her to hear, and we talked and cried. I told her how I truly felt in song, better than the words I could have used. While things were seemingly good over the weeks following her diagnosis and 5 year treatment plan, my mom also passed away suddenly with no warning signs 3 months later January 2024. Amidst the sadness, I feel a great sense of peace, that I got to tell her through this song, before she went away.

I've loved this song since it came out. I honestly forgot about it recently until today. It randomly came on my list and it rings so true to keep today that it made me cry. My grandfather, who was more of a father to me than my own, passed away a few months ago after batteling a brain bleed from a stroke for over a month. It still doesn't feel real that he isn't here, but moments like now make it hurt as if it was day one again. I miss you popi. I wouldn't be the woman I am today without you and your encouragement. I did it. I found my only love, and she taught me how to love myself in such a short time at first it scared me. She washed the mistakes and pain of the past away.
