I came out in 1995. I never had hope for music, videos or songs to show my life. Show my love. Gay love and music were exclusive to the clubs and we didn't have anything mainstream to look at or reach for. You just did that, Ben. You gave us an anthem, a song a bit of peace that even though it should be standard now, it isn't and it was a hell of a lot worse back in my day. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you! You have no idea what this song has become for me.

When his boyfriend was comforting him through his panic attack, that was the final straw. I absolutely lost it. Ugly crying and everything. More often than not, they happen silently, and there were so many times I was desperate for someone to simply hold me and tell me it'll be alright again, even though everything in my body is currently screaming otherwise. I will never not be thankful to the people that actually DID have my back, and still do. Without them, I might not be here today.

I agree, but for me, I'm usually alone. I have to struggle and claw myself out of the inky depths of my mind. I can't breathe, I'm suffocating on nothing but my own fears. "I can feel my sanity start to unwind". I have no one to ease my mind. It's terrifying, and I can't do anything about it but beg and pray for it to be over. I have no anchor, I'm just thrashing in the ocean, floating on a lifeboat alone.

4:03 I don’t know if this was intentional but I love that the picture of Ben’s parents appears in the background while he holds up the photo. I know Ben admires the resilience of his parents’ relationship so I think it was put there as a reminder of how he wants his relationship to be- strong and full of love.

Everyone is ignoring the best part of this video, which is the panic attack at 2:16. Coming from a person who has had many panic attacks beginning at a very young age, this is EXACTLY what it looks and feels like. The shortness of breath, the pacing around the bedroom, the struggling, the holding the hands over the head, just desperately trying to get air into the lungs. Ben Platt does it all to a tee. It is easily the best, the only truly accurate portrayal of a panic attack I have ever seen. 100% accurate. It makes me cry every time I watch it. I fell in love with the lyrics of this song because of their true, honest depiction of mental health struggles before I ever watched the video, but the video made me fall even more in love with Ben Platt because of that one simple moment. It could not be executed more excellently.
@amyc99173 жыл бұрын
The whole video is a piece of art but 2:16 is the most accurate representation of what’s it’s like to have panic attacks. I’m also a sufferer of anxiety, panic attacks and have been since I was 15 I’m now 22. I pace, my chest is tight, I fidget, lay on the floor with my arms above my head or stand up with them above me. This has only made me fall more in love with Ben and his music. The lyrics are simply stunning, so honest and true of someone who has mental health struggle. I completely agree he execute it amazingly

Dakota Bridges I think a lot of comments are commenting about it since it isn’t as represented, but even then I don’t think they should be commenting about his sexuality that much, as it more often than not also puts you in a bad spotlight. [Verse 1] Most days I wake up with a pit in my chest There are thoughts that I can't put to rest There's a worry that I can't place Most nights, I am restless and quiet won't come So I lay there and wait for the sun There's a trouble that won't show its face [Pre-Chorus] You came out of nowhere and you cut through all the noise I make sense to the madness when I listen to your voice [Chorus] Darling, only you can ease my mind Help me leave these lonely thoughts behind When they pull me under, and I can feel my sanity start to unwind Darling, only you can ease my mind [Verse 2] I'll admit, for a moment I felt so afraid Just to show you the mess that I made There are pieces I usually hide But when you collect me with your steady hand With a language that I understand I feel put back together inside [Pre-Chorus] You came out of nowhere and you cut through all the noise I make sense of the madness when I listen to your voice [Chorus] Oh Darling, only you can ease my mind Oh help me leave these lonely thoughts behind When they pull me under, and I can feel my sanity start to unwind Darling, only you can ease my mind Darling, only you can ease my mind Help me leave these lonely thoughts behind When they pull me under, and I can feel my sanity start to unwind Darling, only you can ease my mind

I like the scene where Ben’s boyfriend brought dinner to him. As if to say “if this is where you are emotionally and physically, that is where i want to be.” My husband did this recently. after 10 years together. I almost started to cry. He asked why I was sad and I couldn’t answer for a few moments.
