The real problem is not free healthcare for all. The problems are: - $200 trillion in unfunded liabilities. - 93 million Americans not in the workforce. - Only 47% of working adults have a full-time job. - 46 million Americans on food stamps for 39-straight months. - 65% of children living in America live in a household on federal aid. - 1 in 5 Americans participate in a government assistance program. - 1 in 4 Americans, 25-54, not in the labor force. - 11 million Americans on disability. - 150 million Americans pay NO federal income tax. Solve serveral of these and most can afford their own insurance.

You cant have the government set the prices on medicine and expect that the government would stop there. This suggestion would mean that the government would have to make financial audits on the entire healthcare system and tell hospitals what they can profit on all aspects of healthcare, not just medicine. This suggestion is completely made in hindsight without knowing the full picture of how the healthcare system works and all the costs involved hence my comment. I won't even watch the rest of the video since the first two points are most likely made with pure belief that the world should be a fair place and it's not. FYI - Canada care is not as great as they want you to think it is. I have plenty of friends who live in Canada and its like the VA healthcare system out here.

Sure its much lower than the US, but its not 50 times cheaper, its only about 50% less. That's roughly only $8,000 year per patient at 50%, if they cant afford $8,000 than they probably cant afford $16,000. Its still not working in other countries, don't pretend like its heaven there.

Let's go get a whole bunch of racist white voters in the south? I was raised in NYC, and I lived there for 25 years. I now live in North Texas, and there's FAR MORE integration here than I've ever seen in NY. In NY, I remember when a black person would move into the neighborhood, and everyone knew where they lived. It was a novelty that people would discuss at the dinner table. In Texas, however, I see black and white kids playing together on lawns, all over, in different neighborhoods. Maybe once or twice in my life have I seen young black and white children playing with one another in NY. Don't dare tell me that the south is full of racists. I live in West Plano - an affluent area by almost any measure, and the population is more than 13% black. That's an over representation when compared to the percentage of American who are black. Get freaking real. The south is not racist... The north is just bigoted.

Three of the cities I've lived in (Detroit, St. Louis, Chicago) were extremely segregated. Whites, blacks, Italians, and Mexicans stayed in their areas and rarely crossed over. And a lot of them hated each other and had their own stereotypes about the other. So now I'm residing in Louisiana and WOW what a change. No one segregates themselves. Everyone gets along. I've experienced more racism up north (in the cities) than I have down in the south. I actually haven't experienced any down here. As far as whites and blacks, it seems to be 50/50 as far as populations go. Even in really small towns.

Andrew Cox the thing is, if we’re going with “fuck it”, there needs to be a system that drastically reduces healthcare costs to the point of almost halving it, most other developed countries with universal healthcare pay about half per capita of people in the US for it. Obviously there’s the decrease in quality coming from that, but not to the extent of halving the quality. As a conservative that grew up in a liberal county in Texas, we need to remind ourselves that the people we are arguing with have been indoctrinated since they were born. I'm Hispanic and all my life I was told that Republicans were all white racist men that hated every other race and became rich through our hard work. I'm the "against the grain" type of guy and as I grew older, I realized how wrong things were. I picked up early that all adults that had an influence on me were trying to make me think the way they did, even though they complained how my city has been poor for so long. I've tried now to convince them otherwise but I'm met with hostility, "from my own family". I still get upset at the stupid things liberals say, but I have to remind myself that they don't know any better. I always remind myself of a funny quote I once read, "Never argue with an idiot because he will bring you down to his level and then beat you with experience", and that's how I manage to stay normal where I live. Just some advice for those who really get pissed off at some of the comments that some people make.

Overtime I began to see the truth, that both parties are filled with horrible people out to Rob us. I began to learn the corrupt the reasons the Iraq War was waged and about the military industrial complex. Ben said the money wasn't doing nothing, it was being lent out by banks, to people like Cenk, so they can start businesses and keep the economy running.

@@Yfrboy Shapiro was trying to draw a dichotomy with those two things that are entirely separate and he was wrong. No one was saying anything about removing money from all aspects of society, or more specifically, that you can't invest in businesses. A lot of how Shapiro decided to approach this debate was with a bunch of 'gotcha' style attacks. The crowd and his fan base loved that shit though. And Cenk started to do the same thing while before he was directly addressing a hostile crowd. This wasn't a debate by any stretch of the imagination, just a waste of time with two people trying to talk over each other and the crowd of blathering idiots as if this was an episode of Rome where the mob is stark raving mad. Politicon is a joke.

I live in Canada and for the most part our Health Care is FREE at the time of receiving said H Care. What many people from the USA don’t understand is we pay very high taxes. Our sales tax alone is a whopping 13%. In other words, that is a $1.30 / $10.00 spent. Also, when you require Specialized Care / Surgery, wait times can be as long as a Year to a Year and Half. This, as one can well imagine, is a serious complication. Using logic, you don’t need to be a genius to conclude that while paying these high taxes (income tax included) an individual ends up paying much more than what Americans pay each month for their insurance. There are many many other examples of why our Health Care is in NO WAY what Americans believe it to be at all.

I really don’t have much good to say re the system itself. There are very good people that work within it and with the resources they have access. That can be said about the US system as well. When my high taxes pay for a system that will provide me with a needful surgery many months down the road when I have actually already paid for this service it upsets me. I recently broke a bone in my metatarsal. I went to the Emergency Dept at 2 different locations a couple times in effort to avoid a 6-10 hr wait time. Ultimately, I ended up getting treatment after it was suggested I return and line up prior to opening to receive patients. I would much prefer a system in which I pay insurance. Health Care as a free market system allows to fill a need. In other words. If everyone has to wait 6-10 hrs then that means a group of Doctors could collectively open up a small, med practice to fill a need. If McDonalds had a 20 min wait time then another McDonalds would open up down the road. It is NOT unheard of to have our newly graduated Doctors to leave Canada and head to the US.

The premiums for my wife and I in our mid-30s both thru employers amounts to $11,000, and that's before deductibles and copays. 13% sales tax on groceries, clothes, etc (not on every dollar you spend as you suggested) would be a fraction of that...and we have 7.125% sales tax as it is. Rand Paul just went to Canada for surgery. Rand Paul. The jury is in on the American health care system.
