Stand 34 to the body...he been with ward. He also used frame control to get off shots in the clinch...but he needs to mix it up on the inside so he can maximize his skills 9-12. I believe he needs Virgil Hunter at this point otherwise it will be the same. His clinch was trash too no a locking nothing he needs to study ward and especially BHOP the clinch master.

Benavidez was just always gonna win, simply cuz Plant wasn't really a threat, misses the power in his punches so sooner or later David would get to him.. With his holding Plant was able to survive the 12 rounds, but he did get a lot of shots to his head, so his holding on didn't really help him, as David works great on the inside too. Plant had to use his speed more, move around & use the shoulder roll.. Now he just had his hands down and his punch combos were often too predictable, landing on DAvid's guard.

I dont know if it was the game plan, but the way Benavidez started to counter the clinch with the lace face-scrub and elbows/forearms in the neck in the early rounds...it seemed to force Plant to immediately bury his face on Benavidez right shoulder like clockwork. I love CP one of if not my favorite boxer of the current generation but I was kinda disappointed with the game plan, I felt like a point of emphasis early on should have been to really sit down on some punches and try and gain the respect from Benavidez and also would have liked to see him let that right hand go after some of the jabs you pointed out, seemed like the game plan was the same as the Canelo fight tho just to stick and move and try and outbox Benavidez to a win. But that didn’t work in the Canelo fight so idk why try that here too. It’s just almost impossible to box like that for 12 rounds against someone like DB or Canelo that puts on that pressure. Would have like to have seen maybe some baiting playing possum setting traps something in the middle to later rounds too.

@@deszi6936 First of all Punch stats are not always correct. It's just some guy scoring punches in real time nothing else, so i don't read into punch stats that much. Plant clinched really bad. You got to use a high underhook with your left arm and an overhook with your right arm. That way your opponent cannot hit you with either hand. @@bekeneel Punch stats aren’t really a great measure, because no one knows the criteria they use. There’s zero way Benavidez was not eating jabs and Caleb’s counter left hooks for at least half of the fight, even at round 12 Caleb let off many combinations at the end of the round. What are your thoughts on this take, I felt like plant used a lot of wasted movement, he uses a lot of footwork and for lack of a better word “flashy” defense to evade rather than counter.. also his fast flurries or combos although fast and put together well, just seemed ineffective.. he’s so athletic and has the speed. It’s almost like he likes to show how athletic and fast he is rather than use that athleticism to come up with a strong gameplan and outwork or outpoint his opponent. He’s dam good on the outside I’d like to see him get better at mid and close range though.. and be more comfortable at mid-close range. He has the athleticism to fight like mayweather. But gets broken down and gassed in the later rounds because of all the “flashy” wasted movement. We KNOW he’s athletic, we KNOW he can box.. I’d like to see him relax and put it all together and USE that athleticism, more wisely, a more tactical approach. I feel like he could break his opponents down with just strong basics and out point/work his opponents because of his athleticism alone. All that unnecessary and wasted movement creates his problems in later rounds Idk just my two cents 🤷‍♂️ Opinions?

@@MGB18 That shit don't mean anything to a more skilled boxer which caleb plant is, Bivol outboxed zurdo who is bigger, canelo ko'd caleb who is bigger. Plant got headbutted and elbows and rabbit punches because he started to go in survival mode after the 5th round over excessively clinching the Mexican boxer.
@NoName-vb4pc
@NoName-vb4pc Жыл бұрын
Man Boxing Gems, i felt towards the 5th round onwards Caleb gave to much space away for free... at points Caleb Plant was being defensive for the sake of being the defensive, when Benavidez was not even really throwing anything meaningful to make him move that much. Boxing is a chess match giving away space for the sake of it only tires you out and gets you closer to the ropes, Caleb should have stood his ground and should have retreated only when necessary, that would have saved gas. Benavidez is not a good pressure fighter and Caleb Plant is to comfortable going defensive for no real reason. Even in the 5th round we had a sequence where Benavidez was guarding,shelling up against the ropes trying to bait Caleb Plant into something, and caleb sensed the bait threw some light punches and than...... CLINCHED for no reason, when your opponent is choosing to be defensive by shelling up, that is a perfect moment to rack up points by showing educated offense, kinda like Bivol did when Canelo shelled up against the ropes. Caleb Plant threw away a comfortable victory by clinching at wrong times, not working the clinch, and being gun shy when Benavidez wasn't even doing that much.

there's nothing wrong with engaging in a rare clinch here and there like if you get caught out of position and you don't really have a choice. this kind of constant clenching just makes it horrible to watch the fight. There should be some better way to punish guys for breaking rules or for making the fight a complete mess. If you take a point from a guy for constantly clenching then you should be able to tell him that every time he clenches after that you're going to take another point. I know that's not going to happen but man that would really work.

Caleb simply gets way too spread out, in landing his most intuitive shots...the armchair quarterback I'm being, I apologize, however, I pull hard for Plant..his most effective defense is an exhausting style. Floyd, being the ideal of the style Plant attempts to employ, was so relaxed and closed distance to evade, rather than sticking and moving, much more than is what's in people's recollections. God Bless You All.

DB vs. CP was a great match up, fun to watch. Big ups to both men... Ramos vs. Spencer was a mismatch. Lol.. Haven't seen many people talking about the 7th round headbutt that Plant received. IMO this the the turning point. At the sight of his blood Plant looked fatigued, panicked, unsteady and in survival mode. Appreciate the grit on display, just wish his mental game held up also. Not sure Plant has had any other significant cuts in his career.

Is it me or did Plant look like 168 lbs Pauline Malignaggi, great footwork, great jab, constantly leaning to his right and no right hand to speak of? He needs to watch Tommy Hearns’ videos non stop. He also had no inside game. That movement was not sustainable nor was all that dam holding. It burns up energy. If he had a competent inside game like Andre Ward, he could work on the inside and smother Benavidez, using his legs only in spots. It seems Plant’s game is too limited to beat the top guys but good enough to make it interesting. And while a lot of folks are excited about the Mexican Monster right now, that fight highlighted his deficiencies as well. He is a hell of a fighter but I think Bivol puts it on him.

The Philly Shell is so hard to master. And it can't be your only style of defense. When Floyd used the Shell he combined it with offense. Plant on the other hand, isn't good at "making him miss making him pay." Most people say Plant has a great defense; he has a flashy and slick defense; a pretty good Pilly Shell will look like that. But a pretty good Shell isn't good enough. It looks good enough but it ain't. The problem is who can teach the Philly Shell today? Floyd Sr. and Floyd Jr. I don't think either one of them is interested in being a full-time trainer.
