Ring Push Ups and Deficit Push Ups off plyo boxes have been game changers for chest hypertrophy due to their extra ROM. Even with the deep stretch, shoulders still feel great too.

Yep, I love ring push ups they are underrated

Bench press and dumbell press are still way better exercises is hypertrophy is your goal. Ring push ups are great too but it is harder to give your max strenght due to stability issues
@lolfirepoisonftl11 ай бұрын
Yeah not going to disagree there. Easier to progress and the better stability helps with really tiring out those pec muscles. Plus I have found the two calisthenics exercises I mentioned to be more exhausting due to the added core demands. Still though, they are nice change of pace from weights and the added ROM on both of them still gives a great stretch in the pecs.@@hl3616

Resistance is resistance. The only thing we need to build muscle is muscle fatigue. It can be achieved with training to failure or close to failure regardless of rep range. we don't need bench press to build chest upto full potential.

Oh, so that's why all pro body builders and power lifters avoid bench press. smh
@farfromnorth3 ай бұрын
@@LastBastian Yes exactly, loads of bodybuilders do more pushups than bench press. Less stress on the joints and chance of injury from ego lifting..
@LastBastian3 ай бұрын
@@farfromnorth Name the pro bodybuilders who rely on pushups to build size, over bench press. Because yeah, pushups are fine for general fitness, but generally not that great for muscle mass. Especially pro body builder kind of mass, and especially when compared to benching.

They're different exercises. If you need to press heavy weights for some reason, go for bench. If you're working towards harder calisthenics skills, go for pushups. If you're trying to build muscle, try both.

I mainly do body weight as I have no reason to bulk up and my main goal is a strong heart, I Row 40 minutes a day then usually just rely on pushups which I use the sally up routine for, and I don't have loads of muscle but as of now a resting heart of 42 which I'm pretty proud about 😀 pushups are just convenient and I suppose I could always strap weight on me whilst doing them if it ever came to that, I do about 300 daily 4 sets of 50 and 3 x sally up challenge💪

Weighted pushups now feels better for me compared to normal barbell/dumbbell presses. But of course there always have to be a balance to avoid minimalism and dogma mindset. For barbell variations, I like the barbell Larsen press and incline dumbbell presses because I can't feel the upper chest with normal decline pushups. If I'm on a vacation and don't have access to normal gym equipment, pushups and dips are the key

I used to do barbell bench press for years. I got to the point where i was benching 120kg for 2x with 80ish kg. Never felt my chest but i got stronger on it. But with push ups i can feel my chest lot better doing push ups on dumbbells for more ROM is so much better than doing barbell bench press. Also i can move my scapula which feels so good on push ups. Also its easy to progress on it, just put plates on your back and you are good to go. Unless you are too strong. Because doing push ups with a 20kg on your scapula can be really challenging

Bench press is better. Period. Im ~260lbs. I've been training powerlifting as a bench specialist for about 11 months and currently bench 420 lb. And i bench exclusively on a Smith machine which is inferior to a barbell bench. A couple months ago I tested how many push-ups I could do and I did over a hundred. There's no argument that you can make that push-ups are better in any regard than bench pressing if a person who's never even trained in calisthenics can progress more in less than a year than 99.9% of people who actually train calisthenics. Especially when you factor in my weight. If you disagree please show me the calisthenics athlete that trained for one year and benched 420 lb. They dont exist because the the variables at your disposal to progressively overload in calisthenics are ridiculously inferior to powerlifting. Ill give props to pullups though. They are probably the best exercise for pulling strength out there especially when they're weighted.
@ChiliDavis4311 ай бұрын
For powerlifting, but not necessarily for bodybuilding or other types of “fitness”. “Benching” on a smitty isn’t really benching. Herschel Walker, but that’s super rare. If your goal is chest pressing strength, not everyone’s is, then Bench Press is superior. I quit benching due to shoulder issues, moved to exclusively controlled dips and my chest grew 1 inch around. I am absolutely weaker on bench, but I got “bigger”. This could also be attributed to better sleep and or nutrition, more lat work. Etc.

Barbell Benchpress is a trash exercise. Zero range of motion, tricep dominant, no shoulder or chest stretch. 99% of people who benchpress all the time with a barbell have deliberating shoulder pain they have to do 35 minutes of warm-up just to get through.
