"I got cocky...I shouldn't be all showboaty" Still, Ben, you are right. It's better to be humble and take care of your body. Proverbs 16:18 is a good rule to live by. I just came back to skating at 48 and I'm riding an 8.8" Creature Jimmy Wilkins with 8.75" Thunders. I will probably try an 8.5" next. I was worried the wheels would stick out too much, but they don't seem to on your setup here. I'm doing ok. Can't ollie consistently yet, but I'm back doing slappies, reverts (frontside and backside) and power slides and working on manuals and nose manuals. I take my time and try to enjoy the process. Wearing full pads/helmet has taken some getting used to, but I feel safer and more confident when I fall. Really admire your skating, bro. You're one of my favorite people to watch. There are flashier, techier, gnarlier guys out there, but one thing you have...you're very consistent. Especially considering you're constantly changing your setup...maybe that's part of why. Anyway. Keep skating, bro and stay safe. You are an inspiration to skaters young and old.

It's not a popular opinion, but I love tensor trucks (once the bushings are swapped out). I love the old aluminum slider tensors more than any other truck and have been happily skating them for 15 or 20 years. I switched to mag lights (Mullen sliders and Daewon lows) this year because I have been curious for a while and they feel exactly the same albeit noticeably lighter. The only issue I have had is that the magnesium wears MUCH quicker than the aluminum so keep that in mind.

Hey man just seen your comment! I’ve just got the Andy Anderson heron 2 board think it’s 8.5 at the trucks and 8.7 in the middle like an egg shape. It’s my first ever board and I’ve got Indy 149 forged hollows to go on them what you think? I’ve never skated in my life so this is my first set up!! 😎

Might be unpopular, but I prefer your skating on this bigger set-up. You seem to throw yourself into the tricks more. And bigger boards just look dope.

Hey Ben, it is clear to see you know your stuff. Is there any chance you can do a guide to a good deck for a beginner skater? Would really trust in your opinion. Greetings from Ireland.

That's kinda exactly my setup, but i ride a polar 8,5 just to rep sweden. When i first started skating 8,5 it was disgusting, flip tricks were slow and unpredictable and jumping up stuff was a pain in the ass. However after skating 2 of them i must say it's way more loose and fun then a reguler sized board, you will get used to it fast and once you do it's such a blast!

Thank you for this video. I have only ridden 8.75 popsicle decks with 159 Indys. I now want try an 8.5 popsicle, but I don't want to splash out on new smaller trucks. Do you think 159 Indys are perfectly fine on the 8.5 deck? My local skate shop told me I would need 149 trucks on an 8.5. Thanks.

@@joejoe9o244 Hi. Yes I tried 159 on an 8.5 and am very happy. The trucks don't stick out at all; personally I think it makes the board more stable.

@@5hanesBoard yeah same way of the 8.25 deck with 149, i think you should always get the larger truck couse a 144 looks too small for a 8.25 would love to try the 159s
