Benedict has the ability to be all people in the book. It is wonderful for him to do this with so much ease. He's a great actor, but he's readings are so very special. He is gifted. And I will try to hear all he's done.

Such perfect enunciation. I have never heard an audiobook in which every word falls into place like a jewel even when the voices of so many characters are evoked.

Each to their own.. I much prefer a Briton reading a book with such a quintessentially English setting but an Anglo accent on a eg. Mickey Spillane would jar just as much as an American reading Sayers, Christie or Allingham.

Another beautiful reading by Benadict Cumberbatch, but I pity anyone trying to learn English from the automated transcript which contains so many errors that it would be incomprehensible as a stand alone text.
@franceswray8340
@franceswray8340 Жыл бұрын
Someone suggests using the CC instead of the transcript, but this is also automated and although the text it produces is somewhat more accurate, it is nevertheless highly faulty in terms of punctuation.

My thoughts exactly, the transcript is awful! These things always need proofreading by an actual linguist if the text is this important.

I saw a comment in another one saying it has to do with differentiating the various voices from the same person within whatever program they use to do it. Something like that, sounded a bit strange to me. It definitely takes away from the story, and it usually is bc of a lack of a copy editor. I just listen without watching, or I’d go crazy, lol.

A wonderful reading of an entertaining story-- but I absolutely cannot recommend that anyone studying English as a second language look at the transcript. The tremendous number of errors in spelling, grammar, capitalization, and choice of near homonyms make this useless for anyone trying to learn by following along with the transcript. Listen to the story, by all means, but please be aware that you cannot rely on the transcript to clarify any confusing words. Whoever produced this transcript, if indeed a real human was involved at all, was inexcusably lazy. IGNORE THE TRANSCRIPT-- the creator of this video did.

I like this idea but your transcript has many errors, which is odd considering you have access to the original text from the stories which are, of course, error-free. Indeed, KZbin's own subtitle feature offers a transcript as good if not better than yours, although without the handy highlighting of the words as they are spoken. If you are going to do this, you owe it to your students to proofread the texts properly before putting them out. If you would like help in this regard, please contact me directly.

I agree with the comments above on the uselessness of the transcript. Why is this the case? A beautiful reading is totally marred by the inexactness of the transcript.

Great audio. Cumberbatch is awesome. Subtitles have loads of mistakes. They must have been made with a program, certainly not by a human capable of writing. Actually for being made by a program, the're not that bad... Just not right.

@@heenanyou The correct phrase is “poorly written English”. In this case, “poorly” is an adverb that modifies the verb “written”. Adverbs describe how something is done. On the other hand, “poor” is an adjective and it doesn’t correctly modify the verb “written”. So, when you’re referring to the quality of written English, you should use the adverb “poorly”, not the adjective “poor” - best ask your mum to check your comments before you post them
