I'm so nervous to join because I don't know what my family will think and I don't know if it's something that I actually want to do. I've always wanted to join since I was 17 and in high school and a few guards game in to educate my class. I wasn't able to join then, but I may be able to join now because I'm studying for my GED and should graduate in September. I've spoken with someone who helped connect me with a recruiter. So, I'll be emailing the recruiter soon to speak with and see if it's something I truly want to commit to.

is it true if we are at a full time company ? And we choose to enlist with the national guard ? Do we still get paid from the job we "left" and still have the ability to go back to that job without any issues after the 3 months of basic training ?

Yes. Your civilian job legally cannot fire you for military services. Though they are not required to pay you while you are gone. And they shouldn’t.

3 months? it depends. If you choose military jobs like patient care specialist, the training can be between 6-12 months. So basic training is about 3 months and you have additional advanced training of your military job. Mine was medical supply specialist was only 6 weeks long so I had about 6 months of training total including basic training and advanced training.

By law they can’t fire you for military leave for basic training and AIT. However they don’t have to pay you. But your job will be waiting for you when you come back.

If you don’t like school then I suggest getting your ged and then just joining the active duty army. They house you and feed you for free in the barracks and pay pretty well especially when you start to move up. Your money will add up since you don’t pay for housing and don’t have to pay for food. They’ll feed you.

That is not something that fully disqualifies you though and that is something that is fixable with some hard work and a plan! Have you considered making a workout plan for yourself and having a friend or the local recruiter help keep you accountable?
