Temperature is another axis in this domain. Immune systems operate the MOST complex chemical reactions that are possible - and complexity is limited by temperature range - so in warm blooded animals, these reactions often work over a range of less than 1C. Other processes work over much wider ranges, as people can operate over more than a 10C range. Mitosis works over an even larger range, but can be stressed by pushing it toward its thermal limits - just like it can be stressed by changing the membrane potential. Stressing mitosis will limit what it can copy. Species (like us) who have survived for a long time can be presumed to be programmed with DNA sequences that are easy to reliably copy, so doing things that stress copying would tend to damage erroneous DNA sequences before damaging correct DNA sequences. I suspect that membrane potential and temperature considerations should best be considered together.

20 mV to 60 mV? Not much data there and what is receiving this data? Another membrane? Can it detect .05mV change? As it stands, doesn't make much sense.
