I did a detox similar to this when I was younger due to a failing kidney. All I had for the first week was chicken broth, the second week I was aloud one raw egg. And slowly I could eat coconut oil, the. Honey, then eventually meats. And that diet persisted for a whole year. By the end my skin was better then I’ve ever seen it, I had more energy then I never knew I could have, and I was always happy. Good move on you, it’s a life changing experience.

I can identify with the whole hypothyroidism thing. I've had this condition for a long time. I'm on medication for it, and it does help. You are young, and it sounds like you're on the right track to taking better care of yourself. In my opinion, the best detox is simply drinking water throughout the day. So many people are dehydrated without knowing it. It took me until I entered my 50's to realize all of this.

I've never watched you before Ben. The most endearing bit was when your guide was talking about Sri Lanka being part of the British Colony and you said "yeah, sorry about that". I smiled. Thank you Ben, for acknowledging how problematic that time was with a simple and yet much needed apology. I was here hoping to find a great detox place, but I'm not convinced by this one. Reminded me of one I stayed in India which seemed similar. Think I'll find a UK one. I can live without the snakes, spiders and mosquitos!

I work as a chef for a wellness retreat less fancy than this one and it mostly just consists of healthy food/juice fast, meditation and yoga without all those treatments. We serve the meals buffet style so the guests don't go starving. You would not want to sign up for the silent meditation retreat lol. Most people I see attending seem relaxed and happy to be there so maybe you suffered because you didn't know what you signed up for and it was a drastic lifestyle change for you

Wellness retreats are the biggesy waste of money. For less than $5000, you can get you a GORGEOUS airBNB right on the ocean in either Bali or Koh Samui Thailand, and get fresh fruit and vegetables at a nearby market. And you can stay there for a month.

I detox/ withdrawl the hard way, shaking, sweating, nausea, stomach/ bowel pain, anxiety, night terrors, and delusions. Usually after the 4-5th day it goes away and I get better each day after. Sometimes I need benzodiazpines to get through, 95% of the time i just suffer through it. Its not worth going down this path as each withdrawl gets worse the next time.

I don’t want to minimize your experience, I just wonder if you could have taken a more positive approach to your video. I am a little bugged out by the “first-world” problems you faced. Many cannot even imagine to be able to do something so special. I felt icky when you complained about it most of the time. It looked like you were in a very beautiful and magical place, but it didn’t seem you expressed it enough. Plus, for such an expensive week, I’m not sure why you wouldn’t have done more research to know exactly what you were getting yourself into.

Yeah, in other parts of the world, we don’t eat nearly as much as Westerners do. We take small bites, and often take our time with chewing, thus we feel very full with very little :)
