Came here for a review of the Behringer B-Collection 8.
@BigJBeats3 жыл бұрын
Is it okay that Arturia’s foundation is emulating EVERYTHING they produce?? Asking for a friend.🤔
@0VRLNDR3 жыл бұрын
@@BigJBeats Yes. They work with the owners of the original IP to get a blessing / license / partner on it. All parties involved have an interest in a quality final product and no one is surreptitiously copied. If Behringer approached Arturia and got a license / approval for a dead copy that they could make in order to sell their upcoming DAW, then the comparison would be fair, and so would Behringer's business practices.

@@0VRLNDR There was some shadiness about their Synthi emulation and there are several that don't use trade dress because they didn't partner with the maker/rights holder. On something like the 2600 I don't particularly care - Korg got the ARP name and logo via ARP's bankruptcy, they have no real claim to it IMO.

@gridsleep I know this is supposed to be a joke, but didn't they add a bunch of Deepmind features to the Juno? And people always say the Deepind sounds quite Juno-esque...
@OttosTheName3 жыл бұрын
@gridsleep no I mean that the DeepMind supposedly sounds like a Juno, but it had lots more features. Then Arturia came with the new Juno VST and they also added a bunch of extra features that are also in the DeepMind. Haven't compared the two myself though.

Nice! I have a hardware Dave Smith OB-6, and can say that the OB-Xa pairs well and stands up decently with it. I've watched a lot of Oberheim videos, and Arturia's recreation seems accurate to me.
@zachhaywood15642 жыл бұрын
I'm new to the synth world, so please forgive me if I get some things wrong, but did Dave Smith buy out Oberheim and/or all of their designs/patents?
@gordonmurphy43212 жыл бұрын
@@zachhaywood1564 As I understand it, the OB-6 is collaboration between Dave Smith and Tom Oberheim. But as to who owns the patents - I don't know. Surely Dave would have to get permission to use the patents - however patents don't last for very long, so maybe the patents have already expired. I'm guessing the two are at least professional friends. They are both giants in the field of electronic music - that's for sure.

One unorthodox request: I would be very interested in you reviewing..... the book Voice Leading by David Huron. Just to be clear, it is not a classical/Western music theory book, but mostly talks about acoustic and auditory phenomena (which anyone who's seen an instrument under a spectrum analyser must have wondered about), and I think it's a wonderful reading material for anyone who's producing electronic music, where we can create instruments with any kind of spectral "footprint", unlike classical music, where this has to be done by orchestration. Anyway, at least for me that book was intensely interesting because it exactly answered the kind of questions I've always had.

That Vocoder actually sounds great. Up until hearing this, I have pretty much despised all of them. That Arturia Mellotron wins the mellotron race, as being able to convincingly "mellotronize" your own sounds is a pretty incredible sound design trick. Props for mentioning it, it is brilliant. I believe my V8 upgrade for $99 ships tomorrow! After hearing your demos, I am pretty excited about getting some new VSTs for the first time in quite a while. Great video. You know, if you pay full-price for the V-Collection, yes, it does seem like a lot of money, but like you say, you get instruments that are very well developed. I bought in on V-Collection 3 and skipped 4, bought 5, skipped 6 and bought 7, each time with a price break from Arturia at the time of introduction. They DO have sales annually and at other random times as well, it seems. If you can get it on one of their sale times, it's certainly worth the money-you won't find ANY of the represented instruments in real life for anywhere near the money you will pay for the Arturia product, and their emulations are amazing. Couple them with some good production plugs on your DAW and you can create amazing tracks for not a lot of money. Black Friday Sales rule. I also just got the Lindell 80 Neve channel strip and the CLA 76 compressor on sale. Running the CS-80 V into that signal chain is tremendous. But yeah, Arturia does a great job-worth the money, I think. Again, great video-thank you for posting!

Correct me if I’m wrong (and totally could be) but isn’t the JX 8P really similar to the JX-3P and hence the Juno 6? I see the JX line as almost preset versions of the Juno 6/60s but that’s based on reviews I’ve seen. I was considering looking into getting a JX-3P for this very reason so if they are vastly different I may reconsider.

While these are great - I’m torn between this and the UVI vintage vault 3.. Are Arturia VSTs CPU heavy like the Roland Cloud VSTs? I know UVI are samples so I’m leaning more towards them (plus they have an MKS-80 Super Jupiter VST - or as they call it - Mercury 80), than having to upgrade my MacBook yet again. Also, any word on UVI having a vintage vault 4? I think they usually come out with their VST packages at the beginning of the year and vintage vault 3 is 11 months old.

I have the keystep and boy do i wish it had an effing screen so I know the bloody tempo I'm setting when it's my main keybord. Good luck dialing an exact tempo with the knob and no screen. inb4 Keystep37, I shouldn't have to buy a new keyboard for such a small quality of life improvement. Also, ironic how we're throwing shade at a manufacturer about cloning a product in a video about a collection of cloned instruments.

Great review, and I agree with everything else except that they "run really efficiently". Some Arturia plugins use ~15 times more cpu per voice than others without seemingly any reason for it, the low cpu ones don't sound any worse than the cpu hogs. Some are efficient, some are not. The CZ, ARP2600, SEM and CS-80 for example take a LOT less cpu than Synthi, Matrix-12 or the Clavinet. All on simple template sounds without fx. The ones that are not efficient, I would not use in a live performance...
