Every coach has the right to question the ref and what their interpretation of the rules are. How is that in anyway influencing the ref, if the ref has already his own interpretation of the rule? The fact that he asked a player from the start does not mean he has been influenced, it means he's aware of what they are doing. Which is what every coach is doing pushing the rules to the absolute limit. Cleary playing the victim because now every ref is aware of how far they are pushing the rules, and more importantly which rule. Which begs the question, just how much it played in them making the Playoffs? Ivans mad that those plays are now under the spotlight.

Yep, If it means the rules are being enforced consistently, then it is better for the game and fairness abounds for all teams..... Sutton has a habit of failing to correct himself in the rules he is obligated to enforce... If he misses something, and then puts his own performance under the microscope, which Refs do when they go over the game at a later time, he does not correct himself. It's like a player who drops the ball, has poor ball security, gives away a penalty or all of the above, every game... And doesn't correct himself! My one bone with Sutton is, He allows one team to lay on the tackled player longer than the other... And makes the other team get off quicker!!!!!!

Just went to watch the round 23 game to see if I could see what he was talking about, very first play there is 2 players offside and one of them instantly changes his line and tries to shoulder barge the marker off cleary. Pretty easy to see why he wanted it questioned. Went back to watch a bit more and the very next 5th tackle kick from cleary the guy blocking for him runs infront of the marker for a good meter or 2 to stop him. It's strange that Ivan thinks there was something wrong with wayne pointing out blatant shepparding to the refs, guess he's mad someone's put an end to this tactic he's been using all year to keep markers off Nathan he's lucky he wasn't pulled up sooner

They were in front of the dummy half and directly effected the defenders ability to get to the play. If they are going to set up blocks if you look at the same game with the bunnies panthers round 23, the bunnies 2nd or 3rd kick they set up a block but he is in an onside position. The part he trys to move his line a bit needs to be looked at i guess but that is a legal block play. the defender has a chance to run past him.

In general in sports young teams get support and attention as they represent the future of the game. In NRL the situation is different all what the young panthers got is jealousy and hatred. Last year the retiring super grub was more experienced, this year they couldn't beat the rusty dusty master. Next year they can't compete with the Queenslander Broncos spirit. Funny listening to some of these guys picking apart body language, try coaching a local park team let alone at this level. It takes plenty of stones to do what he did and take on the best ever coach in rugby league. The other element he's taking on is the journalists cos generally they're gonna side with the majority ie. the winner.
