Thanks for the comparison but you didn't mention the brightness difference between the two models. The older is 350cd/m2 whereas the later is 300cd/m2. Is this difference relevant or important ? I have lots of photos created on an older 'bright' laptop and am concerned a lower brightness screen could display these as dull.. Comments ? Thanks
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 4 жыл бұрын
@Michael Dwyer, it is really not an issue and not as important for photo work. A few things about old laptop no matter how bright they are, they are only so bright, the back light technology then is not as good as it is now. The other thing to consider to you is that if you're doing any printing at all, you may want to edit those photos, to the proper screen brightness because if you don't your images will print out much darker than what you're seeing on the screen. The best luminance value for photo editing is between 80 to 120 Candela. This means that these displays once calibrated will be running at 1/3 or half the max brightness. And even if you were doing work for web. You should always calibrate your screen to between 80 to 120 Candela.And even if you were doing work for web. You should always calibrate your screen to between 80 to 120 Candela. In this case I would not necessarily worry about your picture looking "dull" I will be more concerned about your picture looking correct on a proper calibrated display, which both of these are capable of.

Thank you for another great review. Considering of getting the Sw270c after reading your response on my comment on your other post. I don't use macbook or laptop so the usb-c may not be beneficial for me as my desktop external video card don't have that. But in terms of colour accuracy, contrast and rendition of black and grays, is it worth upgrading to 270c? I am using 2700pt at the moment. Keen to hear your thoughts pls. My background, i print my own work and sometimes get a few sales. I also submit my work to photo competitions which is why colour accuracy is important to me. But at the same time if there is no visible difference with my older 2700pt then maybe i'd stick to it for now.
@ArtIsRight

I would just stick with the SW2700PT, unless you have a need to add another one or the SW2700PT is out of warranty and it is starting to develop defects. Otherwise, it is a great display. In real world image editing work you won't see that much of a visual difference but some might argue otherwise. I say if you have the SW2700PT already, save the money ;)

@ArtisRight thank you for all the videos, your knowledge is awesome. I'm trying to decide on the best 24" or 27" monitor to purchase for photo editing and have some Q's if I may: 1. Is the SW270C still currently the best 27" monitor (in that price range), if not, which model is now best choice 2. What is the best & most current 24" monitor (in that price range) 3. I have an older ATI Radeon 2600 XT graphics card with 2 x DVI-I Dual Link ports (it may get upgraded in the future but OK for now); which port on the monitor would I need to connect to for the best display quality ie DVI, HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C port 4. If the DVI monitor port is not used / recommended; I would need a suitable adaptor / cable for connection, do you have any recommendations for make / models to use. I know it's a lot to ask but I think it is something others might be thinking about as well. I would be very grateful for your input, recommendations and any other comments you may like to add for due consideration.
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome 1. In that price range SW270C is the top of the line 27" 2K 2. SW240 hardware calibrated display. 3. SW240 you would use the DVI cable, for the SW270C would you need an adapter because it does not have DVI. 4. I have not used any of these my self, but you want to look for something like this www.amazon.com/StarTech-com-DisplayPort-DVI-Adapter-Dual-Link/dp/B00A493CNY Make sure that is dual link if you are going to use it with the 27" 2K display. At which point, it may be a better investment to upgrade the video card. Sound like you are on an older Mac Pro tower, if so you can get a Radeon 580X for under $200 now a days.

Hi @Pascal, this SW270C does come with the horizontal hood. If you need to use the monitor in vertical orientation, there are 2 pieces of the shading hood that you need to purchase as an accessory to have the hood vertical. And like all SW display they all come with a hood except the SW240. From time to time, as of this writing, there's a promotion on the SW240 which comes with the hood for free. Cheers.

Thanks for the comparison! I'm looking forward to buying this monitor. How color accurate is this monitor? What's the Delta E on this from factory calibration when compared to macbook pro? Is this monitor true 10bit or 8bit + FRC? My only concern is if the colors of an edited/color graded video from this monitor will be consistent across all devices(iPhone). Please help.
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 4 жыл бұрын
Sure thing. SW is guarantee to have a ∆e value of less than 2 from the factory. Compared to the Macbook Pro, you are talking about a different class of displays. This video will explain more kzbin.info/www/bejne/b5m5l6qNbrF-bqc The monitor is a 8 bit + FRC, not sure if I mentioned this in the video or not. But unless you really have a use case for it, true 10 bit is really not going to get you much. The color will be great if you custom calibrate it, it will be even more accurate. If you are looking at this display to color grade and having it match apple device you can use the color mode called m-book or run a hardware calibrate in DCI-P3 RGB Primary.
@AngadBhatiaa

@@ArtIsRight @ArtIsRight Thank you so much for the quick reply. I've been researching a lot about this monitor for color grading my videos. I shoot 10bit 4:22 videos and I'm looking for a great monitor with excellent color accuracy when viewed on smartphones/iphones. Will working on DCI-P3 give me accurate colors across macbook pro and iphone devices and not on SRGB? 1. SW270c has m-book color mode right? Is this a type of color profile or preset to mimic iMac/macbook colors? When I usually export any edited video from my windows 10 laptop(dell xps 15) on my friends macbook pro 2019 and iphone my videos seem to have a yellow tint on skin tones(after turning off true tone). 2. In this thread they are mentioning some color uniformity report and issues of delta e of less than 3dC in corners and less than 2dC surrounding center and up to -15% brightness drop on corners on SW270c. hub.displaycal.net/forums/topic/buying-my-first-color-grading-monitor-sw270c-need-handholding-on-what-to-check/ Sorry for such silly doubts but I'm just trying to invest wisely and I really want a very consistent color accurate monitor.
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 4 жыл бұрын
Sure thing! DCI-P3 is the way to go. Any of these displays would do a good job. To answer your question, 1. Yes it does have Mbook color mode and it is design to mimic Apple Calibration which is a slightly modified DCI-P3. And should help you with the yellow tinting. 2. The uniformity is much better in the SW270C as far as uniformity delta e I don't use display cal in my testing, I use i1profiler. I professionally don't think that DisplayCal is the best program to test your display using, many time, 3rd party drivers because the developers don't want to pay to license the proper SDK. But that aside, the delta e is good. You can watch this kzbin.info/www/bejne/r6a7k2Z5dsmrapo It passes on the check. Here's what I think it really all comes down to, displays are like camera, people are going to throw spec, put it through synthetic test that has little to no real world difference as usage at all. This video toward the end will show you why anyone should not worry so much about ∆e value. You should be aware but if it is in range then you don't have to think about it. kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6vOgJ2Cbq-IgLc Also at this price point you are getting an amazing value. If you want the best and have money to spend then, I would look at the EIZO which can be up to 3x as much price wise. It is one of those relative thing, at this price point, I think that BenQ offers up the best value. If you want a good investment I would consider the SW270C and depending on where you are geographically, if you don't like it for some reason you can return it. I would not put too much weight into the forum discussion, it is more pixel peeping than real world use.

The i1display "pro" is a little pricy here in my country. 2. Is there an option to calibrate my monitor on rec709, display p3 and m-book in the palette master software? I'm on windows 10 so will I have to go to Display Settings>Advanced display settings>Display adapter properties for Display 1 or 2: and then add rec709 icc profiles? I'm a bit confused here.. I'm sorry Do I do this everytime I'm switching from rec709 to DCI-P3 and then change icc profiles? I'm so excited to use this for color grading videos specifically and if you could please help me set this up for that it'll really be so helpful. I'm so sorry if I didn't make sense in asking. Sure thing 1. i1Display Studio will not work kzbin.info/www/bejne/h56TZqOAiJ18pZI I can appreciate that the i1Display Pro is pricy but it is the best. Have you tried to find one on the used market or website? 2. REC 709 and Display P3 yes, M-Book is a preset color mode so no, but if you want M-Book then calibrate it to DCI-P3. If you use Resolve then calibrate it to REC 709. If you don't then calibrate it to just Panel Native and just leave it there. This video will explain why kzbin.info/www/bejne/j6fYXqadmcmhl5I If you custom calibrate your display with PME then you would use the PME generated profile. If you are using the preset color mode on the display then you can use standard REC 709 profile. Just know that it won't be as accurate as a custom calibration. This video will explain why and how kzbin.info/www/bejne/f6HYkplrrq2lpck If you change the calibration slot or color mode then yes you have to change the corresponding profile. But again if you are not using Resolved you don't really have to do this. Lastly, I would check out this video too kzbin.info/www/bejne/b4rXqZRppdKknbc this is a partial complete guide, the full complete one is coming in a few days.

Hi Art, I'm debating between SW270C and SW271. Do you know if there is any quality loss or other issues when I would scale down my Mac OS user interface to 2K with the SW271, opposed to native 2K (without any scaling) with the SW270C?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 5 жыл бұрын
Hi @San, I love them both. So to be honest with you, some have issues with 4K scaling in macOS, I personally love it. It makes the text much smoother (some say blurry) but I don't think so and I am super critical of my screen. And having 4K is nice because when I need more screen real estate I simply change the scaling to 4K or somewhere in between. Quality loss wise, I don't see it as such, but this can very from person to person. So here are a few things. 1. Do you need 4K? If you do then the SW271 is the one to get. However, if you are not sure or don't really need 4K. Then consider the following 2. If you want a really consistence panel with great color uniformity then the SW270C is the one. 3. If you are editing on a Mac laptop with USB Type, then you might want to consider the SW270C because it has 60 watt Power Delivery to the USB-C port. This makes it really great where 1 cable will power your computer and carry all of the io to the screen and port on the side. I hope that this help. Also I have compassion video coming up on the SW271 VS SW270C. It should be live in a few days. I also I have another video where I go into details about the USB cable hook up and that should come in about a week.

@@ArtIsRight Thanks for your quick reaction! I'm working on a Mac Mini 2018, so no need for USB-C power delivery. I will be using it mainly for video editing and color grading for web export (sRGB, no adobeRGB), which makes me doubt if I really need the 16 bit LUT and color uniformity upgrade. What do you think? I haven't decided yet whether I want to shoot/export in 2K or 4K.I'd say my preference goes to 4k, but this SW270C makes it quite hard for me to go for the SW271, because of the 270C upgrades I'd be missing out and possible scaling issues. You know there will be an upgraded "SW271" anytime soon? Btw, I'm aware of the PV series, but those dropped out for me because of size, older connections, etc. Looking forward to your next video.

@ArtIsRight 5 жыл бұрын
Hi @ San, you're welcome. So if you are planning to do 4k video then I would consider the SW271. This said you can always edit 4k on a 2K screen you, just won't be able to preview it at 100%. The PV line would be a good choice but as you said it has old connect. I would say that either screen will do and will work great in this case. I edit every on the SW320, which is a 4k display and I constantly scale the display through out the day depending on what I am editing. I'm going to a few shows with BenQ at the end of this month. I'll look more in to the PV line and see if I can do a video about them.

I would like to use a dual monitor setup w the sw270c as my primary display. I have a thunderbolt 3 dock which has a DisplayPort and TB3/usbc port for video. My question is it ok to plug the usbc port from the dock to the usbc input on the monitor? Not sure what happens since that usbc port on the monitor is capable of PD. I’d like to light up the other USB ports on the monitor but I’m not sure on the connections.

Connection should work just fine, don't worry about power delivery, it either needs it a request it, or does not. There's nothing in between. Other than that I would see if SW270C can calibrate OK with the dock, if it does you are good, if not, then by pass the dock.

I am a bit hesitant which monitor to buy. The more I research, the less I know. I do photo editing (primarily for web, occasionally for print). I don't have any external device for color calibration though. Video editing (HD more than 4K my laptop struggles with 4K in premiere pro). I'd also use it for my home office setup, split the monitor into 2 screens, no editing work done, with different Lenovo laptops. I didn't want to go above 500 euros, max. would be 700. BenQ is one of the brands I've been considering, but I'm lost between the many models. Any suggestions?

Do you edit 4K professionally? If not I would stick with 2k, less taxing on the system, GPU and your eyes. 4K will play on a 2K display scaled down at 50%. Personally, I don't mind that, but some do. Hope this helps. For photo editing, 2K is idea.

If i want to use sw2700pt as secondary monitor with a MacBook pro... Then how to calibrate macbook screen and sw2700pt to get the same color on both? If i calibrate macbook software calibrated and monitor hardware calbrated and save as a profile, does that software calbrated macbook output for the monitor is affected? Or the software calibration only show in macbook screens and output on monitor is being unaffected and show the profile output?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 5 жыл бұрын
Hi @Shirsendu Here are some additional info from my earlier answer. Your MBP can out put 2 color profile. So for the internal display it will output the software calibration. For the BenQ, your MBP will output the icc generated by palette master element. So to answer the last questions, yes, your computer will automatically separate the profile. Like I said before you can get the color close but it would be an exact match because of different back light and display technology.

@@ArtIsRight Thanks Arti ...what is the AQCOLOR Technology? specs say sw270c has more colors ,but both displays have same amount of 1.07 Billion Colors:) Also the HDR on my screen is off,i cant turn it on.. And last ,i have the displayport 1.2 cable..do i need the 1.4 to get the full potential for photography editing/photoshop? or displayport 1.2 still works great?
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 4 жыл бұрын
@Marios, AQColor is not so much a technology as much as it is marketing term or moniker by the BenQ marketing. In a sense it encompasses all of the advanced technology that BenQ has build into their display. May I ask where did you see the spec saying that the SW270C has more color? What the SW270C has is a new updated 16 BIT LUT build into the display, where as all of the other model has a 14 BIT LUT, I am referring to the color lookup table that is build into the chip inside the display. In this case 16 BIT is a larger lookup table than a 14 BIT, I would think of this as more accurate color reference rather than seeing more colors. HDR on the screen when playing back through the computer is limited. The best connector to use HDR on is when you hook up a BlueRay Player or a game console that is compatible with HDR via HDMI Port. Computer OS are now starting to support HDR play back but that is not a guarantee. Regarding the Display Port Cable, I would use the one that is included with the display. This said the newer standard for cable mostly support higher resolution and higher refresh rate. Nothing that is relevant for photo editing. Hope this help!

@@ArtIsRight thanks for being honest: 1.I cant turn on HDR on my sw270cc ,why is that? i dont know what i am doing wrong 2.So did you find that sw270c is indeed more color accurate or is it just another marketing term (the 16bit lut)
@ArtIsRight
@ArtIsRight 4 жыл бұрын
@Marios, first off for HDR you need Display Port 1.4 cable. Secondly, what are you connecting to your display that you want to turn HDR on, Mac or PC? Like I mentioned before, HDMI cable, sadly would be the better choice for HDR content and the source general does not originate from a computer. This means that it will come from a blue ray player or set top box. Secondly, the best way for me to put it is that the SW270C is inline with all of the other SW series. The 16 Bit LUT gives it more capability but for normal human vision and viewing, you can’t really see that much of a different even for the best of us. So I would not worry about that aspect so much, I would choose a display that best fits your needs.

If the other HDMI display work then I would try BenQ again and select the source. If not then I would suggest contacting BenQ for further support, it may be a hardware defect. If you have the SW270C then I would make sure that you have the proper HDMI selected there are 2 HDMI ports on the newer display.
