THIS…..THIS is freaking BRILLIANT. My door boot is 16+ years old, and the outer spring came off and ended up in the main drum area. I sort-of noncommittally jiggled it back to sort of in place, and it still leaks. I can tell just by watching here that this will work really well.

Worked way better than I expected. The only issue was the tie would slip out of the eye in the spring. Had to squeeze the eye a bit more to close it. Wish I knew this the last time I had to take the gasket off. It saved me from buying a tool I hope to never need again. Good job.

I had to tackle this alone without an expander. This trick, did the trick. I had to use double zip ties on each end, but once in place, I cut one one each side and the spring stress broke the other two. Works great. Thank you.

Soooooo frustrating to get to the very end of taking all the front parts of my Samsung washer apart to replace the drain pump (successfully!), getting it back together and be stumped by this last step. I have the same type washer as shown in this video. Its about 2 years old and all of a sudden it would start spinning but would stop after about 5 seconds. There are very few videos on you tube because it is so new. I found the trouble code and troubleshooting on one of your videos. The trouble shooting indicated the problem was with the Hall Sensor. Looking at other videos on hall sensors it appeared that they just clip on and would be easy to replace. Using info from another one of your videos, I opened up the machine but there was no hall sensor visible. It appeared that the hall sensor was built in to the motor so I replaced the motor. Machine still did not work. I got a wiring diagram from GE it it appeared the hall sensor is connected to the inverter board. I replaced the inverter board and the machine works like new. I was also very thankful for your video on expanding the spring to reinstall the rubber gasket!!!!! Your videos were very helpful. I don't know how to do you tube videos, but I thought I would pass this along so you might do a video some time in the future. Thanks again!!

I totally used this tip this morning! Every time I tried to squeeze the two ends together, it would pull the gasket off its spot. Pre-stretching the spring to pretty close to clearing the gasket gave me the time to make sure the spring was in place before I cut the wire ties. popped right on! I also used a 5/8" wrench and 8" wire ties as suggested. Wife was getting ancy about getting her washer back. thanks, for the great tip!

I had already purchased the spring expansion tool on Amazon. The issue was the size of the prongs on the tool, the one eyelet on the spring was too small. This hack was amazing, although I did need to make one adjustment. The zip ties also were too wide to fit through the eyelet with the spring inserted. I adjusted this hack by using sisal twine, tied that end tight, had long enough zip ties to attach to the other spring eyelet and expand the spring per the hack. I did need to make a further adjustment, I doubled the sisal twine, as a single strand broke as I expanded the spring. Greatest hack ever!!

I just used zip ties straight through the eyelets on a Samsung spring several years ago, using the tails as pull handles to spread the spring after I had proximately placed it in the seal groove. It worked a treat after I carefully cut the ties and pulled them out of the eyelets using a bit of detergent as lube! Your method looks more controllable.

I later saw the pliers & thought it wasn't that hard to spend that much money for something I'll probably never do again. My seal just blew out with several holes & a big rip. Some reason my wife seems to think her ink pens need washing from time to time. Great idea, think outside the box. Saw this hack a few years back. Now that I need to replace it, this video came up on my 1st search and works great. For women, a cuticle cutter works great to cut the tie, but working the tie in place will require the needle nose plier. If you are OCD like me, use a soft nail filer w/ a curb edge to push the seal back tightly without puncturing.
