Coming straight from the mouths of the best drivers. Telling Toyota "You did a good job, but you can do better, here are some suggestions.." Super cool!

It’s good that some car manufacturers still producing cars with manual transmission, might not be efficient like AT but manual is sure as hell fun to drive.
Super thankful for the English subtitles! Arigato gozaimasu! 🙇♂

I drove both of them, and absolutely loved the manual one, much more raw and easy to play with... In terms of pure performance you lose a bit on a straight line - you always have to take the 'effort' to shift - but it seems faster and gives you such a control feeling. Fortunately, it seems these three fine gentlemen agree with me... eheheh!

For drifting and fun at circuits its good to have MT. However 99% of MT Supras will spend most of the "raw, look i can handle manual" life on highway in 6th speed followed by 1>2>N shifts in city
@hamstersizedasian Жыл бұрын
@@beastlysun to be fair, most cars even with AT will spend 90% of their time on commuting anyways (with the exception of garage queens).

even if the manual was 5 seconds slower i would still choose it without a second to waste.

Pretty amazing that there's only 10kg/22lbs difference in transmission weights. Not all that long ago when manuals were more prevalent, that difference could be multiple seconds on a lap/50-100lbs advantage for a manual.

It is so hard to buy a supra new, everyone wants one. Let this be a lesson to all automakers ; we don't want sports cars, we want good sports cars. Sports cars that are made with passion, with performance and function in mind and a MANUAL transmission.

Amazing battle!! Would love to see a GRMN supra. I’ve driven an A90 and A91, the handling was SO much better in the 91, VERY impressed. Would love to try a manual!! But would love to see Toyota do a GRMN Supra. ❤

Thank you for the amazing video! I don’t understand the electronic parking brake fad. Seems a mechanical lever would be so much simpler and is what everyone wants, especially with a manual.
@ARCNA442 Жыл бұрын
Electronic brakes have a ton of advantages. You're replacing a set of cables and pulleys that have to be routed through the car and are exposed to the elements with a small electric motor. The result is simpler to install, takes up less space, and requires less maintenance. It's also safer since the average driver never uses their parking brake, but an electronic brake can be programmed to engage automatically.

@danielcamacho1913 Жыл бұрын
@@ARCNA442 In other words, the electric parking brake is for the manufacturer's benefit, not the driver, unless the driver is so obtuse as to need an automated nanny brake. And now, instead of cables exposed to the elements (which I've never experienced or heard of a problem with that) now you've got that small electric motor exposed, don't you?
@Seramics Жыл бұрын
@@danielcamacho1913while you have your point. You gotta adjust the driver word, its for the benefits of the driver, but not sports driver. How often will a user of MT Supra, drift and use the parking brake in the process. Thats only a very tiny subset of the users who buy Supra for sporting reasons, which is already itself a tiny population.

Automatics will always be potentially faster, but banging gear shifts just makes any car more fun.
One thing que can learn is no matters AT or MT. The supra is enjoyable and fast in both ways and now Toyota offers you the MT if you like Drive like always was.

not just hand brake lever, we need a dipstick too. eliminate that stupid sensor & sop of starting the engine just to check engine oil lever & condition. dipstick is the safest as we can check the oil lever & condition without having the start the motor. what if the oil isn't good or sufficient for the engine to run but you just have to start it to check it. it's dumb move by bmw. even bmw racing team has a delete kit & install a dipstick instead on 1 of their track engines.
There is I think a flaw in roadcar philosophy, the aim at comfort and driveability for everyone on maximum safety of the drivetrain, I think has the opposite effect of detaching the driver from the car, that leads to having non-experienced drivers, get a false sense of stability and safety. And I think that is a very real and serious problem with fast cars on the roads this days. To express it in a funny way, "is better that the begginer crash it on the curve comming out the dealership, than them thinking they can drive it at 250kp/h+ every day, when they don´t". High speeds are supposed to make you feel unsafe, that´s awareness, and that makes you a better and safer driver. And if anyone thought I meant driving slow, it doesn´t, it means knowing what fast is. That´s exactly what DK means on 11:46, that futility is awareness, and focus and connection with the car, and gives better control and much more feedback to react and counteract. And also, mt is great for experienced drivers, and AT is great if you are and experienced driver and programmer or have a programmer sitting next to you all the time. hhahaha(that´s why I really enjoy beeing a competent driver and tunner, just right to enjoy the car from the pit and from the cockpit, hehe). That is what Max comments on 22:31, the lag of throttle response will always be there on at because it is a middle ground for every driver of that car, and also almost no tuner knows what throttle response to input on cornering when programming, it´s a consensus with the test driver feedback. I don´t know why there isn´t more talk about AT and drive by wire throttle adaptability to each driver, I suppose it has certain dangers to the road involved
@dsleong8328 Жыл бұрын
Simply put,when driving on the road,you need to put 100% on it, that's why manual is still relevant no matter how good the car tech progress
