John and Terry assess the adjustments made as a result of Kirby's first fitting a few months back in March. I love the shirt, especially the collar. As Stephen pointed out Kirby has a long neck so he suits this size and shape of collar. I also love the colour of the linen suit and the blue suspenders. I'm sure the quality is amazing. But what surprised me was needing to have the extra fabric around the lower back armholes; they are the first thing I questioned but I trust what Terry said was needed. I'm also so pleased to see a female in the group - lovely Suyamba.

I popped in on the 4th Jan and ordered a pair of trousers. Terry was completely first class and guessed exactly which cloth I was looking for. I mustn’t forget either the delightful Mollie who measured me. Roll on the first fitting.

Linen is the best investment I’ve made in clothes. The material is so lightweight and breathes. Stayed cool all summer, even with sleeves down, looking forward to doing it again this summer.

It’s rare to see shoulder pleats and back darts on the same shirt. But it’s actually very practical. Pleats for better arm shoulder movement whilst darts for closer fit around the waist. Will try that for my next custom shirt.

Very interesting. I didn't realize how particular a shirtmaker can be making such minor adjustments. I like the Italian discussion. Their clothes seem so very tight looking to my eye. I would not want the Italian look. I like patch pockets on a linen jacket like this one. I have seen photographs of some of the elegant movie stars from the past wearing jackets with patch pockets with a pocket square. I like double vents on jackets. Each to their own. Thank you for all involved in making this video.

A linen jacket or suit definitely suggests increased casualness and I've always loved the look of patch pockets all around, especially with a ticket pocket. The other nice thing with patch pockets is that you can give them the bellows design like with shooting jackets or a wine glass shape for that extra added visual flair that you can't do with flap pockets.

This was an enjoyable watch and a very well selected Linen cloth for a summer suit especially in Texas weather. Just curious to know if there was a specific reason to have this linen suit fully lined instead of opting for half-lining or no lining? Wouldn't this affect the breathability of the linen cloth?

I think that collar works quite well with the suit. The wider collar wouldn’t be properly accentuated by the suit. It’s the right choice in my opinion.

Just with the shirt, I have loads of questions… Would it be possible to have the materials shrunk ahead of time that way you keep the fit as exact as possible? If the buyer isn’t going to use it with a tie, do you modify the collar for a more relaxed fit? If they aren’t going to fasten the top button but wants the opening higher or lower than the normal second button from the top, do you design the shirt holes and buttons accordingly? (If that makes any sense..) I’ve had a few back surgeries and take meds that have caused me to gain weight. Finding a shirt and suit off the rack is very difficult, I would love to see how a bigger person gets fitted for a custom shirt or suit.

Some shirt makers used pre shrunk shirting material. My first shirt was by Hilditch & Key well over 20 years ago they used pre shrunk on all their shirts at the time.

Got my first linen suit this year in a lighter shade of navy. Very happy so far as the color is so versatile I can pair it same as Navy blazer or odd jacket and quite appropriate for the office. My only challenge is getting used to the natural wrinkles of the linen. It's just a look I'm not used to.

as for the shirt, the fabric looks great. however, it was too roomy in the body and the stripes on the yoke were not matched to the stripes on the sleeves. for a bespoke service, that is disappointing.. the suit looks well done. i like how the jacket looks on you from the side. not a fan of the 3 button look due to the shorter lapels. but the squarer patch pockets look quite pleasing!

Yes, they do! One of the most under-utilized aspects of bespoke tailoring! Take a look at Chittleborough & Morgan as well. Joe Morgan has done some utterly fantastic classically-tailored womenswear.

I question your decision to go with braces for these trousers. I think you are adding more formal elements to a casual cloth. I think this is somewhat unharmonious. You are losing the option to wear these trousers with a button-down, short sleeve, polo etc. I would like to see you wear that beautiful shirt with the sleeves rolled up and chill and now you can't!

This is why Bespoke is dying in UK. Utmost respect to the tailors but the fit is probably like 50 yrs too dated. Hence why if you go to the Row a lot of tailors had gone. You need people like Michael Browne whos a tailor but also make clothes more relevant today. For any none UK viewers here, no one wears a hat with a suit in London, if you do people think you are going to a dress up party or you just came from a movie set.

...I beg to differ. Most of the Savile Row tailors honor a classic, timeless aesthetic that will ensure that the garment endures time. But for those who want something more "relevant" and modern, there are those like Joe Morgan at Chittleborough & Morgan and Michael Brown who can offer that.
