Great comparison! Thank you for doing these. After owning both corded and battery Makita, Dewalt and Milwaukee tools side-by-side on job sites for years, I settled in on the Milwaukee battery platform a few years ago and sold or gave away all the corded and non-Milwaukee stuff. The Milwaukee tools and batteries are always reliable solid performers. I find these days that I grab the much smaller Milwaukee Hackzall for 80% of daily recip cut tasks and only need to haul out the big Sawzall for beast-mode work.

Same exact for me on the Milwaukee sawzall....a sharp blade and a straight cut with no binding will make for so much cutting with the M12....the big M18 is on standby for me 80% of the time.

I run the Dewalt platform simply because I felt it was a solid brand several years ago when I started switching my tools to cordless. They haven’t ket me down once, so won’t be buying new tools, hopefully for quite a while. The wifi hookup you can do with the Milwaukee doesn’t interest me at all, as I don’t have time to fiddle with it, and don’t care if gets up and starts talking to me, just as long as it does a solid job. Great tests and information. Always look forward to your side-by-sides, especially when you get so many brands to participate. I kinda doubt Porter Cable liked the findings, but I’m pretty sure they already know how they’re tools perform. Oh, I like that you chose to put Santa on your branded clothes, just in time for Christmas.

I have that super sawzall and why I love it in the beginning throughout the time that I've owned it I just don't like it as much. One of the biggest issues is the vibration ruins the battery port so when that becomes damaged, you get interment use from the tool. Since then I've switched to Metabo HPT saw and that's a very powerful saw so surprised it didn't do so well. I think the testing over emphasizes speed of cut while that's important. You usually don't go full blast as that can be a hindrance to the cut. I hate seeing my guys go full blast banging the tool and actually taking longer on a cut by creating more unnecessary vibration. I think so these saws that tested above the Metabo HPT would be excellent saws. I've tried almost all of them so I think you shouldn't over think it. Plus the Metabo HPT is also much cheaper

Have had and abused the kobalt xtr for a couple of years and have been super impressed. All my kobalt stuff has done great and is the best value out there. I still use makita impact and circular saws though.

I sincerely hope the monetization of this video will cover the cost of your BLADES, holy cow. Despite the high score of the metabo, I don't see that plastic release lever lasting. I've used a gen1 Sawzall to cut up everything from home appliances to metal swimming pool liner walls, and it's been amazing. I'm on a gen2 milwaukee now. No surprise they scored so high in this test.

Nope it's just an upgraded Kobalt lol. Chervon has been killing it for years just didn't get the recognition it deserved cause it didn't have a true Pro line of tools. Now they have Ego, Flex, Kobalt, Skil, hell they even do Menards Masterforce line of power tools. They've got a big box of goodies.

Longevity is key....I realize you can't test that but I wouldn't recommend any of the newer brands until enough time has gone by and they have proven how well they hold up to the brutality of the typical worksite. Milwaukee loyalist here but I have equal respect for DeWalt, Makita, Hitachi and some others. Ryobi and Kobalt are earning some rep in this category and have always been less money and a good choice for the tight budget buyers.

Great video , like you mentioned early in the video, 4 to 6amp batteries were use to keep the test even, some of the manufacturers don't offer larger batteries, the Milwaukee super sawzall combo comes with a 12 amp battery just needs to be considered.

I think both Milwaukees were tested with the 6ah HO, which for this type of tool, should give the highest power (the 12ah will give longer runtime and higher sustained power over time due to less droop under load, but I think the 6ah is capable for this use case and has higher peak numbers). According to TTC testing, the 6ah HO battery uses the highest discharge 21700 cells (peak discharge current is good for peak power), and 6ah is what I reach for when I want the highest power out of my small and mid size Milwaukee tools. 12ah for the bigger stuff like the chainsaws, mowers, blowers, table saw, etc. Fwiw, I have the old school brushed Sawzall and it has much less power needs than the 2721/22, 2822, so maybe the 8ah HO or 12ah HD is needed for peak, although I wonder about size and weight with a 12ah hanging off the back lol.

@@LewisS6 the xc3, ho6, ho8 and hd12 all use 21700 cells, but they do not all use the same 21700 cells. This particular tool's power needs may be high enough that the ho6 suffers drop under sustained load, but the 6 outperforms the 8 and 12 in many of the small and medium size tools.

@@LewisS6 my mistake, I meant cp3.0, which does use 21700s (I forgot xc3.0 was even a thing as its kind of pointless and I don't own any). There are several videos testing this on Torque Test Channel, aVe, and some others, that are worth watching, comparing the specifications/ratings/performance of the specific 18650/21700 Samsung cells used in each battery size. Off the top of my head, it was the 40T in the 8ah and 30T in the 6ah, as they are both 5s2p but trade performance for capacity. I don't recall what's in the hd12, and if it's 30T, maybe it's losing some performance to the configuration, but small tools repeatably produce higher power using the HO6 vs HO8 or HD12, although the larger tools pretty well mandate the HD12. The HD12 is 15 cells in 5s3p, right? So did they put 40T in it as well? That would definitely cause lower performance on small tools but its resistance to voltage sag under the heavier sustained loads.

I think in the near future we are going to see a plateau in raw power these tools can provide and instead see more of them going in the direction milwaukee is with one-key, the features and optimization it can give will be at a premium when a power limit is reached. I also think safety will be up there (like we are seeing with the anti kickback in drills) I think what flex has done with the vibration reduction will be replicated and improved on for sure. Really good to see how competition is driving really cool and useful innovations in these newer power tools.

Flex isn't the first to put anti vibration in their recip saw. Might be the first American company maybe, but Bosch, Makita and Hikoki/Metabo HPT have had some form of vibration mitigation in some of their saws for years.

@@N1rOx I've used a Bosch and Metabo Sawzalls in the past and their vibration mitigation doesn't come anywhere close to the Flex. You really can't understate the accomplishment of the Flex team to make such a power yet smooth saw, buddy of mine hopped in on their tools and his flex recip saw blows my milwaukee out of the waters in terms of vibration reduction and speed. Granted my milwaukee is a few years old at this point.

@@speak_na a few things. Which Bosch saw did you specifically use? Same with metabo. A lot of them don't have vibration mitigation at all so you may have used one that didn't have one. Also, there are currently two saws on the market that have excellent vibration mitigation and have more power than that flex. One such saw has been on the market since 2017.. Not to clip the flex's wings, it's just not a new thing and I just don't think flex is special in any way because they are the first American company to bring one to the table.

Many people use reciprocating saws with the blade mounted upside down when cutting under door frames. Depending on the person, they usually use it with the blade attached upside down. Therefore, the grip shape of the reciprocating saw should be a shape that is easy to use even if it is used upside down. Metabo products should be difficult to use if used upside down.

No doubt that the 36volt Metabo is far and above any of these lower voltage sawzall and head to head with the super sawzall it outperforms it mainly because of its vibration dampening. I work at a scrap yard and use sawzalls 8 hrs a day 5 days a week and the only saw that hasn't given out on me within 3 months is the Metabo 36volt. And the cherry on top is that the Metabo has the 120volt adapter for when your batteries die! Not to mention it is cheaper than all 3 of the big 3's saws

I've become something of 'the guy to ask' when it comes to power tool selection. You guys are partly to blame for that 😎. I'm hoping that some channel is going to handle the question of when do you need a 18v-/-20v tool verses a 12volt power tool. I think I'm getting this question because several tool brands have a good selection of 12v powered tools. Most of the time, my answer is, "that depends.?" Usually on more factors than they've bothered to consider. I usually tell them to some of their own research and recommend you guys.

Great work. I hope that some day soon the US government (or other) begins to mandate battery interface uniformity, so we can evaluate tools independently from the batteries, and chose and use the battery manufacturers and AH capacities that we want. This applies from the little 2AH up to the quad 12AH ridding mowers. I can see using a $300 battery in several $99 tools. Maybe you can help influence this trend.

Used my Dewalt to cut up an entire 50 foot tree as big as a 5 gallon bucket at the base, limbs and all. Took 2 8ah batteries and two blades and about 4 hours. That's a real world test. It is a beast. I could have used a chainsaw, but wanted to see what it was capable of.

Why on earth would you choose to exclude higher voltage machines? I could not disagree more, especially since the two best recip saws currently on the market (Makita XGT gen 2 and Hikoki Multivolt) runs on 36 volts.

Weird call on the 4ah with the Hilti. I know that they probably recommend it because the 8ah is huge but the 4ah holds their stuff back as much as any single row pack on any tool will. Recips are a weird beast. This week I have a gen 2 XGT and that Hilti and they will randomly eat each other’s lunch. They also trade off on vibration.

They chose not to release the regular two row 18650 battery pack here which is resulting in them recommending a compact battery for everything since the 8ah is so large. Even the impact driver and 6-22 drill are held back by the 4ah. Strangely, the mid torque impact wrench is an oddball and performs the same. I’ve gotten used to it, but it was definitely something that irked me at first. All of that 21700 hype getting to everyone’s head.

Luv your vids but don't understand the 35C saws not being included Our go to sawzall has been the 36V Metabo HPT which has replaced out Milwaukee, Makita and DeWalt saws over the last 3yrs Best in power, speed, warranty, price and can also be plugged in to the 36V AC adapter If your worried about size/amp hour just use the 18V amp hour equivalent sized battery So the 2.5ah@ 36V/5.0ah@18V If the saws and batteries are the same size Who cares about voltage-its not even relevant

Still waiting for the 18v porta bandsaw comparison. One thing I've noticed with Milwaukee lately (company provided tools so no money on my part spent) they still remain the most powerful but longevity has really gone down. The recip saws might be a bit better but we don't use them as much. But their new line of 18V bandsaw are garbage for reliability compared to the older ones. Lots of issues with the rubber on the wheels and the blade staying aligned for straight cuts. 18V drills drivers burning out after a few months of typical electrical work, new sds plus randomly loosing power. All the tools being the higher line fuel ones too

Thank you for the great video. Quick comment: I believe price is an important piece of information to use in "total rank" (and, you could have two separate tables if you like, such as "$ per feature", vs. just "features"). As you commented, using price could give an unfair advantage to the DIY tools vs. the pro tools. However, that being said, the DIY tools should then also have points deducted as features, durability, performance, etc., come in with a lower ranking. IOW, I'd prefer to spend $150 on a saw that needs to be thrown away in 2 years (allowing me to get the latest features) as opposed to spending $300 on a saw that needs to be discarded in 3 or 4 years, making me wait an additional two years to get the upgrade. It's like buying Bob's Discount Furniture, knowing you can fully swap it out in three to five years, as opposed to spending $25,000 at Raymore Flanagan and then being stuck with the furniture for the rest of your life (and God forbid it's brown).

Flex is excellent on vibration control, that tech comes from their orbital, rotary, and forced rotation polishers, some of the best in the world along with Rupes. I own a few sawzalls and hate the blade change one one of them, i think its the super sawzall non one key. The collet has to be pulled and rotated if I recall, just a hassle and tight behind that shoe and have to run the saw to stop it with the collet in fwd postion. Performance has been excellent otherwise. I would not buy it again because of the blade change hassle.

I'm definitely happier with my Milwaukee 2821 that is 3-4 lbs less weight than the Flex or the Makita 40v. Higher weight is a negative to me.

The cutting test score rankings are weird. I know their timed but it's funny how one can score like three or four in cutting the wood and then 15 or 16 and cutting the metal just seems odd. And except for the Hilti which you can't really get except for a professional place most of the saws are usually available on sale for much lower prices but what you did is obviously correct You got to look at the price at the time of your test. And you really should use the jig for all the cuts cuz all the other ones have human error factored in

The flex has very low vibration. I own the ryobi, Milwaukee gen 2 and the flex. I use the flex on my daily job and I'm so used to it that when I pick up the other two I'm like wheres my flex. I think there's no excuse to tool companies in the last couple years that when a new saw is released it should have less and less vibration

You guys used the weaker of the skil 20v recip saws (there are 3) and put it in the same test as the dewalt XR and the other super beefy boys? There is the compact, the one you used, then there is skil's own big boy 20v brushless recip saw (beefier design than the one you used) using an included 4ah battery.

I love my Flex sawzaw. The vibration control was my greatest demand and it performed. I had the same problem that you guys had with the guard. It does get stuck. I used some wd40 and now it flows smoothly. Ya, not a great design.

WD-40 uis a solvent, not a lubricant fyi. You should get some dry lithium that doesn't attract dust to lube.
