I am a yoga instructor and create long yoga classes for my channel. My canon mark 2 is driving me crazy when i forget about the 30 min recording limit. So the no limit feature is a great point. 4k of course is great too. I’ve been looking to get a mirrorless camera for second angle , the fact that it has good autofocus is great too, with canon mark 2 it’s only manual, so when I move making my workout video there is a chance of going out of focus. And as a mom of two babies continuous autofocus is major thing 😅 babies move too fast The only thing that bothers me is the stabilization. Also are there adapters to mount canon lenses on sony? The one thing I don’t like is the way the screen flips up, with the mic attached it blocks the screen :( but I get that companies are always trying to make smal differences to make them stand out.....if the flip screen went down rather than up or to the side I wouldn’t be able to resist lol

What surprised me is that it had better features than the a6500 if I recall correctly. What I really like about it most is the nice onboard mic because I plan to shoot some dirt bike edits this year and I need a good camera and gimbal to start out with to get some really good shots. And this is cheaper than the a6500 and a6300 at the same time. Thanks for putting this out, this is really gonna help me get good footage on a budget.

The Sony audio is always pretty tight. I used to use the Nex-F3 for vlogging and it was great for audio and video, especially outside. The auto focus on this is crazy though! I might get this.

You need a fast lens. The F indicator should be as small as possible. For example a 50mm F1.8. I have this lens kit and it looks fantastic! Sharp, bright and cool blurred background. The smaller the F number is, the blurrier the background, the crisper the focused image and brighter it will be. If you shoot in bright daylight an nd filter will also help you.

Smaller f stop number gives less depth-of-field (focus) BEHIND whatever is focused upon; you have a greater depth in front of “subject”.

We have the a6000. I love it, but hate that it shuts itself down after 20 minutes or so. I think eventually I would love to sell mine so I can upgrade to this camera! I don't think i'll be able to decide between this and the m50. the m50 seems to have a lot cheaper lens options and the flippy screen seems like it'd be better. The a6400 has 120fps in HD tho. If only the a6400 had 960fps like the rx100s... it'd be a no brainer. Thoughts?

So I've been on the fence about dropping cash on my own gear for awhile now. For context I am starting to do a lot more media production stuff, instagram content, youtube, live streaming, both for business but also helping in church. For fun I do some short film stuff. Borrowing gear (which is easy for me from my university or from friends) is finally becoming a logistical issue. I almost bought an a7ii to make the jump to full frame, but the lack of 4k was a big detractor as a lot of what I do, particular in the independent film making scene, kinda demands it. Eventually I want to go full frame but portability is also a priority for me so for run-n-gun shooting a compact camera will always be useful, so here's my game plan and id love to have feedback on it. Im thinking of buying a a6400 because it fixes all of my issues with the prior models, i can shoot stills and 4k with autofocus while running a shotgun mic and also do stream broadcasting from it. Additionally, I can buy full frame FE lenses and still use them with the camera (just dealing with crop factor) while I wait to eventually buy an a7iis or a7iii a year or two from now. Does that seem like a reasonable plan?

Nice recap of the a6400...looking forward for the full review. I think Sony approach to the a6400 is that you will use the flip up screen with the internal on-board audio or attach a mic and not use the flip up screen (or mount a different way). They did not want to be in a position with removing the hotshoe (like the a5100) and then people would be disappointed in that. Or they omit Flip Up screen and the other half are upset. Adding a $10 bracket from Amazon allows you to do both. For me, without IBIS this is not enough of an upgrade over my 6300, especially since you cannot use for walking/vlogging with third a party lenses (since they are not stabilized).

This camera is interesting for me particularly for it’s excellent focusing in 4K but the position of the articulating view finder would be a deal killer for me. Following Sean’s advice I purchased the Canon M50 with the kit lense. I really don’t feel a need to shoot in 4K for my KZbin Channel. Most viewers watch KZbin on their phones or computers. Thanks for your high level of reviewing and teaching professionalism. As a retired professor I can easily say “Think Media” is the “State Of The Art” in KZbin video creation education.

4K vs 1080p video is like 50 mp vs 24 mp photos. You don’t need more than 24 mp photos but 50 mp allows you to crop the photos more easily to create different photos without losing information. 4K allows cropping a scene to create a different scenes without losing information. But how many people need to crop a scene? Very very few. So for most people, 1080p is much more useful resolution - for speed of editing, storage space, computing needs and time, upload speed, etc.

Romeo Mariano i think 4K looks ever so slightly noticeably better and same would go for 40mp+ photos. They just have a more pro look to it. A bit sharper and a bit cleaner imo. Not enough to make bad/meh footage good, but more like making great footage or images breathtaking

Im looking into this. At first, i was thinking of gra bing the a6000 or a6300, but my consern (going from a Canon EOS m3) was no flip-up screen or mic input Jack. So thats probably what got me to really look into this camera. Also the fast auto focus, as the M3 is kind of slow, at least in low light. But the autofocus is kind of fast in all Sony Alpha cameras as ive understand. Ill just have to save up to afford it 😀 Also, any good "allround" lens, pref 18-105, with image stab? And a 10-18mm for vlog / closeup shots?
