African Americans are moving to Florida from other states plagued by persistent racism. However, some parts of Florida are worst than the places they are coming from? we break down all the major cities and point out areas that are safe, clean and growing.

100%. I am Black i live in Sarasota (SW FL) and there is not a lot of black people here. But the strangest thing happened, Nobody, not one single person said to me that i can't buy a house here. Beautiful City, picked a house purchased a house, and enjoying life. I feel like being poor is a choice nowadays. If you have a smartphone, a vehicle and a place to live. All it takes is motivation and you can earn good money.

Thank you for the information and your insight. One of my biggest beefs with Florida is exactly what you touched on finding affluent black neighborhoods. I have a feeling they exist, but due the history, current mindset of the "deep south" and redlining the racial neighborhood divides are very evident. Thank you for your honest opinion in the video. It was very helpful. Coming from NY and now living in the Maryland DC affluent black neighborhoods are very common which makes moving the Florida a lot more difficult (as much as I love the weather and beaches, lol). I was looking at Fort Lauderdale and St. Johns County as some point (and still flirt with the idea), but I hope to purchase a house in a diverse affluent neighborhood which is very difficult to find. I'm going to look more into Palm Beach (lol, where one of my cousins live)..Thanks a lot for the information, and trying to show more of a balance. Personally, I rather see the nice parts of towns for motivational and inspirational purposes.

The black neighborhoods was affuent in the 50s and 60s. They was thriving all over fl. Read about overtown the harlem of the south fl have a history of thriving black areas in the 40s 50s and 60s. You will have no promblem in florida. I live outwest and its the same thing. Poverty and crime ridden and i live in cali. To be honest its not really a affuent black neighborhood anywhere anymore. Most of them are trashed up and crime ridden. It will be really hard to find them pretty sure you can but its probably a small area. But Its diverse neighborhoods all over fl. If i was you i would take a trip. What jose said in the video some things i agreed on and some i didnt. Because im from fl to. Its not that hard to find a diverse neighborhood in fl. We a diverse state as a whole. Being from ganiesville which he described as kind of segragted we are very diverse VERY!!!. Just got to move to the right area. Take a trip and see for yourself remember this is jose opinion but you can see a different outlook . Plus maps can be wrong at times. Overly exaggrated.

With people seeing cali as a diverse friendly free state ITS NOT. I feel like its wayyy worse out here than in fl. Espeacially between the mexican and blacks. Its areas in la where blacks cant even go because the mexicans dont like them. Cali is heavily racist and segragated as well its gang wars between the mexicans and black in la. Have been for decades its always been a racial issue never heard of that in fl for the most part we get alone with them. I live here and see it first hand and heard stories on it. Its not only a southern thing. Its all over. Now maybe in Alabama its probably worse and get that deep south feeling but fl not bad. Also remember fl have more snowbirds than actuall born floridans. Its in the data. So they can as well pollute fl with they mindsets once again just come see for yourself. Cant go by what somebody else say 100%. They may have a different view than you do

There are no policies in any city in Florida that says Black people cant buy a home here. If you cant afford the cost of the house in that city, that dont mean the city is racist. It just means that buyer needs to find a way to earn more money. I would love to be able to own a house on Lido Key, but i can't afford it. That dont make Lido key racist. Just means i need to do better.

Me and my husband in live in Polk County and it’s diverse but also racist at the same time, looking to move outta Lakeland. My husband Spanish and I’m black. I love South Florida but very expensive. I like Deerfield Beach and West Palm Beach, love Fort Launderdale but we can’t afford. Can you do a video like this about Texas. We are thinking transitioning there cuz it’s cheaper in TX and more culturally diverse and not sure what city is good. I heard Houston is the most diverse city in Texas. Years ago I took a job in St. Petersburg. My job was on Gandy Bl north of St Pete. After I checked in with the job. I started looking for an apartment. Each time i was told it had been rented, or the manager wasn't there or some other excuse. When I finally found a place the sun had gone down. The next day I drove around and found out i was in the heart of the hood. When I tried to buy a house i went to a realtor on the North side and she took me straight to south St. Pete. I only got pulled over once for DWB when I was there. He said he pulled me over for having out of state plates. On the other hand I bought a new car then I ran a light in downtown St. Pete and got stopped. He let me go and told me to be careful, he said he would hate to see anything happen to this pretty new car. I was told aout certain places to not go like Pinellas Park. That was where the Klan was. I would move back if I were rich. One of my fondest memories is sitting on my balcony drinking Bloody Marys with my neighbors, a Canadian couple. With Desantis in office, i would probably just rent a nice place on the beach. This guy really has a hard on for Black people.

As a Black Floridian whose lived here my entire life in Jax & Miami, I feel like Black areas are less “racially hostile” towards out of state Blacks because in segregated areas racists people are more likely to live further away and not visit your community. So people feel less defensive. I think there is more racial tension in racial mixed areas tbh. I learned about it in sociology in college and I’m currently experiencing it. There is tension for white & nonblack residents about how many Black people move into their communities due to property values still being connected to race and people believing stereotypes about our race. I spent my summers growing up in the majority Black & Caribbean Northwest Miami and I didn’t see hostilities toward newcomer Black families. I feel like the sentiment expressed by the poster fits more for White & Asian Hispanic/Latin people moving to these areas. Though I absolutely appreciate the breakdowns with the maps. I learned a lot of interesting information about my state thru this video.

It's very peaceful in South Carolina. No joke! No racial riots or tension. The whites here are so easy to get along with, they're almost family. It's ironic because SC is a Republican state and there is a history of slavery but seriously, most of us are getting along like brothers and sisters. I was born and raised in SC, so I'm speaking based on personal experiences and what I have seen. Almost every Caucasian I have run across has been nice, helpful and engaging in conversations. Can't speak for everyone but for the most part, it's peaceful. There aren't many Hispanics as there are in Florida but the ones I have met have been nice as well. I live in a mixed neighborhood, mostly whites and blacks. The stuck up people just keep to themselves, lol. They don't bother anyone and vice versa.

The reason why you receive negative criticism is because you’re making money off of the study of African Americans and African diaspora without being apart of and both giving back to. You creating a narrative about a people group that you’re not apart of will always do this because you’re objectifying people whether in a good or bad way, and there’s much more nuance to people that you could never convey. The disparate of the people group may be too vulnerable ignorant or burdened to voice this consciously and the affluent maybe too unbothered, preoccupied or ignorant… however there are conscious people amongst every class and to distill an entire people group to “black good” or “black bad” is essentially what you’re doing and it’s disgusting.

To be fair there could be people of any race that wouldn’t like being recorded by a stranger. May I suggest you go to some of these areas without your camera and interact first and then film after you got the vibe. I’ve lived in Jacksonville, FL most of my life. I’m like a fourth gen resident. I will also ask you to consider the rampant gentrification going on in black historic areas around Florida before you decide how hostile people are. I’m from a more racially diverse area in the city but still lower middle class. I feel like there is more tension in my area than in the majority Black area of Jax. The historic Black area host lots of art market events open to everyone and there has never been racial tension there. Why did we make it and not commit crime because my parents made wise choices and taught me to work hard and make good decisions. People can be poor and still make wise choices and not commit crimes and live within their means.

@@ceciliaramos2280 Totally 💯 agree no matter what at the end of the day Choice's are ours to choose. Just like some of the serious crimes happening in the younger generation most of them come from the rich money homes/ parents !! Those rich kids in college .. Mercy they did not learn or got educated at all !! Just pay their way to the top.. as different from a student coming from real life struggles of poverty they learn educate themselves to the top...

All by design this really sucks sometimes trying to find the best neighborhood to live not having to worry about racism. There should be luxury upscale housing community in every city and town in America that is majority black with very low crime rate black owned businesses and great schools. But the sad reality is that we will never have that 😢. The damage is done and now the majority of black communities are flooded with drugs and gang violence along with destructive rap music keeping the trend going.

Its also the only city in the south with rich blacks and rich Hispanics. Its not the most segregated not even in the first 10. Louisville, jackson, montgomery, baton rouge, try atlanta. And it gets worst in smaller towns

Don't come to Ocala, there's a difference between righteousness and superiority; there's nothing but drug dealers here and Marion County Sheriff is having a hard time rounding them all up. If you're African American and come to Ocala you'll only perpetuate the problem here. Please stay away and do yourselves a favor, Marion County is over it and there are much better counties.

I’m mixed black and Mexican and Ocala was the first place I moved to in Florida coming from Connecticut and honestly I had no problems everyone is friendly and the area is nice with many job Opportunities for everyone although some parks are filled with poor people and crackheads so if you’re looking to bring your kids to the park choose carefully or go before sunset
