How did figure out what you liked doing in cyber security? I am currently going back to school and trying to figure what I want to do in this career path. I have always been interested in computers but don’t know what is out there.

As usual, you’ve produced an excellent episode with actionable information. I hold IT and cybersecurity certifications and have a portfolio showcasing my proficiency in SIEM tools like Splunk SOAR. However, I’ve been a Buddhist monk for nearly 5 years, and the job market has drastically changed since 2019. Despite my optimism, I know highly accomplished yet unemployed individuals in Silicon Valley. I’ve also encountered professionals with over 10 years of CS experience who struggle to find work. Navigating the cognitive market in the age of AI is challenging, but channels like this are greatly appreciated. 🧠 😎

Definitely the CompTIA Security+. This is the most popular cyber beginenr cert and most well known by HR, it'll cover all the foundational topics, but whil eyou study, I'd also recommend doing cyber projects - (vid linked here!) kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJSafYeXbtZlpKs Hope this helps and best of luck to you!

Thank you so much for your information! 🙏🏼 I was rejected a student loan for a certification and a degree is far too much time for my current situation. I followed UNIX Guy as well 👍🏼 I’m looking forward to using all the free and lower cost education in hopes for a GRC Analyst position by next summer 🤞🏼🤞🏼

thank you sandra, im going to look into the level effect course. Would you still recommend me to get the CompTIA trifecta (A+, Net+ and Sec+) including the Google certs for IT support and Cybersecurity?
@WithSandra
@WithSandra 4 ай бұрын
Hey! I have a vid coming out on this soon 👀 But I'd highly recommend jumping straight into Security+, adding the others will just be a lot more $$$ that I personally don't think is worth it or makes a huge difference when hiring for security analyst roles.. Unless you're planning on starting in IT first, then this could be more relevant, totally up to you as the certs are great, but the $$ is the biggest blocker. The google certs are a great primer for both, and the Google cyber cert gives a discount for the Sec+ that you can use for your exam voucher, so do that first since it also helps prep you for Sec+. hope this helps and best of luck to you! :D

@@WithSandra im pursuing a bachelor's degree in cybersecurity but I want to keep my options open with other certs. I do agree that I have to spend alot of money if I take multiple certs instead of focusing on the ones that are relevant. Thanka for the heads up and looking forward to the next video

hey @withSandra I needed your advice on a career decision. I have done CC by ISC2 and now have got admission into Rogers Cybersecure Catalyst program that trains for GFACT and GSEC certifications through SANS training. But the fee is quite high about $13-18K CAN. Is it a good option to go for this course or is there another path that can generate the same skills and help me set foot into cybersecurity? I am more interested into a non-technical role as I have my bachelors in Aerospace enng and do not have much knowledge of programming and computer skills.

Hi Sandra! Thanks for the video. I don't mean to be a hater at all but I wanted to just say none of these courses have been in job requirements advertised, like ever. I doubt any decent company will care the slightest (or even take the time to research) about these lower tier certifications. Even beginner roles don't have any of these. Companies don't want to teach, they either want an expert or no one at all, atleast currently in 2024, which is still following the market trends of '22 and '23. We're living in an era in tech that despite having even the higher tier qualifications, there's still layoffs and shortages of hires. I highly doubt getting these certificates will open any doors. Might as well just do more CTFs and projects instead. Just my honest thoughts.

Always appreciate other perspectives so ty for sharing! :D These courses get you the skills needed for the job, but they won't take the place of a cert like the Security+, when you're just starting out, the two biggest things are proving you have the credentials (popular cert) + technical skillset (courses + projects). Some people can jump straight into projects but for lots of beginners, they need something more planned out for them and thats where courses with hands on labs come into play, also great to talk about during your technical interviews or to just add on your resume as a stand alone project. Again, rly appreciate your thoughts but these are just my reasonings behind the courses, ty for your comment! :)

If you mean the Level effect courses, these are pay what you can and you can still make an acc if you enter $0, the free courses are that one, NIST, Tryhackme, and CISA, not every course on this list is a free course. Hope this helps clarify

Guaranteed beautiful course I think, SIEM? I think that's sounds not of Zion type, are you referring to Shaam, he is a male y'know, 9 numerical is about female siyam in Tagalog wherein 9 is a continuous counting and if you add 1 you simply can't make that 10, it will always go back to binary 1. Persian wisdom? My first crush I cannot forget until there's new crush ( joke ) seriously how you create a cybersecurity in a continuous numerical counting with decoding or deciphering attempt by light photon beams flash projection to read? Would the shortcut method work of answer me yes or no and if a lady said I'm not sure then thats the time of a hirit and kulit factor. Would a photon beam colour identification sensor analyze and change colour appearance of continuous abstract colour change to confuse the PRISM decoding analysis a shortcut method for abstract painting colours designed to paint in a canvass of pixels in space your pretty face ( joke )
