Have a Gunner Kennel? What are your favorite features?

That my Vizsla chewed through the plastic door and injured itself within the first week. Wish Gunner made a metal plate liner for their door like some other kennels.

great video. i think my #1 feature is the temperature difference. 15-45 degrees warmer inside than outside for cold weather and all the ventilation and windows for hotter weather, a fan option if you want, not to mention on a hot day the gunner kennel with the pad was 15-50 degrees cooler than other popular kennels!

What pad are you referring too?

Very good video, and very informative. I think one additional point you can add, which may not be obvious. I have 2 German Shepherds and use the 500 series Vari-Kennels. The dimensions are 31 tall, 36 long and 26 inches wide. The problem is that the internal size is 24 inches, but because of the plastic lip to screw the little screws in, that additional plastic is an extra 2 inches of width, per kennel, and if you are trying to fit two kennels side-by-side, you don't need 48 inches but 52. That is not the size of most minivans or SUV. So having 2 side-by-side with total 48 and not 52, because the plastic lip is not in the way is a big deal. I now have to put a custom cut piece of plywood underneath one, to raise it up slightly, so that the plastic lip of one slides over the plastic lip of the other, to allow them to fit and once you do that, the door jams on the one you've raised off the floor because it uses the "rigidity' of the side, for the plastic lock and spring mechanism to operated correctly. It makes it very hard to open the door of one kennel versus the other.

What size Gunner Kennel did you go with for the shepherds? I have a GSD and wondering if the intermediate size will work as that’s the largest one that’ll fit in the wife’s new Traverse.

I have 2 Gunner sizes. They're great. The only issue for need is that my Belgian Tervuren gets too warm in there. I have to keep a fan on him. I haven't tried the cooling pad though

Cooling pad is awesome. The fan has its limitations - especially on hot days when it is only moving hot air

The weight is also a positive for this kennel I didn’t like the weight so much at first but it has the wheels so it’s easier to move around then a standard plastic kennel that you needa lift and avoid banging into things while taking it out the house! Also No one is stealing your 60-100lb dog sleeping inside his/her 72lb kennel 😂 id like to see them try ✌🏼

That is a good point. I think it also makes it less likely to roll over in you truck bed.

I like impact dog crates the best, they do the same thing with the doors, easy assembly and it's all metal so it doesn't bend.

It's really a shame they don't have bigger kennels for larger dogs. I don't think a Caucasian Shepherd, a Great Dane or any giant breed would fit in there.
@doubleface40374 жыл бұрын
@@edwardkiefer5984 yes, but in their store there are also smaller sizes of kennels, which are surely not for hunter dogs.
@thebigempty_57924 жыл бұрын
I"ve known several people who own Great Danes....I've yet to see one in a crate. That being said, Gunners largest kennel is 75 or so lbs. A kennel any larger than that using their double wall rotomold method, most people wouldn't be able to manage.
@doubleface40374 жыл бұрын
@@thebigempty_5792 I don't agree. Most people I know would be able to lift 80 or so lbs even without help. The large model has wheels, if they'd put it on a larger model most people won't have problems. Plus, asking for help could be an option. I'm a bit concerned since this is a pretty safe crate and travelling without one or a cheap one in the car would be pretty dangerous. But I understand why they won't make it larger.

Take a look at the Impact Crates. They have the same door latch. I chose that one over this one because my GSD has high anxiety and thrashes to break out. I figured the aluminum would hold up better to damage than plastic. OH and the Gunner Kennel isn't the only one on the market to pass crash safety. The Variocage has gone through extensive crash tests.

+babygrl14 thanks. I will look at the Variocage. Do you know when it was tested and how long they have been on the market?

Only thing im concerned about is that door mesh material. is that door pretty sturdy?

It’s not mesh. It’s made out of the same stuff as the pelican safety cases. Very, very sturdy.

How does this compare with varioc age which had crumple feature as the bars go into each other also extra doors ie in a rear crash you may not have access to the door. You may only be able to get them out from the top. Also the best gunner kennel haven't so far found one in nz for that matter even the variocage isn't around for a small dog. Only one person supplies. As for gunner no one that I can find does them . I currently use the strong metal bar crate .
@DogFocusTraining5 жыл бұрын
+leerag I really like the idea of extra doors. The reason I prefer the Gunner kennel to the metal bar styles is the fact that these insulate them from the cold/heat better. There is an significant temp difference with the Gunner G1 in both the summer (especially with the fan kit) and the winter. I am going to do a video during the summer to show how much of a difference it makes. I am sorry you can’t find a dealer near you. Hopefully as the brand get more well known a dealer will pop up there.

@@DogFocusTraining i prefer a gunner but only managed to find a vario. Gunner would be prohibitive to ship to nz. :-( gunner is my first choice but as i cant get ill get the vario if gunner come here then ill replace vario with it. Im hoping i can insulate it with some kind of wrap around sides or a blacket
