hell yeah. So glad Counting Hours got some love. Can't stop spinning that one. Some you may have missed, overlooked, or just need more love are Chapel of Disease's Echoes of Light, Shallow Waters' All Colours Blur to One, and Syneatr's Never Return. Syneatr isn't TECHNICALLY doom metal but it definitely gives that same vibe. Still great list and I'm definitely checking out one or two on it that I've missed.

Pretty strong year for Doom so far, my faves have been My Dying Bride, Early Moods, My Silent Wake, Thou, and the new Crypt Sermon is a bit of a banger aswell!

Haven't gotten around to as much doom as I wanted to this year so thanks for reminding me of some releases that came out earlier this year to check out. I definitely have to check that Counting Hours out. From what I have heard this year here are my favorites that fit squarely into the doom genre. 1. Coffins - Sinister Oath (death-doom) 2. Castle Rat - Into the Realm (doom metal/heavy metal) 3. Chimeras - Silent Cries in the Stifling Haze (symphonic doom metal) 4. Thou - Umbilical (sludge metal/doom metal/hardcore punk/grunge) 5. Slimelord - Chytridiomycosis Relinquished (death-doom) 6. Gravkvade - Prolog (blackened funeral doom) Also, here are two albums that are absolutely amazing but I don't know if they are doom enough to be included on a doom list 1. Huntsmen - The Dry Land: This album mixes progressive sludge metal, stoner metal, and post-metal and it's glorious. Just not sure if there is enough of a true doom element. 2. Iravu / Mumuksu - Sudra: This is a split from two Malaysian bands, Iravu and Mumuksu. The first song is by Mumuksu and it's raw, noisy, and crusty doom metal, bordering on death-doom, but with only clean singing. The second song is by Iravu and is straight up atmospheric black metal with some elements of ambient. The third and final song is a collab between the two bands. It's got parts that are atmospheric black metal, parts that are death metal, parts that are death-doom, parts that are blackened doom, and parts that are Mumuksu's raw doom. This split is so good!

@@forgemastermetal I think fans of the genre are reluctant to listen to more experimental sounds that deviate from the traditional doom sound and might find this direction off-putting. I absolutely love it, as a critical feature of doom to me is the melancholic and emotional cathartic response the music is supposed to evoke. Many albums by various bands miss the mark on that, by over-focusing on the very restricting formula, whilst this record does it masterfully.

Austere - Beneath the threshold. half sounds more like Rapture than Counting Hours does (I like counting hours), the other half sounds like classic Katatonia. Isenordal - Requiem for Eirênê is the best romantic doom album of the year by a LOOONGSHOT. Do not sleep on this one. Ad Nihilum - An Escape for the guilty. Best debut Syndexioi - Devouring Slumber. This is *lush* as fuck, even though the recording sounds distant, the keys are gorgeous and the whole album is hypnotic.
