You can get very similar charging times with the mobile charger and the NEMA 14-50 adaptor. It charges my Tesla in 2 hours from 50%. Why spend more when you can grab the 14-50 adaptor for $60 CAD. The only caveat is ensuring you have the correct outlet.

WARNING: Mobile chargers connected to a 14-50 receptacle are prone to melting, SEE Sandy Munroe's (Munroe Live) segment on this very real danger. Most 14-50 receptacles are NOT rated for 100% duty cycle. It's all about the material the receptacle is made out of. Big Box stores do NOT carry the proper brand.

For anyone legitimately considering an ev, remember your car is at home for at least 8 hours while you sleep, probably closer to 10 or 12, so believe me, YOU DONT NEED A 60A Circuit. The mobile connector is a 40A L2 & it’s extremely close to that 60A and is also probably vast overkill. Assuming it makes the installation of the wiring significantly cheaper, I’d recommend getting a 30a circuit with a nema 14-30 connector, add in the $45 adapter and that will add plenty of range back for most people. With the model Y, that would be 168 miles over 8 hours (21mph charge rate) considering the average commute for Americans is less than 60 miles a day I’d call it overkill.

That's what I'm using. 14 30 that was in the house for the dryer. My dryer is natural gas so no other use for the plug.

No need to get a wall charger. I got 240 outlet installed and use the adapter for my mobile charger and my model X charges to 100% over night. Saved so much money with this route.

I use my wall charger exclusively at home and my mobile charger stays in my sub-trunk for emergencies. I haven’t had to use the mobile charger away from home, so the wall charger was the better purchase.

I’ve actually pondered buying a mobile charger for the one-off day I’m staying overnight somewhere or whatever. I’m on the fence, but I think that answers it… good info sir!

No one has more home and Mobil chargers than me. All I recommend is UL approved and a "Stop Charge" feature on the charger itself. Good luck finding either.

Thanks for your input here. I know we call these mobile chargers "chargers", but they aren't really chargers at all. They're technically an EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment). They just pass current from your grid to the vehicle. The actual "charger" is built into the car. So any kind of stop charge feature is built into the car's software. UL certification is always a good sign that you're buying a quality device. They must pass rigorous standards of OSHA to get that UL cert. Good advice, thanks!

Why buy a wall charger. Get a 220 outlet installed in the garage. I use the mobile charger to plug in and in less than 7 hours it fully charges from 10%

Hard wired is the SAFEST set-up and not that hard to do. #6 gage individual wires in conduit with 60 AMP Breaker, NO ROMEX crap.

True, but it's not for everyone. It would cost my daughter $15K to install a 240V charger because the panel is max out, and they have to dig for a new line.

level 1 no permit needed. Level2 or 240v out let installation need permit and inspection. too much hassle. you pay up to 2.5k at front. this is suck. that 2.5k for super charge is better.

Depends on your local laws. No permit needed for mine here and only cost $350 to install 240v line. Seemed like a good deal to me.

Remember that the BMS while running and charging takes eats up 250W all the time. So when only charging 2000W a minimum of 12,5% are losses. When you’re going Tesla Wall Connector that 250W of 11000W are only 2,2% in losses. You American folks should consider the 40 bucks NEMA 14-50 Adaptor for you mobile Connection and get a nice 7.6 kw. Only 3 % losses, no installation hassle if NEMA 14-50 is already there and the charging solution remains mobile in case you move or something.

It amazes me that people will not only pay but overpay to bend over and take it up the rear just to be on a bandwagon. Tesla drops the prices in China because they aren't selling, but no worries, they just raise the prices here to compensate...and people pay it lol. 14 grand for "Full Self Drive" which is actually only stage 2 self-driving, not only behind and inferior to Mercedes and Porsche, but 2 stages away from actual full self-driving. ONLY 2 and a half hours to charge the car 35%, so you can save basically zero dollars and polite the environment more than a hybrid Toyota. When did self-respect become uncool?
