You should know that it is not for emissions, it is because the exhaust is to large at lower rpm and the exhaust gas does not have enough velocity to leave the exhaust so i backs up and you will loose power in your low to mid range without it but probably gain some in your top end. TLDR without is a crappy dyno chart graph but higher peak.

Hello, Yammie Noob! I am a "New Rider", but only in spirit, as I unfortunately do not have a functional motorcycle. I do however have an old 1994 Honda XR250L sitting in the garage due to my dad's neglect. I have sworn to myself that I will fix it to tolerable levels, and learn to ride on it. Sure, it's not a good choice, but hey.. It's a dual-sport with only 2k miles, but it's been sitting for just over five years, but saying as I do not have the funds to buy a proper two-wheeled death trap, I'm about out of options at this given time. I have the same slip on for my R1. Might get the midpipe too at some point so I am excited to see how easy it is to tune. That is what made me hold off on getting more than the slip on because I didn't know how to go about fixing the tune. I might like the looks of some of the other exhausts better but seems to be pretty good quality with the Leo and the price is excellent compared to other systems. The Leo slip on in black was only like 240 where other cans were north off 700 just for the slip on.

Exhaust systems on newer bikes are finely tuned for the best use of pressure waves with flapper valves, sometimes multiple valves. This is in sharp contrast to exhausts in the past where large gains in horsepower could be had with aftermarket systems. It is very hard for aftermarket systems to find any significant new horsepower. The flapper valves help flatten torque curves, help midrange, reduce pollution, and noise. More pro’s than con’s. With new bikes you are primarily going for aesthetics, more noise, and weight lost. I would keep the flapper unless just track bike.

Hard to beat the sound of any 4 cylinder under hard acceleration, but somehow I still like the sound of the Triumph triple you just gave away better. It feels strange saying that since I'm not particularly a huge Triumph fan. :)

The R1's 4 cylinder sounds like no other 4 cylinder. It's got a cross plane crank, which gives it a completely different firing order and actually sounds closer to a V Twin than a 4 cylinder. So there is no comparison to be made with other inline or V design 4 cylinders. I'm actually a Triumph speed Triple fan. Those 3 cylinder motors sound closer to the R1 than 4 cylinders do.

The butterfly in the exhaust is for the normal rider. Someone who rides their bike around town and not just full rip all the time. The purpose is to improve lower rpm torque by increasing back pressure.

Quick question.. will most slip-on exhaust systems for an R1 sound that much different than stock if you don't remove the catalytic converter? I just put on a Akrapovic Titanium Exhaust on a 2023 R1 and I can't really notice that much of a difference in sound.

Arata by Racetec, can also be seen used in MotoAmerica now. Arrow with the longer end can also compliments the R1 more for me. The shorter cans tend to make it sound obnoxious and ruin the engine and exhaust tone. Must sound like a orchestra in harmony.

I put an Austin Racing exhaust on my MT-10. (It shares the CP4 engine the R1 has with some different internals). Getting rid of the cat on these engines really brings them to life. People have their brands that they prefer and thats fine. Just lose the cat! Whoever gets this bike is going to have a blast. Good job to the yam team.
