Both are great reels. BG holds up better in the SW though. I have a whole slew of them, use em from everything from croaker and flounder, to stripers and blues inshore and even mahi and skipjack in the ocean.

I’m a Shimano guy, seriously looking at the Nasci for inshore/ flats use. I have Shimano Sienna’s, Sedonas (Fi and FJ) and they have performed fanastic for me on Red Fish. I’ve never dumped them in the surf though, which is why the Nasci is on my radar.

Nasci hands down. My daughter sank hers 2 times and all I have done is rinsed off and that's it. Still smooth as butter , no rust and no corrosion Had the bg 2500 and 3000 sank the 3000 1 time and rinsed off and cleaned and it rusted / corroded from the inside out Plus the bg is super heavy vs the Nasci. I wouldn't even recommend the bg to guides. For guides I recommend the Penn Battle 3 hands down over the bg

@@shaunhenderson2071 that's honestly the reel I'd use if I wasn't spoiled by my higher end stuff. My nephew is 19 and beats the crap out of his battle 3 dx both 2500 and 3000 and it still keeps on going. Only thing I don't like about Penn is how you can feel the gears working as your reeling.

Honestly the BG is the best bang for the buck reel I’ve ever used. The Nasci is at a odd price point IMHO. For 30 more you could get a spheros inshore or for 20 less you could get the new Sahara , which is basically the old nasci.

I recently purchased a 5000 Nasci and have noticed that it is very hard to crank under load of large (over slot) redfish. It also makes all kinds of popping and cracking noises when fighting large fish. Has anyone else had this problem? I am wondering if I have a faulty product. Penn battle 3 should be in that line up. If I was saltwater fishing, the Diawa BG. If inshore or freshwater, then shimano. The Nasci had felt drag washers, the shimano has carbon fiber drag washers. My choice would be Diawa BG between the two. I have the Nasci but for fresh water. Nice reel. Might upgrade the drag washers to carbon.

@@aaronhiggs dead on. That's what I do. Felt washers are not bad , but if you happen to hook a good fish and one falls apart it will lock up your drag badly and you'll lose the fish. I've had it happen snook fishing thankfully when the washer went bad it was at the end of the fight. Carbonfiber is all I've been using now for at least 4 years Id say
