If I had to critique the story... And I am stopped about ten minutes in... It is that the story is the exact reason why it doesn't happen. A public broadcast that amounts to humanity vs everyone is just a bad idea. It's like a melodramatic videogame script that justifies why you are suddenly behind enemy lines and everyone is hostile. As if every alien was tuned in to the human broadcast and decided to respond to it by becoming hostile. The guards in the roadway couldn't have possibly seen the broadcast. Just walk to the darn ship and don't act like you have a reason to be shot for doing so. A more realistic scenario is one where the mercenary, here, is looking to set up pirate raids to disrupt various xenos and cache supplies in advance of military actions. Or, rather, the military will put an end to piracy and confiscate the supplies so conveniently available after the pirates are gone. Perhaps I am digging too deep into these stories and am starting to hit the highschool stuff. I get it that the point is to have fun - it's just one of those things where it pulls me out of suspense of disbelief and I have to feel like I am imparting some advice or wisdom onto someone.

Three humans that were outgunned and outmanned managed to take down a number of class 14 deathworlders with less than ideal weaponry, saving a dozen other humans. Shot down a station defence ship with two 900 ton projectiles going one percent the speed of light, with point defence systems shot down 4 internal AI guided missiles and launched a couple of nukes to shit on any pursuit. All wishing I’m guessing five minutes, seems pretty HFY to me. We certainly love our underdog stories and I heard there are 8 chapters, where I’m guessing they’d be able to properly pick their fights and win by the skin of their teeth screaming “victory or Valhalla!”
